Design Aptitude Test DAT 2018, National Institute of Design NID DAT 2018

About NID DAT 2018:

For the Academic Year 2019-20, the National Institute of Design (NID) invites online applications for the following Programs from Indian and International Applications:

·         Bachelor of Design (B.Des.) [at NID Ahmedabad Campus] Duration: 4 years

·         Master of Design (M.Des) [at Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, and Bengaluru Campus] Duration: 2.5 years

·         Graduate Diploma Program in Design (GDPD) [at Vijayawada & Kurukshetra] Duration: 4 years

National Institute of Design (NID) conducts NID Design Aptitude Test 2019 will offer admissions to aspirants in the Bachelor of Design (B.Des) as well as Master of Design (M.Des) Program on the basis of their performance in the entrance test.

The National Institute of Design (NID) offers 4-years Bachelor of Design (B.Des) Program at Ahmedabad and 2½ years Master of Design (M.Des) Program at Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar; Bengaluru Campuses and Graduate Diploma Program in Design - GDPD - 4 years at Vijayawada & Kurukshetra.

Note: The National Institute of Design has authorized the All India Management Association, New Delhi, to process all its applications for the M.Des., B.Des. and GDPD programmes.

Eligibility:

For B.Des & GDPD:

All applicants applying for the B.Des and GDPD programs must fulfill both the following criteria; of age and education qualification:

Age Limit

·         For Indian Nationals in General Category: Upper age limit for candidates is 20 years as on 30th June 2019. Only those candidates born on or after 01st July 1998 are eligible to apply

·         For Indian Nationals in Reserved Category (OBC-NCL, SC, ST): Upper age limit for candidates is 23 years as on 30th June 2019. Only those candidates born on or after 01st July 1995 are eligible to apply

·         For Indian Nationals in PwD Reserved Category: Upper age limit for candidates is 25 years as on 30th June 2019. Only those candidates born on or after 01st July 1993 are eligible to apply

·         For Foreign Nationals in Overseas (Supernumerary) Category: Upper age limit for candidates is 20 years as on 30th June 2019. Only those candidates born on or after 01st July 1998 are eligible to apply

Educational Qualification:

Applications for academic year 2019–19 are open to applicants who have passed or will appear for higher secondary (10+2) qualifying examinations in the academic year 2019-20 in any stream (Science, Arts, Commerce, etc.) from any recognised board of education such as CBSE, IB, ICSE or their equivalent

Exams considered equivalent to these are as follows:

·         Final examination of the 10+2 system under a central or state board recognised by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU, Refer www.aiuweb.org)

·         Intermediate or two-year pre-university examination under a board or university recognised by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU, Refer www.aiuweb.org)

·         Final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy

·         Senior secondary school examination under the National Institute of Open Schooling, with a minimum of five subjects

·         Any public school, board or university examination completed in India or in any foreign country recognised as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU, Refer www.aiuweb.org)

·         H.S.C. vocational examination

·         General Certificate Education (GCE) examination at the Advanced (A) level taken in London, Cambridge or Sri Lanka

·         High School Certificate Examination from Cambridge University or an International Baccalaureate diploma from the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva

·         Candidates who have completed final examinations for class XII (or equivalent) outside India or from a board not specified above should produce a certificate from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) confirming that the examination they have passed is equivalent to the Class XII examination conducted in India

Overseas Category (Supernumerary) candidates:

Foreign citizens - applicants holding citizenship of a country other than the Republic of India - are eligible to apply only under the overseas (supernumerary) category, provided they fulfill all the eligibility criteria.

For M.Des:

All applicants applying for the M.Des. Programme (any discipline) must fulfill both the following criteria; of age and education qualification

Age Limit:

·         For Indian Nationals in General Category: Upper age limit for candidates is 30 years as on 30th June 2019. Only those candidates born on or after 01st July 1988 are eligible to apply

·         For Indian Nationals in Reserved Category (OBC-NCL, SC & ST): Upper age limit for candidates is 33 years as on 30th June 2019. Only those candidates born on or after 01st July 1985 are eligible

·         For Indian Nationals in PwD Reserved Category: Upper age limit for candidates is 35 years as on 30 June 2019. Only those candidates born on or after 01st July 1983 are eligible

·         For Foreign Nationals in Overseas (Supernumerary) Category: Upper age limit for candidates is 30 years as on 30 June 2019. Only those candidates born on or after 01st July 1988 are eligible to apply

Educational Qualification:

·         In addition to the above, the candidate must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications to be considered eligible for admissions:

·         Bachelor degree of minimum 4-year duration in any specialization, after 10+2 system, from any university or institute recognised by law in India; Condition: Applicant must (have passed/have appeared for/be appearing for) the Bachelor degree exams before June 2019 or

·         Bachelor degree of minimum 3-year duration in any specialization, under the 10+2 system. Applicants must have passed the Bachelor degree exams before July 2018; or

·         Full-time Diploma of minimum 4-year duration in Design/Fine Arts/Applied Arts/ Architecture, after 10+2 system, from any university or institute recognised by law in India. Condition: Applicants must (have passed/have appeared for/be appearing for) the Diploma Exams before June 2019

Overseas Category (Supernumerary candidates):

Foreign citizens - applicants holding citizenship of a country other than the Republic of India - are eligible to apply only under the overseas category, provided they fulfill all the eligibility criteria. Of the seats available for the M.Des, 15% supernumerary seats have been created for overseas applicants.

Design Aptitude Test (DAT)

All candidates applying for B.Des, GDPD and M.Des Programs and having made the necessary payment for registration online will be called for the Design Aptitude Test

The Design Aptitude Test (DAT) Prelims primarily evaluates each candidate on the following abilities:

·         Knowledge

·         Analysis

·         Comprehension

·         Creativity

·         Visualisation

DAT Prelims will consist of two parts:

Part I: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) marked out of 70 points. The responses of this part will be recorded on an OMR sheet and evaluated digitally

Part II: Subjective questions marked out of 30 points, with responses to be provided in visual and/or written formats. The Design Aptitude Test (Prelims) will include an examination of three hours duration

This will be a pen-and-paper test.

The question paper will be in English. All questions are compulsory.

There will be no negative marking.

DAT Mains 2019 Exam Pattern

DAT Mains 2019 will consist of tests in different formats such as drawing/sketching, hands-on model making, group discussions, presentations, etc.

These will be marked out of 100 points and will be conducted in English

NID DAT Merit List 2019

Based on the scores obtained in the Design Aptitude Test (DAT), separate NID DAT 2019 Merit Lists will be prepared for each category (Open, OBC-NCL, SC, ST &PwD). Based on the merit list of DAT Prelims, eligible candidates will have to appear for DAT Mains

The number of candidates shortlisted will be no less than three times the number of seats available per category in that discipline or program. The final merit lists for the B.Des. programs will be generated category wise, based on the sum total of the weighted scores obtained by the candidate at each stage of the admission process

Test Centres for DAT 2019

DAT will be conducted in the following cities in India: Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneshwar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Ranchi, Thiruvananthapuram, and Vijayawada

How to Apply:

NID 2019 Application Process:

·         Candidates aspiring for admission to the programs may apply online or download application form from our official website and follow the steps below:

·         Read and apprise yourself with the information on eligibility criteria, number of seats, test centres, reservation policy and other relevant information related to admissions to B.Des and M.Des Programmes at NID in the Admissions Information booklet available on the website

·         Application Form of NID 2019 is available from 09th November 2018 onwards. Aspirants will be able to fill the form in online mode only. The application fee is Rs.2000/- for General category candidates and Rs.1000 for SC/ST/PwD candidates

·         Relevant information related to admissions to GDPD Program at NID Vijayawada is provided in the NID Vijayawada prospectus, available on the website.

Application Fee:

Candidates can pay the application fee via Online (by Credit Card/ Debit Card) or by Demand Draft. If paying the fee by DD take a printout of their NID Entrance Exam 2019 application form and thereafter send it along with the DD. Also, aspirants need to fill all the details regarding their DD in their online application form

Important Dates:

Last date for submitting online applications: 23rd November, 2018 (Thursday) on 2 pm

Last date for submitting online applications with late fees: 24th to 30th November, 2018 (Thursday) on 2 pm

Design Aptitude Test (DAT) Prelims on: 6th January, 2019 (Sunday)
