The candidate must hold a Bachelor’s Degree, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA in any discipline of any of the universities by an Act of the central or state legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared as a deemed to be University under section 3 of UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognised by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India. The bachelor’s Degree or equivalent qualification obtained by the candidate must entail a minimum of three years of education after completing higher secondary schooling (10+2) or equivalent. The basis of computing the percentage obtained by the candidate in the bachelor’s degree would be based on the practice followed by the university/institution from where the candidate has obtained the degree. In case of the candidates being awarded grades/CGPA instead of marks, the equivalence would be based on the equivalence certified by the university/institution from where they have obtained bachelor’s degree. In case the university/institution does not have any scheme for converting CGPA into equivalent marks, the equivalence must be established by ASBM by dividing obtained CGPA with the maximum possible CGPA and multiplying the resultant with 100. Candidates appearing for the final examination for the bachelor’s degree (or equivalent examination) can also apply, subject to furnishing evidence to that effect latest by the stipulated date mentioned in the offer letter, otherwise they may be asked to withdraw from the programme.

About College:

On 28th August 2006, the Prime Minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh announced for the establishment of the National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER) at Bhubaneswar, which will be operated under the umbrella of Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) of Govt. of India. He announced that theNISER will facilitate the synergy between research and higher education in science. He had stated categorically that NISER will be compared with the best institutions in the country in terms of facilities and faculty.The Atomic Energy Commission, in its 182nd meeting held on 16.03.2007 approved the proposal for establishment of NISER at Bhubaneswar. Till the permanent campus comes up, NISER will be functioning from the beautiful campus of the Institute of Physics (IOP), Bhubaneswar, a renowned Institute with state-of-art infrastructure that includes an excellent library, a large computer centre and a number of outstanding research laboratories. Dr. Viyogi, the director of Institute of Physics was given the official charge of NISER.

The government of Orissa agreed to give 300 acres of land to build the campus of NISER at Jatni in Khordha district, near the Barunei hills and about 20kms fromBhubaneswar railway station. Dr. Anil Kakodkar, Chairman, Atomic Energy Commission, visited the plot of land along with the members of the steering committee of NISER project on 30th March 2007. The government of Orissa also agreed to give about sufficient number of flats near IOP for hostel and staff quarters till the permanent campus comes up. Later Government of Orissa also gave 10 acres of land adjacent to the IOP campus to build NISER's own city center which will include a morden style guest house and auditorium.

The Union Cabinet on 6th September 2007, gave its approval for establishment of National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER) at Bhubaneswarat an estimated cost of Rs. 823.19 crore and also creation of 761 posts in academic, scientific, technical, administrative and auxiliary categories for seven year plan. NISER will conduct an integrtated 5 year M.Sc. programme in the core and emerging branches of Basic Sciences to students after their 10+2 Higher Secondary schooling, an integrated M.Sc.+ Ph.D after B.Sc degree and Ph.D. programme after M.Sc. degree.

About College:

The Utkal University, established in the year 1943, is the seventeenth oldest University in India. Its present campus at Vani Vihar,BHUBANESWAR is located on a sprawling 399.9 Acre area in the heart of BHUBANESWAR, with the Sainik School to its north, National High way No.5 to its south, Regional Research Laboratory and Institute of Physics to its west and the South Eastern Railway line to its east. The Foundation stone of this Campus was laid by Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India on 1st January 1958 and the Campus was inaugurated by Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, the second President of India on 2nd January 1963. This is a teaching-cum-affiliating University. There are at present twenty-seven Post-Graduate Departments located in the University Campus for Post-Graduate studies and research in various disciplines of Science, Humanities, Business Administration, Social Science, Law and Commerce. The total number of students in the P.G. Department of the campus at Vani Vihar is nearly 3,000.
