About College:

The Osmania University, established in 1918, is the seventh oldest in the country, third oldest in South India and the first to be established in the princely State of Hyderabad.  Though the need for a university for the Hyderabad State was felt, both by the intelligentsia and the people for a long time, the initiative came from a civil servant, Sir Akbar Hydari, who was then the Home Secretary to the State Government.  Sir Akbar, in a Memorandum to the Education Minister in early 1917, emphasized the need to establish a University for Hyderabad with ‘Urdu’ as the medium of instruction “as it is the language of the widest currency in India, official language of the State.

National Institute of Nutrition (NIN) was founded by Sir Robert McCarrison in the year 1918 as ‘Beri-Beri’ Enquiry Unit in a single room laboratory at the Pasteur Institute, Coonoor, Tamil Nadu. Within a short span of seven years, this unit blossomed into a "Deficiency Disease Enquiry" and later in 1928, emerged as full-fledged "Nutrition Research Laboratories" (NRL) with Dr. McCarrison as its first Director. Eligibility:

·         Candidates should have passed Bachelors in Life Sciences/Nutrition or any other examination recognised equivalent thereto or higher degree.

The vision of the late legendary, Padmashree Dr N T Rama Rao, erstwhile Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, became a reality when 'The Andhra Pradesh University of Health Sciences, first of its kind, was established in 1986 by the Government of Andhra Pradesh, with Vijayawada as Headquarters. It is a state wide University with the aim of ensuring efficient and systematic education, training and research in allopathic and Indian systems of medicine, Dentistry and Nursing. Act No.6 of the A P Legislature was passed accordingly and the University was inaugurated on 9th April, 1986 by the then Chief Minister Dr. N.T.Rama Rao. The University started functioning from 1st November in the same year.

The objectives of the University are:

About the PhD Program The PhD degree be awarded by the University after fulfilling all the requirements for the Degree of "Doctor of Philosophy" by Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada Duration The duration of the PhD course shall be a minimum of 3 years (full time) and 4 years (part time) for Post Graduates Types of PhD research Program and facilities The candidates seeking PhD admission can apply in any one of the following categories a) Subject -wise PhD program An eligible candidate can apply in the subject of his/her specialty (e.g. Microbiology) to work under the guidance of a guide in the same specialty (e.g Microbiology). If needed there can be one or two co guides in the same subject or related subjects, based on the nature of research work b)Interdisciplinary PhD program A candidate can apply for interdisciplinary PhD program with two or more related subjects in any one faculty (e.g. Modern Medicine, Ayurveda) or different faculties (e.g. Nursing and Physiotherapy).
