The Shipping Corporation of India was established on October 2nd, 1961, by the amalgamation of Eastern Shipping Corporation and Western Shipping Corporation.
Starting out as a marginal Liner shipping Company with just 19 vessels, the SCI has today evolved into the largest Indian shipping Company. The SCI also has substantial interests in various segments of the shipping trade. SCI’s owned fleet includes Bulk carriers, Crude oil tankers, Product tankers, Container vessels, Passenger-cum-Cargo vessels, Phosphoric Acid / Chemical carriers, LPG / Ammonia carriers and Offshore Supply Vessels. Sailing through for nearly five decades, the SCI today has a significant presence on the global maritime map.
As the country’s premier shipping line, the SCI owns and operates around one-third of the Indian tonnage, and has operating interests in practically all areas of the shipping business; servicing both national and international trades.
In view of the demand from Indian trade, the SCI has diversified into a large number of areas. The SCI is today the only Indian shipping Company operating: break-bulk services, international container services, liquid/dry bulk services, offshore services, passenger services. In addition, the SCI mans and manages a large number of vessels on behalf of various government departments and organizations.
The SCI has immensely contributed to the growth of India’s EXIM trade and the national exchequer, by being a net earner/saver of valuable foreign exchange.

Maritime Training Institute Mumbai announces Graduate Marine Engineers (GME) 2018 Applications are invited from Unmarried Mechanical Engineers for admission to Graduate Marine Engineers (GME) Course at SCI’s Maritime Training Institute at Powai,Mumbai, commencing from 01st March 2018 As a National Carrier and the country’s premier shipping line, the Shipping Corporation of India owns and operates around half of the Indian tonnage, and has operating interests in practically all areas of the shipping business; servicing both national and international trades About GME Course GME course is conducted at SCI’s Maritime Training Institute at Powai, Mumbai. This course is approved by Directorate General of Shipping (DGS). GME course comprises of pre-sea training of 08 months at MTI Powai and structured shipboard training of 10 months thereafter on ships operated by SCI No. of Seats The number of seats is 40 (Unreserved (UR)-20, Other Backward Caste (OBC)-11, Schedule Caste (SC)-06, & Schedule Tribes (ST)-03)

Degree in Mechanical Engineering (BE /B Tech in Mechanical Engineering) from AICTE Approved Engineering College. Equivalent degree or degree with specialization or electives other than above educational qualification is not acceptable
Final year/semester students who have appeared and expect their results by date 31st December 2017 are also eligible to apply. Candidates must be in possession of valid
Engineering degree certificate /Provisional degree certificate/Marks Sheet with minimum 50% marks in final year of Engineering at the time of interview
However, candidates should have secured at least 50% marks in English language at 10th or 10th+2 class
Maximum 28 years as on 01st October 2017 (Date of commencement of training). Candidates belonging to UR/OBC category must be born on or after 01st October 1990
Age relaxations of 5 years applicable to SC/ST candidates as per existing Govt. Directives. Candidate belonging to SC/ST category must be born on or after 01.10.1984. Age relaxation of two years for women candidates applicable
The fees for training are Rs.450000/- for both male and female candidates; candidate will pay fees to the Maritime Training Institute (MTI), Powai
Fees once paid are not refundable at any stage either in full or part. Consolidated stipend of Rs.15000/- per month will be paid to candidates for structured shipboard training. No stipend will be paid to candidates during shore based training
Candidate must have good health and be fit for sea service as per existing MS Medical rules 2000/MLC 2006 applicable to seafarers
Eligible candidates will be required to appear in the All India on line test at their own expenses and only candidates qualifying in the online test will be called for Personal Interview in the ratio of 1:3. (3 candidates called against 1 vacancy) keeping the provision of reservation for SC/ST/OBC
The Shipping Corporation of India Ltd. reserves the right to shortlist the candidates for on line test also
The online exam shall be of two (02) hours duration, which will be in the form of multiple choice questions (MCQs). The on-line exam will focus on MCQ’s on Quantitative Aptitude test, Professional Knowledge test, English Language test and Reasoning Ability test
The questions of the test will be bilingual (English and Hindi). Candidate MUST PASS in each of the objective tests to qualify for personnel interview
The passing Marks in each test will be decided on the basis of the performance of all the competing candidates in each test
The on-line examination will be held at Mumbai, New Delhi, Kolkata, and Chennai only. Candidates will have to choose a test centre, nearest from their home town and the same cannot be changed after the form is submitted online
However, the Shipping Corporation of India reserves the right to cancel or add any test centre or change the centre chosen by the candidate
Rs.1000/- for General (UR) and
OBC Candidates and Rs.500/- for SC & ST candidates, excluding NEFT bank charges
Before filling online application, form candidates must Deposit the application fees. National Electronic Funds Transfer (NEFT) and obtain UTR number or by Online banking and obtain transaction number from respective bank immediately after fees deposited

How to Apply
Applications will be accepted online only from 22nd December 2017 to 21st January 2018. Candidates have to log on to www.shipindia.com for the important instructions for filling the online application
Eligible candidates have to apply online only. It is mandatory that the candidates should have a valid e-mail id and mobile number while applying in order to facilitate faster communication. All future communications and correspondence will be through emails and our official website only
Before filling application online, candidates must deposit application fees to the above mentioned SCI Ltd, bank account and obtain NEFT UTR/Bank Transaction Number
Detailed instructions for filling the application form will be given under the "General Instructions". Candidates should read all instructions before filling application form carefully
The application form with bank transaction receipt must be sent by Ordinary- Post/Courier/Speed-Post/Registered-Post (No Hand delivery will be accepted) to the following address super scribing the envelope as: “Application for GRADUATE MARINE ENGINEER” and addressed to: Senior Vice President, Flee Personnel Dept.
