National Institute of Rural Development is an autonomous organisation of the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India. The institute's services are available to different ministries/ departments of the Central and State Governments, banking institutions, public and private sector organisations, civil society organisations and other national and international agencies connected with rural development. Since its inception in the year 1998, National Academy of Construction has emerged as a distinctive institution and one of its kind for providing training and development of all types of construction resources, technologies and methodologies for fast track completion of projects.

Construction is one such area where technology is developing at a very fast rate. Hence one needs proper understanding of the technology and importance of proper training. The selection for admission to a programme is made on the basis of merit, academic record, professional experience, and service rendered in the areas that are directly related to the subjects.

Intimation of Selection:

The candidates selected for admission will be intimated by mail / post individually under certificate of posting and also through the email (addresses if provided in the CDE office). The list of selected candidates will also be displayed on the notice board at the Centre for Distance Education and on the University www.uohyd.ernet.in 3.2 Reservations for SC and ST Students: Since the course offered in Distance Mode there is no limitation no. of seats. All eligible candidates are given admissions and OBC Students the reservation 27% of admission. In accordance with the policy of the Government of India and the guidelines of the University Grants Commission, 15% and 7.5% of admissions for each course will be reserved for students belonging to the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes respectively, with a provision for inter-changeability between these categories, wherever necessary. Students applying for such programmes should submit, along with their application, a copy of their caste/tribe certificate from a Revenue Officer not below the rank of Tahasildar / Mandal Revenue Officer.

Reservations for Physically Challenged (PC) Students:

3% of admissions for each course are reserved for physically challenged students with the minimum 7

degree of disability to the extent of forty percent, provided that their physical disability does not hamper pursuit of the course. Each physically handicapped student shall be required to submit a certificate from a Civil Surgeon indicating the extent of visual/physical disability and also the extent to which the disability hampers the student in pursuing his/her studies. The students may have to undergo a fresh medical examination, if decided by the University, before being admitted.

Admission of Foreign/NRI Students: Foreign students residing in India or abroad are eligible to apply for admission in the prescribed form within the stipulated date. Those who have passed the qualifying examination from Universities outside India should enclose relevant certificate marks sheets together with the English version (if they are in a different language), duly attested for admission to any Programme, the foreign students must have passed the qualifying examination and proficiency in English which is a pre-condition for admission. The Central Institute of English and Foreign Languages – CIEFL is a National Institute for providing higher education in English and other Foreign Languages in India. The EMRC functions under the control of CIEFL. In fact, Educational Media Research Centre, CIEFL, Hyderabad came into being in 1985. The Institute of Public Enterprise (IPE) was established in 1964 for the study of issues and policies relating to public enterprises (PEs).  Shri.S.S Khera, ICS, the then Cabinet Secretary, Government of India, had conceived the idea of a research institution that would undertake a systematic and sustained study of issues relevant to the formulation of policies towards public enterprises. In the early sixties, when PEs were designed as the principal instrument to serve the social and economic objectives of development, Shri. Khera felt that there was need for an institute which would collect relevant information and documents on PEs, study specific issues and undertake consultancy and training exclusively for PEs. Dr.V.V. Ramanadham, the then Professor and Head of the Department of Commerce, Osmania University, translated Shri Khera’s concept into a reality that is IPE, with the active support and guidance provided by the late Dr. D. S Reddy, then Vice-Chancellor, Osmania University as an autonomous, non-profit society at the initiative of the then Cabinet Secretary to the Government of India, Shri S.S.Khera, ICS, and late Dr.D.S.Reddy, Vice-Chancellor of Osmania University. The Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, recognized the Institute as a ‘Centre of Excellence’ in social science research in 1976.  The Institute is partly funded by the ICSSR and the Government of Andhra Pradesh.

The Institute is located in a picturesque greenwood area at Hyderabad in Osmania University Campus. Over the last 40 years, the Institute has widened the area of its work. Starting with research, the Institute soon found itself having to undertake consultancy for PEs and responding to the training needs of the executives of PEs and various educational programmes. 

The Institute became a pioneer in the field of computerization, assisting the Government of Andhra Pradesh and several other states in formulation of computerization policy, developing software for PEs and public systems, and on the use of computers as a decision support system.

The educational programmes of the Institute have their basic foundation in the various research, training and consultancy activities undertaken by the Institute for public and private organizations/industries over the last four decades. The programmes are the natural extension of the educational activities of the Institute from the short term management education to the long-term one and have lead to vertical integration of the research function. The insights into management education began in 1981 with the commencement of a 3-year part time MBA (PE) programme for practicing managers. In the year 1995, the Institute started a two-year full time Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management (PGDBM), recognized as equivalent to MBA by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), to provide skilled human resources to meet the requirements of the Industry. Consolidating on the experience and to meet the needs of the industry, the Institute commenced  two-year full time Post Graduate Diploma in Management - Retail and Marketing (PGDM-RM) in 2007, Post Graduate Diploma in Management - Banking, Insurance and Financial Services(PGDM-BIF) in 2008, Post Gradue Diploma in Management - International Business (PGDM-IB) and Post Graduate Diploma in Management - Bio-Technology (PGDM-BT) in 2009. Institution also started Executive PGDM in 2009. These courses are recognized by AICTE. These insights have led to the creation of a niche for itself in the conduct of the PGDBM course. IPE’s long association with the Indian industry has been responsible for its pre-eminent position in the area of management education.

The Osmania University, established in 1918, is the seventh oldest in the country, third oldest in South India and the first to be established in the princely State of Hyderabad.  Though the need for a university for the Hyderabad State was felt, both by the intelligentsia and the people for a long time, the initiative came from a civil servant, Sir Akbar Hydari, who was then the Home Secretary to the State Government.  Sir Akbar, in a Memorandum to the Education Minister in early 1917, emphasized the need to establish a University for Hyderabad with ‘Urdu’ as the medium of instruction “as it is the language of the widest currency in India, official language of the State, and it is a language which is understood by a vast majority of the population of the State.”  He believed that higher education must have its foundations deep in the national consciousness.
