About College:

Institute of Nano Science and Technology (INST), Mohali (Punjab), an autonomous institution of Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, has been established under the umbrella of NANO MISSION, initiated by DST to boost research and development in the field of Nano science and Nanotechnology in India. INST started its activities on 3rd January 2013, the date on which its first Director was appointed. The institute is currently operating from its transit campus at Habitat Centre, Sector-64, Phase-X, Mohali, Punjab. The new campus of INST would be set up on 35 acers of land in the Knowledge City at Sector-81 (Mohali, Punjab), next to IISER Mohali campus, which is very near to new Chandigarh International Airport. INST, amongst other scientific institutions of Chandigarh and its nearby area is also part of Chandigarh Region Innovation and Knowledge Cluster (CRIKC), an initiative of Punjab Government to foster and sustain close academic alliances between institutions of higher education and research in the Chandigarh region.

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) [Areas: Nanoscience and Nanotechnology]

Eligibility:
M.Sc. in (Chemistry/ Physics/ Material Sciences/ Life Sciences)/ M.Pharm./ M.Tech. in Basic, Applied Sciences or Engineering and related areas

QUALIFYING EXAMINATION

GATE/ CSIR or UGC-NET/ JEST/ JGEEBILS (TIFR/ NCBS)/ ICMR-JRF/ DBT-JRF/ DST-INSPIRE/ GPAT.

Students registered with IISER Mohali for their BS-MS program can apply as per IISER Mohali’s norm.

How to Apply:

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

1.    The application form for PhD programme can be downloaded from Institute website http://inst.ac.in/careers.php

2.    The duly filled APPLICATION FORM and online SYNOPSIS

(https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd-LesA-Efu4QDsn0oqa62ev4azldHEICAKwBp0c4CNKBGM6Q/viewform?vc=0&c=0&w=1) should be sent on apply@inst.ac.in as advance copy.

The hard copy of application with the following documents should be sent to “The Director, Institute of Nano Science and Technology, Habitat Centre, Phase - 10, Sector - 64, Mohali, Punjab-160062” so as to reach on or before due date:

(a.)Photograph duly pasted on the application form.

(b.) Application fees

(c.) Self-Attested copies of Certificate in support of age, educational qualifications

(Mark Sheet, Degrees & Certificates of class X and above).

(d.) Experience certificate in case of working candidate.

(e.) Self-attested a copy in support of SC/ ST/ OBC/ PH category (Should be Valid).

3.    The envelope containing the application form should superscribe “ Application for the Ph.D. Program – August 2019”.

4.    The shortlisted candidates will be called for interview. The list of the shortlisted candidates will be uploaded on the Institute website and communication will be sent to candidates on email address given by candidate.

5.    The candidates called for interview will be paid sleeper class rail fare or Non-AC Bus Fare (on production of ticket) from place of residence to Institute and back.

6.    The candidate are advised to visit the Institute website (www.inst.ac.in) frequently to know latest developments.

APPLICATION FEES:

The aforesaid application documents should be accompanied by a Demand Draft (DD) of Rs. 450/- for General/OBC or Rs. 150/- for SC/ST/PH drawn in favor of Institute of Nano Science and Technology, Mohali (payable either at Mohali or at Chandigarh). Please mention your name on the reverse of the DD.

Applications from interested students should reach INST through Registered/ Speed Post/Courier by 10TH APRIL, 2019. Applications received after this date shall not be entertained in any case.

Award of the Degree: It may please be noted Ph.D. students registered with INST will also have to register at IISER, Mohali for their Ph.D. degree.

Course Name:

Integrated MS-PhD [Areas of Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics]

Eligibility:

The applicant should have a Bachelors degree in Science and related areas with a good academic record (at least 60% aggregate or at least CGPI 6.0 on a scale of 10).

Additional Qualifications: Applicants, who have obtained one of the following national-level qualifying examinations, are advised to mention the same in their application form:

1.    NBHM Masters or PhD scholarship for Mathematics

2.    Rank in JEST examination for Physics

3.    DST INSPIRE fellowship or KVPY scholarship

4.    Rank in IIT JAM for the chosen specialization

Course Name:

PhD [Areas of Biological Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, Physical Sciences, Earth & Environmental Sciences and Humanities & Social Sciences]

Eligibility:

The applicant should have a Masters degree/ B.Tech/ MBBS/ M.Tech with a good academic record (at least a high second class) and should be GATE/ CSIR or UGC-NET/ JEST/ NBHM-JRF/ GPAT/DBT-BINC/ICAR-NET/ICMR-JRF/ DBT-JRF/DST-INSPIRE qualified in the relevant subject.

Detailed criteria set by individual departments for PhD admissions:

Department of Biological Sciences: The applicant should have a Masters degree/B.Tech/ MBBS/ M.Tech with a good academic record (at least 60% and above) and should be GATE/CSIR or UGC-NET/ JEST/ NBHM-JRF/ GPAT/ ICMR-JRF/ DBT-JRF/DBT-BINC/ICAR-NET/DST- INSPIRE qualified in the relevant subject.

Department of Chemical Sciences: The applicant should have M. Sc./MS degree in Chemistry/ Physics or equivalent with at least 55% marks for General and OBC candidates, and 50% for SC/ST and persons with Disability (PwD), and should have a valid NET/ GATE/ DST-Inspire/equivalent national level fellowship.

Department of Mathematical Sciences: The applicant must have qualified one of the following examinations GATE/CSIR-UGC-NET/NBHM-JRF with Mathematics as the primary subject. Applicants who have obtained the DST-INSPIRE fellowship must have taken Mathematics as their primary subject during their Master's programme. Only applicants with an outstanding academic record and exceptional qualifications will be considered for admission.

Department of Physical Sciences: The applicant should have a Masters degree in Physics or a Bachelors/Masters degree in Engineering, and should have a valid GATE/ CSIR-UGC-NET-JRF/ JEST/ DST-Inspire fellowship in Physics. The student must have a good academic record in M.Sc. (minimum 55% for General and OBC category, minimum 50% for SC/ST/PD.)

Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences: The applicant should have M.Sc./ B.Tech/ M. Tech in Atmospheric Sciences/ Earth and Environmental Sciences/Geology/Chemistry/Physics/Environmental Biotechnology/Microbiology/Biotechnology and should have a valid GATE/ CSIR-UGC-NET/ DST-Inspire fellowship.

Department of Humanities and Social Sciences: The PhD applicant should have M.A./M.Sc./M.Phil degree (minimum 55% for General and OBC category, minimum 50% for SC/ST/PD.) in one or more of the following subjects: Philosophy (Ethics, Indian Philosophy, Analytical Philosophy and Philosophy of Science)/ Sociology /Anthropology/ Palaeoanthropology / Archaeology / Ancient Indian History / Modern Indian History / Urban History / Political Economy / Gender Studies /Urban Studies /English Literature/Postmodernism/ Literary Theory/Science-in-theatre or related areas such as Development Studies, South Asian studies. Apart from applying online, the applicant SHOULD send a statement of proposed research (minimum 1500 words) to the following email address: hssiisermohali@gmail.com mentioning the broad subject area (History, Literature, Philosophy etc....) as the subject of the email, failing which the application may not be considered for shortlisting. This email address is meant ONLY for sending the statement of proposed research. Having qualified UGC/NET/NET-JRF/GATE or any other national level eligibility test is required at the time of the PhD application submission. The candidates who have not qualified (including those who are awaiting results) the above mentioned national eligibility tests will not be shortlisted.
