Minimum qualification for admission to the PGDM program at the Institute is three, four years bachelor’s degree with minimum 55% marks in aggregate (50% for SC, ST) in any discipline recognized by Association of Indian Universities. However, preference will be given to Engineering, Economics, Commerce, Management and Computer Science Graduates and candidates with relevant work experience

About College:

The Central Institute of Psychiatry, Ranchi is a Government of India institution and only of its nature in eastern India. The British established this hospital on 17th May 1918 with the name of Ranchi European Lunatic Asylum. It had then a capacity of 174 patients (92 male and 82 female). It catered to the needs of the European mental patients only and it was under the direct control and management of Government of Bihar. In 1922, it was put under the control of a Board of Trustees with various participating state governments represented in the Board and in the very same year its name was changed to European Mental Hospital. The year 1922 is also notable for the fact that the Institute was affiliated to the University of London for the Diploma in Psychological Medicine examination. It was a unique phenomenon since the postgraduate training in Psychiatry was nonexistent in India in those days.It may be worth noting that this Institute has been the most premier centre for mental health in the country and it has many firsts to its credit. For example, to mention only a few, the first Occupational Therapy Department in 1922, ECT in 1943, psychosurgery and neurosurgery in 1947, clinical psychology and Electroencephalography (EEG) departments in 1948, a full fledged neuropathology section in 1952, the first use of Lithium in 1952 and chlorpromazine in 1953. A very modern radiology department with facility for sophisticated cerebral angiography, pneumoencephalography, air ventriculography, myelography etc. was established in 1954. Few other landmarks are starting a child guidance clinic in 1950, rural mental health clinic at Mander in 1967, rehabilitation centre and sheltered workshop in 1967, and industrial psychiatry unit at HEC, Ranchi in 1973. It may also be noted that the Indian Psychiatric Society was established in 1948 because of the efforts of this Institute and it is registered in Patna. The first draft of the Bill that subsequently became the Mental Health Act of India (1987) was written at C.I.P, Ranchi in 1949 by Dr. R.B. Davis, the then Medical Superintendent, Dr. S.A. Hasib, from Indian Mental Hospital, Ranchi and Dr. J. Roy, from Mental Hospital, Gwaliar. The latter two too had worked at C.I.P., Ranchi at one time or other.

Agricultural education was first started in Bihar in 1945 with the establishment of Bihar Agricultural College at Sabour in the district of Bhagalpur. Later on, it was realised that the agricultural situation and features of the plateau region of South Bihar is different from the rest of Bihar. Hence there was a need of a second college for this region. Ranchi Agricultural College was established in 1955, Ranchi Veterinary College in 1961 and College of Forestry in 1980. Considering the importance of agricultural education for the agricultural development of the state, the first Agricultural University in Bihar – Rajendra Agricultural University was started in1971 with its headquarters at Pusa. In view of the specific agriculture features of Chotanagpur and Santhal Parganas, the establishment of a secondAgricultural University, for this region of the Bihar State, was conceived.

Birsa Agricultural University was established on 26th June, 1981 after its formal inauguration by the then Prime Minister of India, Late Smt. Indira Gandhi. Its primary objective is to develop area specific technologies and manpower in the field of agriculture, animal husbandry and forestry for the agricultural development of the plateau region of Bihar and economic upliftment of tribal and other backward class population of the region. The ninth Indian Institute of Management was established at Ranchi in 2010. This was made possible with the extensive support of the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta and the Government of Jharkhand, working under the guidance of Ministry of HRD, Government of India.

We started at a time when the management education world over was criticized for over emphasis on competition, aggression and achievement of results by any means. The biggest challenge was to revive the aura and exclusivity of classroom-teaching in an era ruled by the advent of technology in education as well. There was an evident void in terms of fulfilling the requirements of firms that employ management students.

It was of utmost importance to re-build the curriculum so as to bridge the gap between what was taught and what was needed in the actual business circles. Moreover, it became all the more important to imbibe in students the feeling of returning to the society. We understood the need to incorporate right values in the young minds and also impart education relevant for an information age that encourages networking and collaborative advantage. Also we decided to build contextual knowledge into the programs.

IIM Ranchi currently offers a two year PGDM in General management, which is our flagship programme. Going by the growing importance and indispensability associated with human resources, we are the only IIM offering a full-time two year programme in Human Resources Management (PGDHRM). We also offer Fellow Program in Management (FPM), a fellowship programme funded by the government and an 18-month part time Diploma in Management (PGEXP). We have also launched a certified Barefoot Manger program to promote entrepreneurship and to impart livelihood skills among the school drop outs and illiterates. Our programs are carried out in a world-class fashion with students being exposed to case-studies, relevant projects and relevant industry experience apart from class pedagogy.

A Master is degree or its equivalent in any discipline with minimum 60% aggregate marks. Candidates who have MA/M.Sc/M.Phil in Mathematics, Statistics, Psychology, Neuro-Psychology, Sociology, Linguistics, engineering etc. can also apply (or);

A Bachelor’s degree in Engg/Technology/Architecture with 60% marks or equivalent grade point average (or); any professional qualifications such as CA, ICWA and CS with a minimum 55% aggregate marks

Note: Candidates in their final year of the respective educational program as mentioned above can also apply; however, their admission to the program will be provisional subject to their successful completion of all requirements for obtaining the relevant degree before 30th June 2017

Selection Process

All candidates applying to the FPM except Alumni of the Post Graduate Programs from all IIMs, graduated in the period of 4 years proceeding 30th June 2017, are required to take the Common Admission Test (CAT) or a standard test in lieu of CAT such as GMAT/GATE/UGC or CSIR-JRF

Candidates will be shortlisted and called for an interview for final selection on the basis of their performance in CAT or the standard test in lieu of CAT, academic background, and experience

Financial and Other Supports

IIM Ranchi has excellent facilities in library, computing and faculty resources. IIM Ranchi provides comprehensive financial and other support to the Fellow Program students as indicated below:

Financial Support for 4 years, extensible by an additional year if approved by the committee

Tuition Waiver for the entire program

In case any married student is desirous of availing the facility of 02-bed room accommodation, then 50% of the rent will be borne by the concerned student

Stipend of Rs 30000 per month for the first two years; after qualifying the Comprehensive exams at the end of the second year, the monthly stipend will be raised to Rs 35000 per month for the remaining period

Contingency allowance of Rs 25000/- per annum for 4 years for the purchase of books, stationary etc. printer, pen drives, computer tablet, internal/external hard disks, security software, operating software etc

Rs 50000/- in the first year/ second year for the purchase of computer and software and other peripherals

Financial Support for presenting papers in 04 Domestic and 01 International Conference during the entire tenure of the Fellow Program

About College:

Agricultural education was first started in Bihar in 1945 with the establishment of Bihar Agricultural College at Sabour in the district of Bhagalpur. Later on, it was realised that the agricultural situation and features of the plateau region of South Bihar is different from the rest of Bihar. Hence there was a need of a second college for this region. Ranchi Agricultural College was established in 1955, Ranchi Veterinary College in 1961 and College of Forestry in 1980. Considering the importance of agricultural education for the agricultural development of the state, the first Agricultural University in Bihar – Rajendra Agricultural University was started in1971 with its headquarters at Pusa. In view of the specific agriculture features of Chotanagpur and Santhal Parganas, the establishment of a secondAgricultural University, for this region of the Bihar State, was conceived.

Birsa Agricultural University was established on 26th June, 1981 after its formal inauguration by the then Prime Minister of India, Late Smt. Indira Gandhi. Its primary objective is to develop area specific technologies and manpower in the field of agriculture, animal husbandry and forestry for the agricultural development of the plateau region of Bihar and economic upliftment of tribal and other backward class population of the region. The programmes and activities of education, research and extension are carried out through three faculties (Agriculture, Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry and Forestry) with thirty five departments, College of Biotechnology, six Directorates, three Zonal Research Stations and farms, one University farm, sixteen Krishi Vigyan Kendras, Computer Centre, Central Library and other infrastructure and service units.
