Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) has been established under THE JAMMU AND KASHMIR SHRI MATA VAISHNO DEVI UNIVERSITY ACT, 1999.an Act of the J&K State Legislature (ACT No. XII of 1999 dated 12th May 1999) as an autonomous, highly Technical & fully Residential University. The University started functioning as an academic unit in Aug 2004 when it was inaugurated on 19th August 2004 at the hands of the then Hon'ble President of India Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam. Dr. Kalam also delivered the first lecture to the students of the University.

Eligibility:

The eligibility criteria for admission to various postgraduate programs are listed on the respective pages of the Schools inside this brochure. Keeping in view the number of applications, etc., individual Schools may set a higher eligibility criterion for short-listing of applicants to be called for SMVDUEE test/interview/Essay Writing. Candidates appearing in the Final year examination of the qualifying degree can also apply. However, the candidates must finish their final qualifying examination including viva-voce, if any, before the date of semester registration.

Course Name:

Ph.D [Disciplines: Computer Science Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Economics, Mechanical Engg., Philosophy and Culture, Mathematics, Management, English]

Eligibility:

A candidate for admission to Ph.D. program on Full-Time Registration Basis must have obtained Master's Degree in Engineering/ Technology/ Sciences/ Management/ Humanities & Social Sciences or in interdisciplinary/ trans-disciplinary discipline with minimum CGPA of 6.75 on a ten point scale in relative grading system or minimum CGPA of 6.00 in absolute grading system or 60% marks in aggregate of any University established by law (In order to encourage interdisciplinary research, the SRC may also exercise desired flexibility w.r.t. the qualifying degree of the applicant(s) as found suitable.) or an equivalent degree from a foreign educational Institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions

Selection Process:

PhD

The candidate will be required to undertake the Written Test. The Written Test of candidates being conducted for admission to PhD Program shall be treated as a qualifying criterion (screening test) for proceeding to the Interview process.

The cut-off marks to be kept for passing the Written Test may be decided by the concerned Dept. Research Committee keeping in view the nature of difficulty level of Written Test and related considerations like vacancy position, number of applicants etc.

Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA in any discipline from a recognized University/Institute. Candidates with a valid score in CAT 2019, MAT (Sept 2019, Dec 2019, Feb 2020, May 2020)/CMAT 2020 shall be given preference.

Funding

The University receives funding from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, an autonomous Board set up in August 1986 under the provisions of The Jammu and Kashmir Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Act, 1986 of J&K State Legislature. The University also gets funds from UGC (University Grants Commission).

Selection Procedure for SMVD University:

The eligible applicants shortlisted on the basis of CAT 2016 will be called for group discussion and personal interview.

Scholarships: SMVD University offers scholarship in form of tuition fee waiver to meritorious students admitted to MBA programs as follows:

Above 85 percentile in CAT: Full tuition fee waiver for 1st year & 50% tuition fee waiver for 2nd year

80 to 85 percentile in CAT: Full tuition fee waiver for 1st year only

75 - 80 percentile in CAT: 50% tuition fee waiver for 1st year only
