About College:

Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, the sixth member of the IIT fraternity, was established in 1994. The academic programme of IIT Guwahati commenced in 1995. At present the Institute has eleven departments and three inter-disciplinary academic centres covering all the major engineering, science and humanities disciplines, offering BTech, BDes, MA, MDes, MTech, MSc and PhD programmes. Within a short period of time, IIT Guwahati has been able to build up world class infrastructure for carrying out advanced research and has been equipped with state-of-the-art scientific and engineering instruments. Ph.D. in Engineering

Eligibility

For admission to the PhD Programme in Engineering departments, a candidate must satisfy one of the following criteria:

1.    Master's degree in Engineering/Technology/Medical Sciences/Veterinary Sciences/Pharmacy in a relevant area with a minimum Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) of either 6.0 or 60% of marks.

2.    Four-year Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology/Medical Sciences or equivalent in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of either 7.0 or 70% of marks.

Or the candidate must satisfy the relevant specific criteria given below.

3.    A candidate having a Four-year Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology or equivalent in a relevant area, with a Postgraduate Degree in Management Science(Finance) or MBA with Finance specialization or equivalent, is also considered for admission in the area of specialization `Construction Management, of the Department of Civil Engineering. The candidate should have a minimum of either 6.0 CPI or 60% marks in Bachelor's level and either 6.0 CPI or 60% marks in the postgraduate degree.

4.    A candidate having MSc degree with Mathematics as a subject at bachelor's level is also considered for admission in the Department of Civil Engineering. The candidate should have a minimum of either 7.0 CPI or 70% marks in Master's level with consistent first class at other levels.

5.    A candidate having a Two-year Master's degree (after completion of 4-year Bachelor's degree) or three-year Master's degree (after completion of 3-year Bachelor's degree) in Engineering/ Technology/Science in a relevant area with minimum Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) of either 6.0 or 60% of marks is also considered for admission in to PhDProgramme in Biosciences and Bioengineering.

6.    A candidate with a Two-year MSc degree (after completion of 3-year Bachelor's degree) in a relevant area with minimum CPI of either 7.0 or 70% marks, is also considered for admission in to PhD Programme in Biosciences and Bioengineering.

7.    Postgraduates in Computer Science (ALCCS) from Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE), with a minimum Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) of either 6.0 or 60% of marks, are also eligible to apply for admission in to PhD programme in Computer Science and Engineering

8.    A regular student of IIT Guwahati who is continuing his/her MTech studies and having a minimum CPI of 8.0 at the end of second semester may be enrolled in the PhD programme of the Department in the beginning of his/her third semester of study. Such students can receive only PhD Degree.

9.    A student of IIT Guwahati who is continuing his/her BTech studies and having a minimum CPI of 7.0 at the end of sixth semester may be enrolled in the PhD programme of the Department in the beginning of his/her seventh semester of study. Such students can receive dual BTech and PhD Degree. Both the degrees will be awarded after completion of PhD degree.

Relaxation for SC/ST/PwD Candidates: Eligibility criteria will be relaxed by 5% marks or 0.5 CPI for SC/ST/PwD applicants.

Eligibility:

For admission to the PhD Programme in Design, a candidate must satisfy one of the following criteria:

1.    Candidates having MArch/ MDes degree or MTech/ ME degree in a relevant area, with a minimum CPI of either 6.0 or 60% of marks.

2.    Master's degree in Applied Arts/ Ergonomics/ Fine Arts/ Psychology/ Physiology/ Occupational Safety and Health/ Journalism/ Mass Media Communication with a minimum CPI of either 6.0 or 60% marks.

3.    Two-year Master's degree in Management (MBA or equivalent) with a minimum CPI of either 6.0 or 60% marks with relevant studies in Design field, and Bachelor's degree in any discipline.

4.    Four-year Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Design or Engineering/Technology or Five-year BArch degree or equivalent in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of either 7.0 or 70% of marks.

5.    Four-year Undergraduate Diploma in Design (NID or equivalent), with postgraduate qualification in relevant area with a minimum CPI of either 6.0 or 60% marks.

6.    A two-year Post-graduate Diploma in Design and relevant areas (NID/CEPT or equivalent) with first class at Bachelor's level.

7.    BFA (4-year professional programme, after 10+2)/ GD Art (5-year programme after 10th standard) with one-year professional experience, with a minimum CPI of either 7.0 or 70% of marks.

8.    Master of Computer Application(MCA) degree, with one year of professional experience, with a minimum CPI of either 6.0 or 60% of marks.

9.    A regular student of IIT Guwahati who is continuing his/her MDes studies and having a minimum CPI of 8.0 at the end of second semester may be enrolled in the PhD programme of the Department in the beginning of his/her third semester of study. Such students can receive only PhD Degree.

10.  A student of IIT Guwahati who is continuing his/her BDes studies and having a minimum CPI of 7.0 at the end of sixth semester may be enrolled in the PhD programme of the Department in the beginning of his/her seventh semester of study. 3.    Master of Arts in Linguistics/any language with specialization in Linguistics/Language Studies or equivalent, with a minimum CPI of either 5.5 or 55% of marks.

For admission to the PhD Programme in the Center for Rural Technology, a candidate must satisfy one of the following criteria:

1.    Master's degree in Engineering/ Technology/ Environmental Science/Agriculture and other relevant fields with a minimum Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) of either 6.0 or 60% of marks.

2.    Master of Science with a minimum CPI of either 6.0 or 60% of marks.

3.    Four-year Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology/Agriculture or equivalent in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of either 7.0 or 70% of marks.

Relaxation for SC/ST/PwD Candidates: Eligibility criteria will be relaxed by 5% marks or 0.5 CPI for SC/ST/PwD applicants.

Note:
Requirements for Institute Assistantship/ External Fellowship (Only for Regular & Full Time Category Candidates)

The Institute Assistantships/ External Fellowships are available only for Indian Nationals who are admitted under Regular & Full Time Category into PhD programmes.

The present rates of Institute assistantships are: JRF: Rs.25,000/- per month for first two years of PhD programme and SRF: Rs.28,000/- per month for next three years of PhD programme (that is, assistantship is only for a maximum of 60 months from the date of admission into PhD programme).

REQUIREMENT OF VALID GATE/ CEED/ NET/ INSPIRE:

All Regular and Full Time Category Candidates must satisfy one of the following criteria in addition to Eligibility Criteria related to Qualifying Degree.

1.    B.E./ B.Tech./ B.Des. or equivalent with valid and qualifying GATE score (valid and qualifying CEED score for PhD in Design) above the prescribed cut-off level.

2.    M.Sc. or equivalent with valid and qualifying GATE score above the prescribed cut-off level.

3.    M.Sc. or equivalent with valid NET-JRF qualification.

4.    M.A. in Humanities and Social Sciences Subjects or equivalent with valid NET qualification.

5.    Qualified in any other National Level Examination for Research Fellowship for pursuing PhD and it should be valid for another 3 to 6 months from the Date of admission to PhD programme.

EXEMPTION FROM THE REQUIREMENT OF VALID GATE/ CEED/ NET/ INSPIRE:

A Regular and Full Time Category Candidates satisfying one of the following conditions is exempted from the requirement of valid GATE/ CEED/ NET/ INSPIRE, etc.:

1.     Having M.E. / M.Tech./ M.Des. Degree or equivalent

2.     Bachelors (B.Tech./ B.Des.) Degree from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) with a minimum CPI of 8.0

3.     Masters (M.Sc./ M.A.) Degree from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) with a minimum CPI of 8.0

IMPORTANT RULES:

1.    Assistantships/Fellowships from external funding organizations (e.g., CSIR/ UGC/ INSPIRE, etc) will be available as per terms and conditions of the concerned funding organizations.

2.    Students receiving assistantships from the Institute or fellowships from any other funding agencies, are required to perform academic duties as per prevailing norms.

3.    The continuation of the assistantship/ fellowship is subject to satisfactory performance of the assigned duties and satisfactory research progress of the student in the PhD Programme.

Fellow Programme in Management (FPM) [Specialization: Communication, Economics, Finance & Accounting, Information Systems, Marketing Management, Operations Management and Quantitative Techniques, Organizational Behaviour and Human Resource Management, Strategic Management]

Eligibility:

Candidates should have:

First class/ equivalent Bachelor’s degree & first class/ equivalent Master’s degree

(OR)

First Class/ equivalent Five year/ four year Integrated Master’s Degree programme in any discipline

(OR)

Professional qualifications CA, ICWA, CS with at least 55 % marks in professional

(OR)

First Class/ equivalent Bachelor’s degree (4 year/8 semester)

Those in their final year of Master’s or 4 year/8 semester Bachelor’s degree (B.E / B. Tech/ Architecture / M.B.B.S.) in any discipline can also apply. Such a candidate, if selected will be permitted to join the programme provisionally subject to the submission of a certificate, issued on or before June 30, 2019, from the head of the institution stating that he/she has completed all requirements for obtaining the degree.

The percentage of marks obtained by the candidate in the bachelor’s degree would be based on the practice followed by the institution/university from where the candidate has obtained the degree. In case of the candidate being awarded grades/CGPA instead of marks, the equivalence would be based on the equivalence certified by the institution/university from where they have obtained the bachelor’s degree. In case the institution/university does not have any scheme for converting the CGPA into equivalent marks, the equivalence would be established by dividing the obtained CGPA by the maximum possible CGPA and multiplying the result by 100.

The candidate must hold a Bachelor’s Degree of any of the University incorporated by an Act of central or state legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under section 3 of UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India. The Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent qualification obtained by the candidate must entail a minimum of three years of education after completing higher secondary schooling (10+2) or equivalent.

Selection Process for FPM 2019

The candidates will be selected on the basis of overall performance in Research Aptitude Test (RAT) and Personal Interview (PI). The selection process is as follows:

Stage 1: The candidates satisfying the academic eligibility criteria as mentioned above should submit their application online.

Stage 2: Based on the applications received, candidates satisfying Academic eligibility criteria will be called for the Research Aptitude Test (RAT), to be conducted at IIM Indore or any other designated centres during March/ April 2019.

Stage 3: After the Research Aptitude Test (RAT) candidates will be shortlisted for the Personal Interview (candidates will be shortlisted in the ratio of 1:8 for the approved intake across the categories) the shortlisting of the candidates will be done considering only those candidates having positive raw scores and minimum marks in RAT (Minimum marks will be decided by the Admissions Committee).

Stage 4: Shortlisted candidates shall appear for the Personal Interview (PI) at IIM Indore (during April 2019). IIM Indore also expects a consistent and minimum performance in the different parameters of Personal Interview (PI), which will be decided by Admissions Committee. Candidates not meeting the minimum performance in any of PI parameters will not be considered for the next stage of selection process i.e. Stage-5.

Stage 5: Final selection will be based on the requirements of the academic area to which the candidate has applied and an area-wise offer list will be prepared. Only the candidates satisfying the requirements mentioned in earlier stages will be considered for the final selection. Category-wise and Academic Area-wise merit list will be generated based on Composite Score (CS) as mentioned in Table – 1 and the provisional admission offers will be made.

How to Apply:

Application Procedure: Candidates seeking admissions to the Fellow Programme in Management (FPM) of IIM Indore should submit their application online the period Wednesday, October 17, 2018 to Monday, January 28, 2019 and pay the online non‐refundable/non-transferable application fee of Rs. 1000/- (Rupees one thousand only) + GST extra for General and NC-OBC category and Rs. 500/-(Rupees five hundred only) + GST extra for SC, ST and PWD category.

Candidates belonging to NC‐OBC, SC, ST and PWD categories need to produce valid certificate(s) in support of their reservation category. No change in the category will be entertained after submitting the application.

Candidates who have registered for CAT 2018 and indicated their interest for FPM of IIM Indore while doing the registration for CAT 2018 will not be required to pay any application fee as mentioned above, if they apply for FPM 2019 of IIM Indore.

FINANCIAL SUPPORT:

·         Currently the FPM students at IIM Indore are provided the fellowship grant/stipend of Rs.27,000/-(Rupees twenty seven thousand only) per month during their course work (Term-I, II III and IV) and Rs.33,000/-(Rupees thirty three thousand only) per month after clearing the area comprehensive examination as per norms.

·         A contingency grant of Rs.25,000/-(Rupees twenty five thousand only) per annum for 04 years is also provided to FPM students for supporting the research efforts and is subject to the norms of the programme.

·         The Institute subsidizes for presenting papers in National Conference once in a year from second year onwards.

·         For International Conferences, the Institute subsidizes expenses subject to a ceiling of Rs. Two lakhs with a provision of attending a maximum of two International Conferences plus International Doctoral Colloquium or International Professional Development Workshop during the entire period of the programme but not beyond five years.
