Common Entrance Examination for Design 2020 for M.Des and Ph.D. Programmes

The objective of the Common Entrance Exam for Design (CEED) is to assess the candidate’s aptitude for design involving visual perception ability, drawing skills, logical reasoning, creativity, communication, and problem solving skills. CEED is conducted by IIT Bombay. It is a qualifying examination for admission to Master of Design (MDes) programmes at IISc Bangalore, IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Kanpur and IIITDM Jabalpur, and to Ph.D programmes in Design at IISc Bangalore, IIT Bombay, IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad, and IIT Kanpur. Qualifying in CEED alone does not guarantee admission to any of these programmes. Admitting institutes may conduct further tests and / or interviews for the final selection / admission.

A CEED score does NOT Guarantee admission.

Admitting Institutes will also verify the eligibility, the category certificates and other documents along with the CEED score. The CEED 2020 score is valid for a period of one year from the date of declaration of the result.

CEED 2020 will be conducted on Saturday, January 18, 2020 from 10:00 - 13:00 hours. The examination will consist of two parts, Part A and Part B. Candidates must attempt questions from both the parts. Part A will be conducted from 10:00 to 11:00 hours followed by Part B from 11:00 to 13:00 hours.

CEED 2020 examination will be conducted in the following cities: Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Delhi, Ernakulam, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Kozhikode, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Panaji, Patna, Pune, Raipur, Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur and Visakhapatnam.

Candidates should compulsorily choose 3 cities in the order of preference at the time of online registration. Once the registration form is submitted, request for a change of city will NOT be entertained under any circumstances.

Eligibility:

Candidates must have completed a degree / diploma / post graduate degree programme of minimum 3 years (after 10+2 level), or must be appearing for the final examination of such a program by July 2020, or must have passed the GD Arts diploma programme (10+5 level) by July 2020.

Eligibility criteria for admission to various institutes may differ from the eligibility criteria for appearing for CEED. Before applying for CEED, candidates are advised to check whether they meet the required eligibility criteria for admission to various institutes. There is no age limit to appear for CEED. Besides, a candidate can appear for CEED any number of times.

How to Apply:

Registration:

CEED registration form must be submitted ONLINE ONLY through the official website.

Registration fee:

      Rs. 1,300 for all women candidates

      Rs. 1,300 for (SC / ST / PwD) candidates

      Rs. 2,600 for all other candidates

Note that this fee is non-refundable and non-transferable. The registration fee has to be paid through the payment option provided on the website while submitting the registration form. Detailed instructions related to the payment of registration fee are given on the online registration portal. Credit card, debit card and net-banking options are available. The registration fee shown above DOES NOT INCLUDE service and other charges and the processing fees that the banks may levy.

The normal registration fee shown above is applicable till the regular closing date of November 9, 2019, 23:55 hours. A late fee of Rs. 500 is applicable to ALL candidates for registrations submitted after the regular closing date till November 16, 2019, 23:55 hours.

Undergraduate Common Entrance Exam for Design & Joint Seat Allocation for B.Des.

Admissions to the Bachelor of Design (B.Des) programmes at IIT Bombay, IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad and IIITDM Jabalpur are done through the Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED). Students who have passed Class XII (or equivalent) in 2019, or appearing in 2020, in ANY STREAM (Science, Commerce, or Arts & Humanities) are eligible to appear for UCEED 2020.

Part 1 of this brochure provides information related to UCEED 2020, and Part 2 provides information related to the subsequent joint seat allocation for B. Des. admissions in the four Participating Institutes for the Academic Year 2020–2021.

UCEED 2020 will be held in the following 24 cities in India: Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Delhi, Ernakulum, Panaji, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Lucknow, Kolkata, Kozhikode, Mumbai, Nagpur, Patna, Pune, Raipur, Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur and Visakhapatnam. Eligibility:

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR APPEARING IN UCEED 2020:

A candidate, including a foreign national, must fulfil each and every one of the following three criteria to appear in UCEED 2020.

Criterion 1 – Age limit:

The candidate should have been born on or after October 1, 1995 if belonging to the OPEN/EWS/OBC-NCL category and on or after October 1, 1990 if belonging to the SC, ST or PwD category.

Criterion 2 – Number of attempts:

A candidate can attempt UCEED for a maximum of two times and that too in consecutive years. Note that UCEED score is valid for one year, and only for admissions in the corresponding academic year.

Criterion 3 – Qualifying examination:

The candidate should have passed the qualifying examination (Class XII or equivalent) in 2019, OR appearing in 2020. Students from ALL STREAMS (Science, Commerce, and Arts & Humanities) are eligible.

Those who appeared for the first time in their qualifying examination in 2018 or earlier are NOT eligible.

QUALIFYING EXAMINATION

·         The final examination of the 10+2 system, conducted by a Central or State Board recognized by the Association of Indian Universities (www.aiuweb.org).

·         Intermediate or two-year Pre-University examination conducted by a Board or University recognized by the Association of Indian Universities.

·         Final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy.

·         Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling with a minimum of five subjects.

·         Any Public School, Board or University examination in India or in a foreign country recognized as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

·         H.S.C. vocational examination.

·         A Diploma recognized by the All India Council for Technical Education (www.aicteindia.org) or a State Board of Technical Education of at least 3 years duration.

·         General Certificate Education (GCE) examination (London, Cambridge or Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level.

·         High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva.

·         Candidates who have completed Class XII (or equivalent) examination outside India or from a Board not specified above should produce a certificate from the Association of Indian Universities to the effect that the examination they have passed is equivalent to the Class XII examination.

·         In case the Class XII examination is not a public examination, the candidate must have passed at least one public (Board or Pre-University) examination earlier.

How to Apply:

REGISTRATION FOR UCEED 2020:

·         Candidates should register for appearing in UCEED 2020. Application can be done ONLY online through the registration portal linked from website.

·         Candidates should satisfy ALL THE THREE eligibility criteria [Refer ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR APPEARING IN UCEED 2020].

·         Registration will be cancelled if, at a later date, it is found that the candidate does not meet any of the three eligibility criteria.

·         Registration fee is NEITHER refundable NOR transferable.

·         It will entirely be the responsibility of the candidate to provide the correct information regarding the qualifying exam and category, and upload the correct documents in the required formats in the registration form. Registration forms, incomplete in any way, will be summarily rejected and the registration will be considered invalid. The admitting institutes have the right to cancel, at any stage, the admission of a candidate in accordance with the rules and regulations in force, if it is found that any information provided by the candidate is incorrect or the registration is incomplete.

CEED is a qualifying examination for the following postgraduate programmes in design:

(a) Master of Design Programmes

IISc Bangalore: MDes in Product Design and Engineering*

IIT Bombay: MDes in Industrial Design, Visual Communication, Animation, Interaction Design, Mobility and Vehicle Design.

IIT Delhi: MDes in Industrial Design

IIT Guwahati: MDes in Design

IIT Kanpur: MDes in Industrial Design*

*GATE qualified candidates will also be considered for admission to these programmes.

(b) PhD Programmes in Design (IISc Bangalore, IIT Bombay)

Eligibility for CEED 2014:

Bachelor's degree in Engineering / Architecture / Design/ Interior Design or equivalent (4 years duration after 10+2)

Professional Diploma in Design (NID/CEPT or equivalent of 4 years duration after 10+2)

BFA (4 year professional programme, after 10+2)

GD Art (5 year programme after 10th) with one year post qualification, professional experience

Master’s degree in Arts / Science / Computer Applications (2 year programme after 10+2+3)

NOTE:

Candidates with 3 years Bachelors degree are not eligible.

The candidate is responsible for showing eligibility while seeking admission to the specific programme in which they are interested.

There is no age limit and a candidate can appear for CEED any number of times.

How to Apply:

The non-refundable application fee is Rs 2000 for men of general and OBC category, and Rs 1000 for SC/ST category, physically disabled (PD), and all women candidates.

Candidates who claim to be in SC/ST/OBC category have to produce valid certificates issued by appropriate authorities.

Instructions for Filling the ONLINE Application Form:

The applicant has to upload their photograph, signature and other documents.

Paper copies of the form or any other documents must NOT be submitted CEED 2014 Online Application Interface requires that copies of your photograph and signature be uploaded as electronic files.

Please upload good quality photographs.

Poor quality of photographs submitted will lead to rejection of your CEED application, without any refund of the application fees.

The CEED Score Card will include the photograph you submit and also a photograph that will be taken at the time of the exam.

After submission of the application, request for change of examination city will be accepted till September 20, 2013 with a fee of Rs 400/- to be paid in the form of demand draft in favor of 'IIT Bombay'.
