Eligibility:

For BTech (4 years) Course: -

Candidates applying for BTech (4 year) Course should fulfill the following criteria.

1.      Candidates who have passed 10+2 examination in 2008, 2009 or appearing in 10+2 examination in 2010 are only eligible to apply for BTech (4 year) course of the University.

2.      Should have studied in regular full time formal education in their schooling / college.

3.      Pass in 10 +2 or its equivalent with at least 60% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics taken together.

4.      Should have born on or after 01.07.1989.

MBBS/BDS

10+2 pass with Physics, Chemistry, Biology & English with at least 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry & Biology taken together for general category candidates and 40% marks in Physics, Chemistry & Biology taken together for SC/ST Candidates.

Age: Lower age should be 17 years as on 01.07.10 & upper age limit should be maximum 25 years as on 01.07.10. The upper age limit may be relaxed by three year for SC/ST candidates.

For BTech -LE (3 years):- Pass in three years diploma course in Engineering with at least 60% marks in aggregate.

GATE qualified candidates shall be accorded preference in the process of selection. GATE qualified candidates having Score 400 or above need not sit in the entrance Examination.

Electronics and Tele-Communication Engineering: First Class BE / BTech, or equivalent in Electronics and Tele-Comm, Electronics and Instrumentation, Electrical, Electronics, Electronics Electrical or First Class in MSc (Electronics).

Mechanical - Manufacturing Process and Systems: First Class BE / BTech or equivalent in Mechanical / Production Engineering.

Civil - Construction Engineering Management: First Classs BE / BTech or equivalent in Civil Engineering.
MSc (Biotech / Applied Microbiology) (2 years): Bachelor’s degree in any branch of Science/ Agriculture/ Pharmacy/ Veterinary / Engineering / Technology / Medicine (MBBS/BDS) with at least 55% marks. Candidate should have been born on or after 01.07.1986.

For Biotechnology - Dual Degree (BTech and MTech) (5 years): Pass in 10 +2 or its equivalent with atleast 60% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics/Biology taken together. Should have born on or after 01.07.1989.

For Mass Communiction and Journalism- Dual Degree (BJMC and MJMC) (5 years): Pass in 10+2 or equivalent examination from a recognized Central / State Board with 50% marks in aggregate. Should have born on or after 01.07.1989

For all the courses, candidates appearing in the qualifying examination can also apply. But, they have to produce the pass certificate of the qualifying examination on the day of counseling failing which their rank/position secured in the entrance Examination will stand cancelled automatically and they will have no claim for the admissions as per the rank

(If you want to download, take the print out of downloaded application form; go through the Instructions to fill up the form; fill up online application form and submit, take the print out of registration form mentioning the application number, paste the photographs in the space provided for it, sign on signature columns both by candidate and parent/guardian

Dispatch the form along with two passport size photographs pasted in appropriate place and 10th pass certificate/mark sheet. Candidates should retain photocopies of printed application form which may serve as reference for future correspondence. The online application will be accepted subject to receipt of printed application, photographs, copy of 10th pass certificate/mark sheet only. For downloaded application form the candidates have to fill up all the fields very carefully and send it with the photographs and 10th pass certificate/mark sheet

2. MSc (Agri) Biotechnology / MVSc:

 

Eligibility: Bachelor’s degree under 10+2+3/4/5 pattern of education with at least 55% marks or its equivalent grade point average from any recognized university in the concerned subjects shown hereunder against each participating university: 1. UNIVERSITY OF AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES, DHARWAD: Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry, BSc (Agril. Biotechnology) / BTech (Biotechnology) / BSc (Ag Biotechn) / BSc (Agri) in Biotechnology from recognized Agricultural/Horticultural/Forestry Universities. 12. Rajendra Agricultural University, Bihar, Pusa (Samastipur): Biotechnology/Agricultural Horticulture. Candidates with Bachelor Degree in Biology (3 Years duration) will have to spend 3 years in MSc programme.

 Only those candidates who have passed the qualifying examinations in 2009 or thereafter including those who are appearing in 2010 are eligible to apply. In other words, those who have passed the qualifying examination PRIOR to 2009 are not eligible to apply.

3. MTech in Biotechnology

MTech (Biotechnology) Programme at (1) Anna University, Chennai; (2) Cochin University of Science and Technology, Kochi, Kerala; & (3) West Bengal University of Technology, Kolkata

Eligibility: Minimum 60% marks or equivalent grade in any one: BTech / BE in Chemical Engineering/Biochemical Engineering, Industrial Biotechnology, Leather Technology, Chemistry/Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering, BPharma, Chemical Technology, OR MSc in Biotechnology, Life Sciences, Botany, Zoology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Genetics, Biophysics, Microbial Genetics and Bioinformatics. (For Anna University: Candidates with BTech / BE in Electrochemistry, Bioengineering and MSc in Chemistry & Physics are also eligible. For West Bengal University of Technology: Candidates with MSc in Bioengineering are also eligible. For Cochin University of Science and Technology: Candidates with MSc in Marine Biotechnology, Marine Biology/Aquatic Biology & Fisheries, Environmental Biotechnology are also eligible.).

 

Only those candidates who have passed the qualifying examinations in 2009 or thereafter including those who are appearing in 2011 are eligible to apply. In other words, those who have passed the qualifying examination PRIOR to 2009, are not eligible to apply.

Reservation/Concession:

a) Reservation: 15%, 7½% and 3% of seats shall be reserved for SC, ST and Physically Challenged (Handicapped) (PH) candidates respectively. All the SC/ST and PH candidates who have passed the qualifying examination are eligible to apply irrespective of their percentage of marks in the qualifying degree examination. OBC reservation, wherever applicable, will be implemented as per the policy of each participating University.

b) Concession for Kashmiri Migrants: 10% marks will be added to the overall marks scored by a Kashmiri Migrant candidate in the entrance examination. After adding 10% marks, in case he/she is covered in the cut-off point in the merit list, he/she will be offered admission strictly in accordance with his/her inter-se merit along with other candidates subject to his/her meeting the minimum prescribed eligibility requirements and also subject to his/her producing valid registration documents issued by the notified authorities certifying the candidate’s Kashmiri Migrant status.

Tuition Fee/ Scholarship:

Fee shall be charged from the admitted candidates as per the fee structure of the concerned University. Candidates selected for admission are generally eligible for scholarship at the rates prescribed by the Dept. of Biotechnology.

Procedure for getting the form:

By Post: To receive the Application Form by post candidates should send their request only to the Section Officer (Admissions), Room No. 28, Administrative Block, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi-110067, along with a Bank Draft (valid for six months) of Rs 260/-(for one set of Application Form and Prospectus). The Bank Draft should be drawn in favour of “Jawaharlal Nehru University” payable at New Delhi. The request should accompany a self-addressed unstamped envelope of the size of 30x25 cms. indicating clearly on the top of the self addressed envelope the programme for which Application Form is required, ie, “MSc Biotechnology” OR “MSc (Agri) / MVSc Biotechnology” OR “MTech Biotechnology”.

In Person: Sets of Application Form and Prospectus can be obtained personally on cash payment of Rs 200/- per set from any of the participating University as shown above. Please do not send your request through private courier services.

Tata Innovation Fellowship

 

Applications are invited for "Tata Innovation Fellowship", a highly competitive scheme of the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India.

 

Objective:-

1.      The scheme is aimed at rewarding interdisciplinary work where major emphasis is on innovation and translational research with a potential towards commercialization.

 

Eligibility:-

2.      The fellowship is open to Indian Nationals residing in India who are below the age of 60 years.

3.      The applicant should possess a PhD degree in Life Sciences, Agriculture, Veterinary Sciences or a Master's degree in Medical Sciences, Engineering; or an equivalent degree in Biotechnology/related areas. The applicant must have adequate professional experience in the specific area and demonstrated leadership towards innovation.

4.      The candidate must have a regular position in a University/ Organization /Institute/ and should be engaged in research and development. If he/she is availing any other fellowship (national/international), he/she will have to opt for only one of the fellowships (for example JC Bose fellowship, Welcome Trust, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, NIH Senior fellowship, Howard Hughes Medical Institute fellowship and others of similar nature)

 

About the fellowship:-

5.      The amount of the fellowship will be Rs 20, 000/- per month in addition to regular salary from the host institute.

6.      In addition, each fellow will receive a contingency grant of Rs 5, 00,000/- per annum for meeting the expenses on consumables, minor equipment, international and domestic travel, manpower and other contingent expenditure to be incurred in connection with the implementation of research project under the fellowship.

 

Host Institution:-

7.      The Institution where the candidate is working would provide the necessary infrastructure and administrative support for pursuing the research under this fellowship. The candidate will continue to work at the place of his/her employment.

 

Duration:-

8.      The duration of the fellowship will be initially for three years, extendable further by two years on a fresh appraisal.
