About College:

The National School of Drama is one of the foremost theatre training institutions in the world and the only one of its kind in India. It was set up by the Sangeet Natak Akademi as one of its constituent units in 1959. In 1975, it became an independent entity and was registered as an autonomous organization under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860, fully financed by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. Training in the School is highly intensive and is based on a thorough, comprehensive, carefully planned syllabus which covers every aspect of theatre and in which theory is related to practice. As a part of their training, students are required to produce plays which are then performed before the public. The syllabus takes into account the methods of great theatre personalities who have shaped contemporary theatre in all its variety. The systematic study and practical performing experience of Sanskrit drama, modern Indian drama, traditional Indian theatre forms, Asian drama and western dramatic protocols give the students a solid grounding and a wide perspective in the art of theatre.

Besides its 3-year training programme, the School has also explored new vistas in the areas of children’s theatre and decentralization of theatre training through workshops under the Extension Programme.

The School has two performing wings – the Repertory Company and Theatre-in-Education Company.
The Repertory Company was started in 1964 with four artistes - Shri Ramamurthy, Ms. Meena Williams, Ms. Sudha Shivpuri and Shri Om Shivpuri - with the objective of providing a platform where graduates of the School could perform plays professionally. Over the years it has presented works of various playwrights and directors who have been associated with it and has evolved into one of NSD's major institutions, working on contemporary and modern plays as well as introducing experimental work on a regular basis. In addition to doing productions, it organizes its own Festival, where past and new productions are introduced and staged each summer. NSD’s Repertory Company also tours and performs extensively in India and abroad.

The second performing wing the ‘Theatre-In-Education Company’ (Sanskar Rang Toli) was established in October 16, 1989, and is one of the most important theatre education resource centres in the country. It consists of a group of actor-teachers working with and performing for children. The major focus of the TIE Company is to perform creative, curriculum-based and participatory plays in schools, specially designed and prepared for children of different age groups. The major thrust of the plays is to create an atmosphere that encourages children to raise questions, take decisions and make choices with an awareness of themselves within the larger social context. The TIE Company has done more than 800 performances of 26 plays in Delhi and other parts of the country. More than 5.5 lakh children, apart from college students, teachers, parents and theatre lovers, have witnessed these plays.

Diploma in Dramatic Arts (DDA) Admission 2017

Eligibility:

1.            Graduate in any subject from a recognised University in India or abroad.

2.            Participation in at least 6 productions.

3.            Working knowledge of Hindi & English.

Medium of instruction: Hindi / English

Age Limit as on 1.7.2017 Minimum 20 years Maximum 30 years. The upper age limit is relaxed able by 5 years for SC / ST candidates only.

Reservation for SC/ST/ Physically Disabled Persons: Out of 26 seats, 4 seats are reserved for candidates belonging to scheduled castes; 1 seat is reserved for scheduled tribes; 5 seats are reserved OBC (except Creamy Layer as notified by Government) and physically disabled persons, as per Govt, of India rules.

Selection: The Expert Committee constituted by the School will assess the aptitude and talent of the candidates & its decision will be final. Any CANVASSING in this regard will be treated as a disqualification.

Centers for Preliminary Test: A preliminary test will be conducted at five Centres i.e. Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore, Mumbai & Guwahati. The candidates qualifying in this test will have to attend a workshop of 4 / 5 days in the School premises for their final selection for which they will be paid D.A. and II class train / bus fare from the place of their residence to Delhi & back by the shortest route, on submission of ticket / cash receipt and will also be provided accommodation on modest sharing basis.

Financial Assistance: All selected students will be given monthly scholarship of Rs.6000/- to meet their academic and other expenses.

Physical Fitness: The students selected for admission will undergo a medical test for physical fitness. The preliminary selection is subject to the clearance of fitness test.

Following qualifications are eligible for consideration for admission to the Ph.D programme

Post Graduation degree in the relevant area of Design, Management or Technology; or equivalent qualification from an institute/university of national/international repute with minimum 7 years of education after secondary (class X) last of which was the master’s degree

Where the master’s degree is found to be not relevant to the area of Research, a minimum 10 years of professional experience (teaching/working) in the proposed area of research is required

A minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 6.0 on a 10 point scale (5.5 for SC/ST candidates) or equivalent as determined by the institute wherever letter grades are awarded; or 55% (50% for SC/ST candidates) marks in aggregate (of all the years/semesters) where marks are awarded in the Post-Graduation degree

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi is one of the seven Institutes of technology created as centers excellence for higher training, research and development in science, engineering and technology in India, the others being at Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras, Bombay, Guwahati and Roorkee. Established as College Engineering in 1961, the Institute was later declared an Institution of National Importance under the "Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Act, 1963" and was renamed "Indian Institute of Technology Delhi ". Admission

Candidates who fulfill the eligibility criteria are required to take Common Admission Test (CAT) held by the IIMs. Scores of CAT will be considered valid for admission to the session of 2017. The recently qualified JRF/SRF candidates can also apply in the relevant areas of specialization but they would need to appear in the test conducted by IMI. Fee and Financial Aid

All selected Indian students will be considered for the award of the IMI fellowship. In addition to this, all selected Indian students are exempted from tuition fees. The fellowship provides a monthly fellowship of Rs. 25,000/- during the first two years and Rs. 30,000/- during third year and the fourth year respectively. The maximum duration of the programme for availing fellowship is four years. The IMI fellowship holders are also eligible to get liberal grant for buying book/hardware/software etc. (Contingency grant-maximum Rs. 30,000 per annum (for third year and fourth year) on production of receipts). Please note, all payment (contingency grant) requests are to be recommended by the concerned supervisor and approved by Dean (FPM & Research). The Dean (FPM & Research) should approve all payment requests during the period of course work. The students are also encouraged to present research papers in national and international conferences. SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION FORM:-

17.Detailed Guidelines for filling up of the Application Form are given in Appendix: 5. A specimen copy of CET Application Form is given at Appendix: 6     

18.The applicants are advised to retain a photocopy of the duly filled-in Application Form before the same is submitted to the University.     

19.Online Submission of Application Form For the convenience to the applicants as well as their parents, guardians, the University is also providing the facility of On-Line Submission of Application Form for CET-2017. The application form along with the Common Entrance Test Fee of Rs 1000,- and Rs 100,- as postage and handling can be submitted through the Internet (to be notified on the University website (same as that for offline application). The Admit Cards will, however, be sent only by registered post.     

20.Submission by Hand, post      

The Application Form complete in all respects in the sealed printed envelope given along with Admission Brochure, should be submitted by hand at the University counter or it may be sent by Registered, Speed Post to the Controller of Examinations, Administrative Block, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Sec 16 C, Dwarka, New Delhi-110075.

After the last date is over, application form sent through Registered, Speed Post or by any other means will not be accepted, irrespective of the fact when the form was dispatched, posted. Therefore, candidates are advised to submit their applications at the earliest, instead of waiting for the last date.

21.One application form is valid only for One CET Code. For applying in more than One CET Code, the applicant should purchase separate Admission Brochure and apply separately.   

22.Display of Information on the University's Website regarding receipt of Application Forms for all Common Entrance Tests - 2017   

I. The details of application forms received by the Office of the Controller of Examinations will be displayed on the University Website. The candidates are advised to check their status with the help of Application Form number indicated on the Application Form.       

II.
