About College:
Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, Puducherry (JIPMER) under Government of India since the year 1956, is one of the leading Medical Institutions of India. Spread over a sprawling 195 acre campus in an urban locale of Puducherry (formerly Pondicherry), JIPMER is 170 kms by road from Chennai.
JIPMER has been declared as an Institution of National Importance by a Parliamentary Act, i.e. JIPMER, Puducherry, Act, 2008. A copy of the Act was Gazette notified on 14-7-2008 to enforce this Act. Prior to this the Institute was functioning under the administrative control of Directorate General of Health Service, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, New Delhi.
The Institution is now empowered to award Medical Degrees, Diplomas, etc., under the clauses 23 & 24 of the said Act. Such Degrees / Diploma, etc., shall be deemed to be included in the schedules to the respective Acts governing Medical Council of India, Indian Nursing Council and Dental Council of India, entitling the holders to the same privileges as those attached to the equivalent awards from the recognized Universities of India.
JIPMER imparts Undergraduate (UG), Postgraduate (PG) and Super speciality Medical Training through a working hospital (JIPMER Hospital) with a bed strength of 1500 and a Nursing College. M.B.B.S., B.Sc. M.Sc., M.D., M.S., Degree Courses are offered in 32 various disciplines. Super speciality departments of Cardiology, Neurology, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Neurosurgery, Urology& Neonatology, Clinical Immunology, Clinical Pharmacology, Clinical Haematology and Surgical Gastroenterology also offer D.M./M.Ch. Courses. Fellowship courses are available in four disciplines. Full-time Ph.D. Programmes are available in six disciplines.
JIPMER aims to provide high quality learning environment for those undertaking taught and research degrees awarded by JIPMER in the Faculty of Medicine. Teaching and Training for M.B.B.S. Degree at JIPMER is focused on health improvement, disease prevention and cure as well as fundamental understanding. All medical graduates must meet the core outcomes set by the Medical Council of India (MCI).

MD (Medicine) or MD (Pediatric Medicine) from a University or DNB in Medicine or DNB in Pediatrics recognized as equivalent thereto, by MCI.
Method of Selection:
Selection for DM Courses are made through a 2-Stage performance evaluation
Stage I (400 marks): Written Test with question paper consisting of 100 multiple choice questions (MCQ). Each correct answer will be awarded 4 marks. For each wrong answer one mark will be deducted. If more than one answer is marked, it will be treated as wrong answer and given negative marks.
Ø For DM (Neonatology): MCQs will be distributed as 40 in General Pediatrics and 60 in Neonatology.
Ø For DM (Neurology): MCQs will be distributed as 20 in General Medicine, 20 in General Pediatrics and 60 in Neurology.
Ø For DM (Clinical Immunology): MCQs will be distributed as 20 in General Medicine, 20 in General Pediatrics and 60 in Immunology.
Ø For DM (Clinical Pharmacology): MCQs will be 20 in General Medicine, 20 in General Pediatrics and 60 in Pharmacology.
Ø For Fellowship in Diabetology: MCQs will be 40 in General Medicine and 60 in Diabetology.
Stage II (80 marks): Out of the candidates who secure 50% of marks or above in the Written test (Stage I), Candidates 5 times the number of seats advertised will be called for interview assessment by the Selection Committee, duly constituted for the purpose, on the next working day.
Ø No individual intimation will be sent regarding result of Stage I. It will be displayed on the Notice Board of Academic Section / JIPMER Website.
Ø Candidates who fail to attend any of the 2 Stages mentioned above or secure less than 50% of marks in either stage will not be eligible for admission.

The application form and the form for hall ticket for the afore mentioned courses can be downloaded from JIPMER www.jipmer.edu.in Filled-in application and hall ticket forms with due signature, finger print and photograph, enclosing a MICR Bank Draft for Rs.1000/- (One Thousand only) drawn in favour of “Accounts Officer, JIPMER” payable at Pondicherry, (UT) shall be posted to Professor (Academic), JIPMER, Puducherry-605 006. The last date for receipt of the completed application with the hall ticket form filled-in by the candidate. Application forms incomplete in any respect are liable to be rejected and will not be processed for issue of hall ticket.
The relevant page of the application for downloading from JIPMER website will function from 9.00 a.m.
