IIST is Asia’s first Space Institute and the first in the world to offer the complete range of undergraduate, post graduate, doctoral programmes with specific focus to space science, technology and applications.

This unique concept took root in January 2007, when IIST was registered as a Society under the Travancore -Cochin Literary, Scientific and Charitable Societies Registration Act, 1955. IIST received the approval of  the Union Cabinet on 26 April, 2007 and it was formally inaugurated on 14 September 2007 by Dr. G. Madhavan Nair. In a little less than a year of its establishment, IIST received the recognition of UGC as a ‘Deemed to be University’ under Section 3 of UGC Act, 1956.The Institute has the unique mandate of encouraging and equipping brilliant youngsters from all parts of the country to take up a career as Scientist/Engineer in the Indian Space Research Organisation. IIST functions as a autonomous body under the Department of Space, Government of India.

Dual Degree (BTech and MS/MTech) Programme Admission 2018

Eligibility:

Applicants should make sure that they satisfy the criteria given below for applying for admission to B. Tech and the Dual degree program in IIST 

Citizenship: Only Indian citizens are eligible to apply for admission in IIST 

Date of Birth: Candidates belonging to General category (GEN) and Other Backward Classes (OBC) categories must have been born on or after October 1, 1993. Candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Persons with Disabilities (PD) categories must have born on or after October 1, 1988 

Qualifying Exam (10+2 or Equivalent): 
Candidates seeking admission to IIST should have passed their Qualifying Examination, with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as subjects of the curriculum Candidates belonging to GEN & OBC categories must secure an aggregate of at least 75% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) in the qualifying exam and those belonging to SC/ST/PD should have an aggregate of at least 65% marks in PCM subjects in the qualifying examination 

The Qualifying Exam should be any of the following: 
(a) The final exam of the 10+2 system, conducted by any recognized Central/State Board, such as CBSE, New Delhi; Council for Indian School Certificate Exam (ISCE),New Delhi, etc. 

(b) Intermediate or two-year Pre-University examination conducted by a recognized Board/University 

(c) Final Exam of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy 

(d) Vocational Higher Secondary Exam 

(e) Sr. Sec School Exam conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling with a minimum of five subjects 

(f) Any Public School/Board/University Exam in India or in any foreign country recognized as equivalent to the 10+2 system by AIU 

(g) General Certificate Education (GCE) Exam (London/Cambridge /Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level 

JEE (Main) and JEE (Advanced) - 2018 Exams: 

Candidates should appear in the Joint Entrance Examination (Main)-2018 to qualify themselves to appear for Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced)-2018 conducted by IITs and secure the minimum prescribed category-wise marks as given into below 

(a) General (GEN) Candidates: At least 20 marks in aggregate and at least 5% marks in each of the three subjects (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) 

(b) Other Backward Community-Non-Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL) Candidates: At least 18% marks in aggregate and at least 4.5% marks in each of the three subjects (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) 

(c) SC/ST and Persons with Disabilities (PD) Candidates: At least 10% marks in aggregate and at least 2.5% marks in each of the three subjects (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics)

Reservation of Seats 
Candidates belonging to certain categories are admitted to seats reserved based on relaxed criteria as per applicable rules of the Govt. of India. The categories included are: 

(i) Scheduled Castes (SC) -15% 

(ii) Scheduled Tribes (ST) -7.5% 

(iii) Other Backward Castes (OBC) belonging to Non-Creamy Layer (NCL) -27% 

(iv) Persons with Disabilities (PD) -3% (Horizontal Reservation)

For online registration of the application, the candidate should have access to a computer, a laser printer and Internet connection

As performance, based financial assistance is provided by DOS to the students of IIST, ISRO/DOS will have the first right to absorb them, subject to the human resource requirements of ISRO/DOS. For more details, on absorption in ISRO/DOS, visit www.iist.ac.in/admission/undergraduate 

IIST Admission Rank list will be generated only for those candidates who register online for admission to IIST and satisfy all the eligibility criteria 

Please note that IIST Admission Rank list will be prepared based on their JEE (Advanced)-2017 All-India Rank (including category rank). The IIST admission web portal for online registration will be open from 22nd May, up to 05th June 2018

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

Course Description:

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) [Streams in: i. Aerospace Engineering (PAE01), ii. Avionics (PAV01), iii. Mathematics (PMA01), iv. Physics (PPH01)] Admission 2018

Eligibility:

Eligibility and Selection Procedure for Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology, IIST, Thiruvananthapuram

Master’s Degree in Engineering/Technology: Applicants with Master’s Degree in Engineering/Technology must have secured first class or equivalent in the Master’s degree. They must have pursued their Master’s degree on the basis of qualified GATE score. Applicants with MS in Engineering or equivalent from leading foreign Universities with outstanding academic record can be considered without GATE score 

Applicants with Integrated Masters degree (or Dual Degree) in Engineering/Technology from IITs and IISc with minimum CGPA 9.0/10 can also be considered without GATE score 

Applicants, who qualified UGC/CSIR/NET-JRF/other similar fellowships, with eligible degrees are allowed to apply even without GATE score 

Master’s Degree in Science/Humanities: Applicants must have Master’s Degree in the relevant area with first class or equivalent in their Master’s degree. They must have qualified UGC/CSIR NET-JRF/JEST (or) GATE in the relevant disciplines. Applicants applying with their JEST score should have secured a rank within the first 300 

Age Limit 

Applicant should be below 35 years as on 16th December 2017; age relaxation is applicable as per Government Rules 

Nationality: Applicant should be an Indian citizen 

Research Fellowship 

Research Fellowship for GATE and UGC/CSIR NET-JRF/JEST qualified students is Rs.25000/ - per month. (Research Scholars selected with UGC/CSIR NET-JRF shall draw fellowship from the concerned organizations) 

For all research scholars with external fellowship, the concerned rules and regulations apply; the fellowship will be enhanced based on a performance review after two years of Research 

The scholars will be required to assist the Departments in tutorials, practical training in labs or similar academic activities normally limited to 6 hours per week 

Selection Procedure 

Applications will be received until 16th December 2017 only through online; from the eligible applicants, a short-listing will be done, taking into account their applicable GATE/NET scores. Therefore, applicants are advised to enter: 

i. GATE score through which Master’s Degree has been pursued; 

ii. Best GATE score if the applicant possesses more than one GATE score 

Candidates having fellowship from the Govt. of India funding agencies such as DST, CSIR, MeiTY, INAE, NBHM, UGC etc may also apply for PhD admission in various departments in IIST. Final decision on the eligibility of such fellowships will be taken by IIST

Application Procedure 

Applications shall be submitted online at the IIST website http://admission.iist.ac.in 

Applications received online only will be considered. The applicants will not be allowed to make any changes in the profile registration once submitted. Hence utmost care should be taken by the applicants while filling the profile 

Application fee is to the extent of Rs.600/- per Dept. (for SC/ST/PD and Women applicants - Rs.300/- per Department). If the applicant is eligible and wishes to apply for more than one Research Area in the same Dept., he/she need not have to pay any additional application fee. The application fee shall be paid after one day of registration through “SBI Collect” only 

However, such applicant who wishes to apply for more than one Research Area within the same Dept. need to indicate his/her choice of Research Areas in the order of his/her preference. The application fee is non-refundable 

Closing Date:

Starting of filling up of online applications form: 01st December 2017

Last date for remittance of application fee: 18th December 2017 

Display of shortlisted candidates for Test/Interview: 19th December 2017
