About College:

Forest Research Institute (FRI), Dehra Dun made a humble beginning as Forest School established in 1878. Initially named as Imperial Forest Research Institute, FRI came into being in 1906.  Later renamed as Forest Research Institute and Colleges, with a number of centres located at different places all over the country administering research as well as training of Forest Officers and Forest Rangers.  After reorganization of Forestry Research in the country and creation of Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE) in 1988, the training and research centres were given an independent status of institutes. Forest Research Institute, now one of the institutes under ICFRE, was conferred the status of Deemed University in December 1991 on the recommendations of the UGC, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.

Minimum Qualifications for Admission

A.    The minimum qualification required for admission to a PhD Programme is a Master's Degree in the relevant field with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grade. Relaxation of 5% of marks from 55% to 50% maybe allowed to SC/ST/OBC/differently abled candidates.

B.    An Equivalence Committee will be constituted by the President of GDGU to consider applications other than covered under section (a) who may propose other qualifications/requirements in specific areas, consistent with the norms of the statutory bodies, to the University Research & Innovation Council (URIC) for its recommendation to the Academic Council for approval.

Eligibility:

Age limit as per IMU is 25 years. However individual shipping companies have their own eligibility criteria.

Academic Qualifications:

You must have successfully completed the Senior Secondary Examination (10+2) or its equivalent with:

Physical Standards

To be declared fit for selection, a candidate must be in good mental and physical health and free from any deficiency likely to interfere with the efficient performance of duties, as per the medical standards laid down by the Directorate General of Shipping, Govt. of India. Candidates for DNS (IMU) programme must have 6/6 vision in both eyes. Color blindness is not permitted.

Medical fitness has to be certified by DG Shipping approved company doctors.

The National Institute of Immunology (NII) is committed to advanced research addressing the basic mechanisms involved in body's defence to identify modalities for manipulation of the immune system to provide protection against diseases and understand mechanisms that can be used to target disease processes for intervention. Eligibility:

Minimum qualifications:

a.    M.Sc. in any branch of Science (e.g. Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics), M.Tech., M.B.B.S., M.V.Sc., M.Pharm., Integrated M.Sc., or equivalent qualification as per norms of the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi.

b.    At least 60% aggregate score or equivalent grade in Senior Secondary Certificate (10+2) and Bachelor’s degree, and55% aggregate score or equivalent grade in Master’s degree are essential for general category. Five percent relaxation in aggregate scores in Senior Secondary, Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees will be applicable for candidates from reserved categories [OBC (non-creamy layer; NCL), SC/ST, and PwD]. Rounding off of percentage score to the next integral value is not permitted.

c.    Candidates appearing for the qualifying examination in the current academic year are also eligible to apply; they will be admitted provisionally pending satisfactory fulfilment of the eligibility requirements at the time of joining.

d.    Reservations of seats: 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST, 27% for OBC (non-creamy layer) and 3% for persons with disability (PwD) as per statutory norms.

Selection procedure:

a.    NII will select candidates for the Ph.D. programme through the following Channels:

Channel # 1: Computer-based Entrance Examination, NII-2020,to be conducted by NII at multiple centres all over India on 23rd February 2020 (Sunday).

or

Channel # 2: Joint Graduate Entrance Examination in Biology and Interdisciplinary Life Sciences (JGEEBILS-2020). Candidates applying through JGEEBILS-2020 must submit an application through NII application portal, along with application fees, and the JGEEBILS-2020 admit card.

Candidates must appear in at least one of the two examinations mentioned above. Candidates will be short-listed for an interview based on their scores in either NII-2020 or JGEEBILS-2020. Candidates are encouraged to appear in both the examinations.

b.    The list of candidates short-listed for interviews shall be available on the NII website and Notice Board on or before 9th March 2020.

c.    Interviews will be held at the National Institute of Immunology, New Delhi from 11th to 13th June, 2020.

d.    Candidates selected will be enrolled for the Ph.D. programme of NII in academic affiliation with JNU, New Delhi. Candidates joining the programme will be paid second class train fare on providing the proof of journey.

Ph.D. Programme:

a.    The programme will start on 06th July 2020 and the allotment of laboratories and thesis supervisors will be made by 13th July 2020, based on the interactions with faculties in the candidates’ area of interest and mutual preference.

b.    The institute currently provides a Junior Research Fellowship of Rs.31000/- per month. Selected candidates who are already fellowship awardees from CSIR, UGC, ICMR, DBT, and DST may avail those fellowships as per rules governed by the respective funding agency.

c.    NII is a residential campus and shared hostel accommodation will be provided to all the students admitted to the program.

d. Qualified UGC NET-JRF/ CSIR NET-JRF/ DBT JRF/ ICMR JRF/ DST INSPIRE or equivalent examination /fellowship.

Examination form and fees:

Forms are available on the university website, which can be submitted along with Online Payment or Demand Draft of Rs. 1100/- by (09th Jan, 2020). Those candidates who have been exempted from the Ph.D. Entrance test (as per conditions stated below) also required to fill the application form along with the aforesaid payment.

*The percentage of marks obtained by the candidate would be calculated based on the practice followed by the respective University/Institution. If a University/institution confirms that there is no scheme for converting CGPA into equivalent marks, the equivalence would be established by dividing the candidate’s CGPA by the maximum possible CGPA, and multiplying the result by 100.

# Five percent marks relaxation is given to applicants from SC, ST and PwD categories; i.e., these applicants should have scored at least 50%, 45% and 55% respectively depending on the qualification that the candidate has acquired.

The above qualification should be from any of the Universities, or other educational institutions, incorporated by an act of the Parliament or State legislature in India; or declared to be deemed as a University under Section3 of UGC Act, 1956, or, recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India.

Candidates who are in the final year of the qualifying Programmes that would make them eligible can also apply. Eligibility:

The candidates for the program must have one of the following qualifications obtained from any of the universities incorporated by an act of the central or state legislature in India, or other educational institutions established by an act of parliament or declared to be deemed as a university under section 3 of UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India, or an equivalent qualification from an institution approved by AICTE.

A Master’s degree/PGP from IIMs or its equivalent in any discipline with minimum 60% aggregate marks or equivalent grade point average or

Professional qualifications such as CA/ICWA with degree and CS with B. Com degree along with minimum 60% aggregate marks or equivalent grade point average or

4 Year/8 Semester Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (B.E./B.Tech/B.Arch) with a minimum CGPA of 6.5 out of 10 or equivalent. or

Five year Integrated Master’s degree programme in any discipline, with at least 60% aggregate marks, obtained after completing higher secondary schooling (10+2) or equivalent.

Those who are appearing for their final year examination in the current academic year may also apply. However, their admission to the programme will be provisional subject to their successful completion of all requirements for obtaining the relevant degree before 30th June 2020.

SELECTION PROCESS

Candidates who fulfil the eligibility criteria as stated above are required to take Common Admission Test (CAT) held by the IIMs. Alternatively, those who have qualified GATE, GRE, GMAT or JRF (UGC/CSIR) examinations can also apply in the relevant area of specialization. Scores of any of these examinations including CAT taken during the last two years (two years from the date of the standard test and should be valid on the deadline of submission of the application form, i.e., on or after 1st July, 2018) will be considered valid. Admission to the programme is open to overseas candidates including NRIs and foreign nationals. Candidates who have already have two-year full-time PGP completed in last 10 years from IIMs with minimum grade point equivalent to 6.0 out of 10 point scale or equivalent (with no ‘F’s and not more than two ‘D’s in the first year of PGP) are exempted from the test score, and can apply directly. It is necessary that candidates applying for exemption/Waiver from test must attach copies of both side of the grade sheet to ascertain the equivalence between the grading systems of other IIMs, without which, the application for exemption from test will not be considered. The candidates short-listed on the basis of their academic record and performance in the competitive examinations mentioned above will be called to IIM Raipur for a personal interview for final selection during 8th & 9th April of the year of admission and the successful candidates will receive offers by mid-May of that year. A candidate receiving admission offer from IIM Raipur and accepting the offer within the stipulated date needs to send a commitment fee of Rs. 36,000 (the date of submission will be mentioned in admission offer letter) along with Offer Acceptance Form which will be adjusted against the amount of first installment. If a candidate subsequently wishes to withdraw the offer within the withdrawal date specified in the Offer Letter, Offer Acceptance Amount will be refunded after deducting Rs.1000/- as processing charges. In the event of withdrawal from the Programme after registration, and if seat consequently falling vacant gets filled by another candidate by the last date of admission, IIM Raipur will return the fees collected with proportionate deductions of fee and hostel rent, where applicable.

Inauguration of the Programme will be held on 26th June 2020.

PhD Application Form

The PhD application form can be filled online through the link given in IIM Raipur’s website. A candidate is eligible to fill applications to a maximum of two areas. The last date to apply online is February 28, 2020

Relevant Test Scores

Relevant Test Scores include CAT/GMAT/GRE/GATE/JRF (UGC/CSIR). The test score should be valid on the deadlines of the submission of the application form. Test scores of last two years will only be considered.

Supporting Documents

The supporting documents will consist of:

·         Self-attested copies of mark sheets or transcripts of grades obtained during the course of study for the above degrees. Transcripts in languages other than Hindi and English must be submitted along with certified translations.

·         Self-attested copies of School and University degrees.

·         Percentage conversion certificate from College/University (In case of CGPA/CPA).

·         Two references with their contact details and their respective email IDs from academics who have taught the candidate or with whom the candidate has worked closely on scholarly work. However, the supervisor at work could write a reference, if the candidate has been away from the university for a long period.

·         Self-attested Copies of Work Experience Certificate (if any).

·         Caste Certificate (if applicable)

Application Fee

No Objection Certificate

Candidates must submit the No-Objection Certificate from their employer at the time of admission.

Eligibility:

A candidate should possess Master’s Degree in the subject concerned from a recognized university, with a minimum of 55% (50% in the case of SC/ST candidates) of marks for admission into both M.Phil. and Ph.D. programmes.

Admission Procedure

Admission into M.Phil. and Ph.D. programme shall be through an entrance examination (written test) followed by an interview. However, the applicants qualified at the UGC/ JRF/NET/SLET/M.Phil. tests are exempted from appearing for the entrance test provided they register themselves for the admission by paying the requisite fee.

Medium

The medium of instruction and examination for M.Phil. and Ph.D., entrance test, course work and writing dissertation/thesis shall be English only. In case of languages, the medium of instruction and other activities shall be in the language concerned.

How to Apply:

The registration for M.Phil., and Ph.D. entrance examination is through online only. The candidates are advised to visit the Portal of www.braouonline.in. All the particulars of the candidate has to fill in the prescribed application form and pay the requisite fee at any TS/ AP online centres or through and Debit / Credit card on or before 31-12-2019. Upload the relevant certificates as mentioned in the Application Form / Synopsis through online. The registration fee for the above said each examination is Rs. 500/- (Rupees five hundred only). The registration and payment of examination fee commence from 10-12-2019 and last date of registration and payment of fee is 31-12-2019. Please keep a Xerox copy of the print out received by the candidate after registration for future reference whenever necessary.
