IIST is Asia’s first Space Institute and the first in the world to offer the complete range of undergraduate, post graduate, doctoral programmes with specific focus to space science, technology and applications. Course Name:

B.Tech. (Aerospace Engineering) Duration: 4 Years

B.Tech. (Electronics and Communication Engineering (Avionics)) Duration: 4 Years

Dual Degree (BTech + Master of Science/MTech) Duration: 5 Years

Eligibility:

Candidates desirous of admission to IIST must satisfy ALL eligibility criteria detailed below.

(i) Citizenship: Only Indian citizens are eligible to apply for admission in IIST.

(ii) Date of Birth: Candidates belonging to General, EWS and OBC-NCL categories must have been

born on or after October 1, 1994. Candidates belonging to SC/ ST and PD categories must have born on or after October 1, 1989.

The date of birth as recorded in the certificate of high school/ first Board/ or its equivalent will be accepted. If the certificate does not mention the date of birth, candidate must, at the time of accepting the seat, submit an authenticated document from a competent authority indicating the same.

(iii) Minimum Marks Requirement in Qualifying Examination: Candidates must have secured at least 75% aggregate marks in the Class XII (or equivalent – see below for list of Qualifying Examinations) Board examination. The aggregate marks for SC, ST and PD candidates should be at least 65%. The marks scored in the following five subjects will be considered for calculating the aggregate marks:

·         Physics

·         Chemistry

·         Mathematics

·         A language (if the candidate has taken more than one language, then the language with the higher marks will be considered)

·         Any subject other than the above four (the subject with the highest marks will be considered)

How to Apply:

ONLINE ADMISSION PROCEDURE

Candidates who are desirous to join the Undergraduate and Dual Degree Programmes offered by IIST are required to apply separately to IIST through the online application portal and follow the steps detailed below:

(i) Registration:

Visit the online application portal and choose the link to Undergraduate Admission–2019. Follow the instructions given and fill in all the details. The successfully registered candidates will be given a system generated IIST Registration Number. Candidates need to specify a password. It is the sole responsibility of the candidate to keep the password secured to avoid any misuse.

Candidates are advised to carefully read the eligibility criteria detailed in Section 8 given in the Information Brochure before registration. 

(ii) Registration Fee Payment:

Registration Fee payment is through e-payment mode ONLY and should be done by visiting the online application portal (www.admission.iist.ac.in) and clicking on the PAY REGISTRATION FEE link. Receipt of payment will be confirmed through registered E-mail and mobile number.

The Registration Fee is non-refundable and is detailed below for the various categories.

Course Name:

Ph.D. [Streams: Aerospace Engineering, Avionics, Chemistry, Earth and Space Sciences, Humanities, Mathematics, Physics]

Eligibility:

1.    Nationality: Applicant should be an Indian citizen.

2.    Age Limit: Applicant should be below 35 years as on November 14, 2018. Age relaxation is applicable as per Government Rules.

3.    There is no provision for PhD admission in IIST under Self Financing Category.

Minimum Qualifications:

1.    Applicants with Master’s Degree in Engineering/Technology as their highest qualifying degree

Applicants with Master’s Degree in Engineering/Technology must have secured 65% marks or 7.00 CGPA or equivalent in the Qualifying Master’s degree (60%marks or 6.50 CGPA for OBC, 55%marks or 6.00 CGPA for SC/ST/PD). They must have pursued their Master’s degree on the basis of qualified GATE score. However there is no GATE cut off score for applicants with M.Tech/M.E as the highest qualifying degree, who are applying for Ph.D. in Engineering Discipline. Applicants with Master of Science in Engineering or equivalent from leading foreign Universities with minimum CGPA 9/10 or equivalent can be considered without GATE score.

Selection Procedure: For candidates with M.E/M.Tech as their highest qualifying degree, selection to the PhD programme will be based on a written screening test followed by an interview. However, candidates with a valid fellowship such as CSIR/NET-JRF fellowships and CSIR-NET Lectureship post their ME/M Tech, will be directly called for the interview.

2.    Applicants with Master’s Degree in Science as their highest qualifying degree

Applicants must have Master’s Degree in the relevant area with a minimum of 65% marks or 7.00 CGPA or equivalent in the Qualifying Master’s degree (60%marks or 6.50 CGPA for OBC, 55%marks or 6.00 CGPA for SC/ST/PD). They must have cleared a National level eligibility test, such as a valid UGC-CSIR-NET-JRF/Lectureship/ fellowship or NBHM/JEST/GATE and State Government Science and Technology Scheme, in the relevant disciplines.

Selection Procedure: For candidates applying with their Master’s degree in Sciences as their qualifying degree and having a valid score card/certificate in any of the National level eligibility tests listed above, selection to the programme will be based on an interview to be conducted at IIST.

Applicants applying with their JEST score should have secured a rank within the first 300.

Candidates applying with a valid GATE score in a Science discipline, having a minimum score of 500 for General Category (450 for OBC and 350 for SC/ST/PD categories), are exempted from the Ph.D. written screening test conducted by IIST. Applicants having GATE score in Science disciplines less than indicated cut-off above will not be considered for Ph.D. Admission.

3.    Applicants with Master’s Degree in Humanities/Management/Social Sciences as their highest qualifying degree

Applicants must have Master’s Degree in the relevant area of Humanities/Management / Social Sciences with a minimum of 65% marks or 7.00 CGPA or equivalent in the Qualifying Master’s degree (60%marks or 6.50 CGPA for OBC, 55%marks or 6.00 CGPA for SC/ST/PD). They must have cleared a national level eligibility test, such as a valid UGC-NET-JRF fellowship/ State Government Science and Technology Scheme or similar fellowship schemes of Central/State Governments.

Selection Procedure: For candidates applying with their Master’s degree in Humanities/Management/Social Sciences as their qualifying degree and having a valid score card/certificate in any of the National level eligibility tests listed above, selection to the programme will be based on an interview to be conducted at IIST.

4.    Candidates who have been provided research fellowships by State Government Science and Technology Scheme through competitive written test can also apply. For Candidates having research fellowship by State Government without competitive written test will have to appear for written screening test.

How to Apply:

1)    Applications shall be submitted online at the IIST website. Applications received online only will be considered.

2)    The applicants will not be allowed to make any changes in their registration profile once submitted. Hence utmost care should be taken by the applicants while filling their profile

3)    Application fee is to the extent of Rs. 700/- per Department (for SC/ST/PD and Women applicants - Rs.350/- per Department). If the applicant is eligible and wishes to apply for more than one Research Area in the same Department, he/she need not pay any additional application fee. The application fee is non-refundable. Applicants who wish to apply to multiple departments, will have to pay the appropriate application fee (sum of the application fee for each department).

4)    The application fee shall be paid, once enabled by the system one day after the registration, through “SBI Collect” only.

5)    Applicants who are employed in Government/Semi Government/PSUs/ Autonomous Bodies need to produce a “No Objection Certificate (NOC)” from the current employer at the time of Interview.

6)    SC/ST/OBC/Persons with Disabilities (PD) applicants shall upload the relevant certificate in the website before the prescribed date.

Eligibility:

Candidates must make sure that they satisfy the criteria given below for applying for admission to Undergraduate Programmes in IIST.

·         Citizenship

Candidates belonging to General category (GEN) and Other Backward Classes (OBC) categories must have been born on or after October 1, 1993. Candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Persons with Disabilities (PD) categories must have born on or after October 1, 1988.
The date of birth as recorded in the high school/first Board /or its equivalent will be accepted. If the certificate does not mention the date of birth, candidate must submit an authenticated document from competent authority indicating the date of birth at the time of Counselling.

·         Qualifying Examination (10+2 or Equivalent)

Must have secured at least 75% aggregate marks in the Class XII (or equivalent) Board examination. The aggregate marks for SC, ST and PD candidates should be at least 65%. The marks scored in the following five subjects will be considered for calculating the aggregate marks criterion.

·         Physics

·         Chemistry

·         Mathematics

·         A language (if the candidate has taken more than one language, then the language with the higher marks will be considered)

·         Any subject other than the above four (the subject with the highest marks will be considered)

The qualifying examination should be any of the following:

·         The final examination of the 10+2 system, conducted by any recognized Central/State Board, such as Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi; Council for Indian School Certificate Examination (ISCE), New Delhi, etc., recognized by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

·         Intermediate or two-year Pre-University examination conducted by a recognized Board/University.

·         Final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy.

·         Vocational Higher Secondary Examination.

·         Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling with a minimum of five subjects.

·         Any Public School/Board/University examination in India or in any foreign country recognized as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

·         General Certificate Education (GCE) examination (London / Cambridge /Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level.

·         High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva.

·         In case the relevant qualifying examination is not a public examination, the candidate must have passed at least one public (Board or Pre-University) examination at an earlier level.

Marks scored in JEE (Advanced)-2018 Examination

Candidates who are desirous to join B.Tech. Programmes in IIST must appear for the Joint Entrance Examination (Main)-2018 conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi to qualify themselves to appear for Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced)-2018 conducted by IITs and secure the minimum prescribed category-wise marks in JEE (Advanced)-2018 as given below

·         General Candidates (GEN): At least 20% marks in aggregate and at least 5% marks in each of the three subjects (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics).

·         Other Backward Community – Non Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL) Candidates: At least 18% marks in aggregate and at least 4.5% marks in each of the three subjects (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics)

·         Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) & Persons with Disabilities (PD) Candidates: At least 10%marks in aggregate and at least 2.5% marks in each of the three subjects (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics).

IMPORTANT: The candidates applying for IIST admission are advised to make sure that they have secured the above minimum prescribed subject-wise marks and aggregate marks, when the JEE (Advanced) website displays the answer keys on 29th June 2018.

How to Apply:

·         Candidates who are desirous to join the undergraduate programmes in IIST must apply separately for admission to IIST by registering at the online application portal.

·         Online registration portal will be enabled from 5 June 2018 (Tuesday) at 10:00Hrs upto 15 June 2018 (Friday)

·         Read the eligibility criteria carefully before registering online for Admission.
Visit the online application portal (http://admission.iist.ac.in), click the link undergraduate admission-2018  and  fill in all the details in the online application form as per the instructions given there. The registered candidates shall be given a IIST Registration No. and a password. It is the sole responsibility of the candidate to keep the password secret to avoid any misuse.

·         After completing online registration, proceed for remitting the Registration Fee online using SBI-COLLECT (https://www.onlinesbi.com/prelogin/icollecthome.htm) as given below:

·         Male candidates in GEN and OBC-NCL: Rs.600/-

·         Female candidates in GEN and OBC-NCL: Rs.300/-

·         All SC, ST, PD candidates: Rs. 300/-

The Registration fee is non-refundable.

·         IIST Admission Rank list will be generated only for those candidates who register online for admission to IIST, Pay the registration fee and satisfy all the eligibility criteria. Eligibility:

Eligibility and Selection Procedure for Dual Degree BTech and MSMTech Programme in Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology, IISST, Thiruvananthapuram

Applicants should make sure that they satisfy the criteria given below for applying for admission to B. Tech and the Dual degree program in IIST

Candidates belonging to certain categories are admitted to seats reserved based on relaxed criteria as per applicable rules of the Govt. of India. The categories included are:

(iii) Other Backward Castes (OBC) belonging to Non-Creamy Layer (NCL) -27%
