Eligibility 

Students should have passed 12th Class or Intermediate in any subject stream from a Recognised Board. Students who have studied International Baccalaureate Diploma and will be completing 12th class with clear results declared by June 2019 are eligible to apply.

Candidates who have appeared for their 12th class or Intermediate final exams and are awaiting results are also eligible to apply. Final pass result should be produced at the time of joining the programme, if selected.

Age Limit: Candidate should be 23 years or less in age at the time of appearing for the Bachelors Admission Test, as on May 10, 2019. Applications from candidates over this age will not be entertained.

Candidates are required to apply online through the E-application process only, please read all information through the website before filling in the application form.

Candidates facing technical problems while filling in the application form may call 022-25525252 (Monday to Saturday - Timing 8:00 am to 8:00 pm).

General Instructions about applying:

APPLICATION PROCESS

Candidates fulfilling the eligibility criteria should apply for the programme only through an online process by visiting the admissions link on the TISS website on or before March 20, 2019.

Candidates will enter the online application process by giving their authentic email id. To this email with a link to set a password and access the application.

Candidates are expected to use the same email id and password for the entire process till the completion of the admission process.

Candidates will have an option to fill the form and complete the processes entirely at one go or fill partially and save the form for completion before the due date.

Candidates are encouraged to complete the process at the earliest and not delay the process of online submission till the final date.

Candidates are expected to give their preference for one centre only in the online application. This preference cannot be changed through a phone call or email or in person.

Application fees of Rs. 1025 for General and OBC candidates and for eligible candidates (SC/ ST and OBC (NC) family income less than 2.5lakhs and OBC-NC candidates with income less than 1 lakh) the fees would be Rs. 250 + bank charges can be paid online through Credit card/ Debit Card/ Online transaction. Other SC/ST candidates family income more than 2.5 lakes the application fee would be Rs. 500/- 
Candidates applying online will be asked to choose between two modes of payment 'Cash' or 'Payment Gateway' in the online application form. If the preferred mode of payment is 'Cash', a payment challan has to be downloaded from the 'Download Challan' tab. Deposit the cash amount mentioned on the challan in any branch of State Bank of India. The bank will return two copies of the challan copy (Student Copy and TISS Copy) with the bank’s seal, signature and journal number on it. Candidates have to then scan the 'TISS Copy' of the challan, login back to the online application system and upload it.

Integrated Master of Philosophy-Doctor of Philosophy M.Phil-Ph.D

Course Description:

Integrated Master of Philosophy-Doctor of Philosophy (M.Phil-Ph.D) and direct Ph.D programs in various research areas with the various schools and independent centres of the institute across TISS Mumbai, Tuljapur, Guwahati and Hyderabad campuses for the academic session 2017.

Eligibility:

·         The minimum academic qualification is a second class master’s or equivalent degree in the relevant subject awarded by a recognized university in India or abroad, with at least an average of 55 per cent of aggregate marks, or a grade point average of 3.5 under the seven-point scale of the University Grants Commission (UGC).

·         In the case of Scheduled Caste (SC/ST/OBC) candidates, the minimum eligibility is an average of 50 per cent of aggregate marks, or a grade point average of 3.05.

·         Candidates who are likely to complete all the requirements of their final year master’s degree examinations by July 1, are also eligible to apply for M.Phil, provided they have successfully completed their first year masters degree.

·         A minimum of five years of post graduation work experience is required for Direct PhD programs. In case of the Integrated M.Phil-PhD Program, there is no requirement of work experience. However, candidates with one to two years of work experience will be preferred.

·         Candidates can apply online.

·         Payment can also be done through cash, a payment challan has to be downloaded and Deposit the cash amount mentioned on the challan in any branch of State Bank of India. 

Paper Pattern for TISS-BAT 2017:

·         The entrance test will be of 90 minutes duration and the total marks will be 100.

·         Part-A: will be a 60 minute test with multiple choice questions on current affairs, social awareness and logical and analytical reasoning, carrying 60 marks.

·         Part-B: will be a written test with a set of deive questions in English. Candidate is expected to write two short answers in 30 minutes carrying 40 marks. It is compulsory for the candidates to attempt both the parts.

·         Both part A & part B will have separate cut off marks for evaluation.

MA Social Sciences (Guwahati, Tuljapur, Hyderabad)

Eligibility:

Eligibility and Selection Procedure for MA Social Sciences in Tata Institute of Social Sciences, TISS, Mumbai

(a)   A Bachelor’s Degree of a minimum of 3 years duration or its equivalent (under the 10+2+3 or 10+2+4 or 10+2+2+1 year bridge course pattern of study or any other pattern fulfilling the mandatory requirements of 15 years formal education) from a recognised university, in any discipline. OR

(b)  Candidates who will complete all the requirements of their final year Bachelor’s Degree examinations are also eligible to apply to all the programmes, except the four programmes offered by the School of Health Systems Studies; provided they have successfully completed their first and second years, if the degree course is of 3 years; and the first, second and third years, if the degree course is of 4 years. Candidates applying for the M.A. Education (Elementary) programme should complete all the requirement. In such cases, admission to any of the Master’s Degree Programmes of the Institute will be provisional. If a provisionally admitted student fails in the final year examination, the offer of provisional admission automatically stands cancelled.

 (c)   Candidates applying for the Master of Public Health in Health Policy, Economics and Finance; and Master of Public Health in Social Epidemiology Programmes should have (i) A Master’s Degree in any discipline, or (ii) A Bachelor’s Degree in medicine/para-medical courses.

(d)  Candidates who are in their final year Bachelor’s Degree Programme are not eligible to apply for admission to any of the Master’s Degree programmes, conducted by School of Health Systems Studies, i.e., Health Administration; Hospital Administration; Public Health in Social Epidemiology; and Public Health in Health Policy, Economics and Finance.

(e)   Candidates applying for the Master in Habitat Policy and Practice should have a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Architecture, Management, Physical Sciences, Geography, Planning, Law, or Social Sciences, with some inclination towards habitat related issues/sectors.

(f)    Medical graduates should complete their internship. Otherwise, their candidature/admission stands cancelled.

How To Apply:

Application Procedure for MA Social Sciences in Tata Institute of Social Sciences, TISS, Mumbai

All candidates are required to apply online through the E-application only, available on the Institute's website www.tiss.edu.

Candidates applying through the online mode should pay Rs. 800/- (if applying for one programme), Rs. 1600/- (if applying for two programmes) and Rs. 2,400/- (if applying for three programmes) by submitting a prescribed challan to any branch of the State Bank of India (this challan can be downloaded from the TISS website). The portion of the prescribed challan marked for TISS should be sent along with the application and the portion marked for candidate should be preserved till the GD/PI gets over. The candidate will be able to download the challan once they fill up the complete details of the application form and before taking out a print of the filled-in application. Please note that the SBI will charge Rs. 50/- as their processing fee, which cannot be adjusted against the application fee.

For candidates applying online, payment has to be made only through the SBI, and the payment challan has to be submitted to the Institute along with the Application Form. If payment is made via demand draft, pay order or any other mode, the application will be rejected and no communication to this effect will be sent to such candidates.

Candidates from remote places where no Internet and telecommunication facilities are available can get OMR-based application form from the Institute by following the instructions given below:

(A)   Please prepare a Demand Draft from any branch of the State Bank of India (SBI) drawn in favour of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, payable at SBI, Deonar, Mumbai (Branch Code 03109) for Rs. 800/- (if applying for only one programme), Rs. 1600/- (if applying for only two programmes), or Rs. 2400/- (if applying for three programmes).

(B)   Please send the Demand Draft to the Assistant Registrar (Academic) of the Institute along with a self-addressed (A4-sized) cloth-lined or thick envelope with a postal stamp of Rs. 50/-, and a request letter containing details of address, contact number, etc. Requests coming without the postal stamp and Demand Draft will not be accepted.

The Institute has the right to not send the OMR-based application to candidates who are not from remote areas place. Please note that the money will not be refunded.

Unemployed Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe candidates, whose parent’s /guardian’s income is less than Rs. 1 lakh (Rupees one lakh only), are exempt from paying the Application Fee. They should apply online through the E-application, and if they are from remote places, they can send a request letter without the payment challan and stamped envelope, but with a request letter, a plain self-addressed envelope and copies of Caste and Income Certificates attested by any School headmaster or a Principal of College or a gazetted officer. Requests received without the above Certificates will be rejected and no communication will be sent in this regard.
