Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Regular Full Time

Eligibility:

IA. General Eligibility Criteria for Engineering Departments (Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering)

For GEN/OBC (NC)

ONE of the following:

a) Master’s Degree in Engineering/Technology or equivalent degree with a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate OR a minimum CGPA/CPI of 6.0 on a scale of 1-10 or an equivalent to 6.0 on other corresponding proportional requirements when the scales are other than 0-10. OR First class as specified by the university

b) B. Tech/M. Sc in Engineering/Technology or equivalent degree with a minimum of 80% marks in aggregate OR a minimum CGPA/CPI of 8.0 on a scale of 1-10 or an equivalent to 8.0 on other corresponding proportional requirements when the scales are other than 0-10. AND Additional requirements as listed in section II below.

For SC/ST/PwD

ONE of the following:

c) Master’s Degree in Engineering/Technology or equivalent degree with a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate OR a minimum CGPA/CPI of 5.5 on a scale of 1-10 or an equivalent to 5.5 on other corresponding proportional requirements when the scales are other than 0-10.

d) B. Tech/M. Sc in Engineering/Technology or equivalent degree with a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate OR a minimum CGPA/CPI of 7.5 on a scale of 1-10 or an equivalent to 7.5 on other corresponding proportional requirements when the scales are other than 0-10. AND Additional requirements as listed in section II below.

IB. General Eligibility Criteria for Science Departments (Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics)

For GEN/OBC (NC): Master’s Degree in Science or equivalent degree with a minimum of 70% marks in aggregate OR First class as specified by the university OR a minimum CGPA/CPI of 6.0 on a scale of 1-10 or an equivalent to 6.0 on other corresponding proportional requirements when the scales are other than 0-10.

For SC/ST/PwD: Master’s Degree in Science or equivalent degree with a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate OR a minimum CGPA/CPI of 5.5 on a scale of 1-10 or an equivalent to 5.5 on other corresponding proportional requirements when the scales are other than 0-10.

IC. General Eligibility Criteria for Humanities & Social Sciences (HSS) Department

For GEN/OBC (NC): Master’s Degree in Arts or equivalent degree in allied subjects with a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate

For SC/ST/PwD: Master’s Degree in Arts or equivalent degree in allied subjects with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate

II. Candidates eligible in sections IA(b), IA(d), IB and IC must fulfill ONE of the following additional requirements:

i)             Valid GATE Score

ii)            Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) of CSIR/ UGC/ NBHM/ DBT/ ICAR/ ICMR/ ICPR or DST INSPIRE Fellowship

iii)           Candidates having UGC-NET Lectureship (LS) are also eligible for Teaching Assistantship in addition to other academic qualifications in Humanities & Social Sciences Department.

iv)           Minimum of 2 years of professional experience (acquired after obtaining the qualifying degree and completed before the starting of the semester in which admission is sought)

Course Name:

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) [Part Time PhD is being offered in Engineering Disciplines of Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and in School of Humanities and Social Sciences]

Eligibility:

1. Part-Time External Candidates

1.1 Candidates should be employed in

1.1.1 recognized R&D organizations (DSIR recognition or CSIR, DRDO, ICAR, DAE, DoS, DIT, DST, DBT, ICMR, ICAR, NGRI, GSI, Wadia Institute labs)

1.1.2 or companies in the private sector including financial institutions like banks

1.1.3 or Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs)

1.2 Experience and Educational Qualification Requirements

Candidates should

1.2.1 have a minimum of four (4) years of work experience at the time of application for part-time PhD, if they do not possess a master’s degree: a) Condition on preceding degree: B.Tech or equivalent for engineering with minimum first class or 60% marks or CGPA/CPI of 6.0 on a scale of 1-10 or equivalent of 6.0 on a different scale (minimum 55% for SC/ST/PWD or CGPA/CPI of 5.5 on a scale of 1-10 or equivalent of 5.5 on a different scale)

1.2.2 have a minimum of two (2) years of work experience at the time of application AND MA in humanities & social sciences or allied degrees like MBA when applying for part-time PhD in humanities & social sciences with minimum first class or 55% marks or CGPA/CPI of 5.5 on a scale of 1-10 or equivalent of 5.5 on a different scale (minimum 50% for SC/ST/PWD or CGPA/CPI of 5.0 on a scale of 1-10 or equivalent of 5.0 on a different scale); minimum of one (1) year of work experience if candidate has a MA degree followed by M.Phil.

1.2.3 have a minimum of two (2) years of work experience at the time of application for part-time PhD, if they possess a Master degree (M.Tech or equivalent for engineering with minimum first class or 60% marks or CGPA/CPI of 6.0 on a scale of 1-10 or equivalent of 6.0 on a different scale (minimum 55% for SC/ST/PWD or CGPA/CPI of 5.5 on a scale of 1-10 or equivalent of 5.5 on a different scale).

1.2.4 have a minimum of one (1) year of work experience at the time of application for parttime PhD, if their last degree (whether B.Tech or M.Tech or M.Sc or MS by Research) is from an IIT/IISER/IIIT/IISc/NIT:

1.2.4.1 with minimum first class or 60% marks or CGPA/CPI of 6.0 on a scale of 1-10 in case of M.Tech or MS by Research (minimum 55% for SC/ST/PWD or CGPA/CPI of 5.5 on a scale of 1-10); in case of MA in Humanities from IIT/IISER/IIIT/IISc/NIT with minimum first class or 55% marks or CGPA/CPI of 5.5 on a scale of 1-10 or equivalent of 5.5 on a different scale (minimum 50% for SC/ST/PWD or CGPA/CPI of 5.0 on a scale of 1-10 or equivalent of 5.0 on a different scale)

1.2.4.2 with minimum 80% marks or CGPA/CPI of 8.0 on a scale of 1-10 (minimum 75% for SC/ST/PWD or CGPA of 7.5 on a scale of 1-10) in case of B.Tech or M.Sc.

1.2.5 have a minimum of one (1) year of work experience if employed as per Sub-Section 1.1.1 and have minimum first class or 60% marks or CGPA/CPI of 6.0 on a scale of 1- 10 or equivalent of 6.0 on a different scale (minimum 55% for SC/ST/PWD or CGPA/CPI of 5.5 on a scale of 1-10 or equivalent of 5.5 on a different scale) in their last qualifying degree in Engineering ; in case of Humanities, 55% marks or CGPA/CPI of 5.5 on a scale of 1-10 or equivalent of 5.5 on a different scale in MA or allied degrees (minimum 50% for SC/ST/PWD or CGPA/CPI of 5.0 on a scale of 1-10 or equivalent of 5.0 on a different scale)

1.3 Fulfillment of GATE requirement may be waived for such candidates depending on prior academic performance and employment experience. However, they may be asked to take a written test.

1.4 Candidates will be asked to appear for an interview before a selection committee.

1.5 The candidate should submit at the time of application, a Sponsorship Certificate from the organization in which he / she is employed giving an undertaking

1.5.1 that the candidate would be allowed to fulfill the coursework requirement and qualifier examination

1.5.2 that leave would be granted for the same and the candidate will be allowed to attend the lectures, labs etc. as per the academic schedule of IIT Goa. Where leave is granted, it would typically be required for two semesters to fulfill coursework requirement. IIT Goa will provide the format for Employer’s Letter (Appendix A)

2. Part-Time Sponsored Candidates

2.1 Candidates should be employed in AND sponsored by

2.1.1 recognized R&D organizations (DSIR recognition or CSIR, DRDO, ICAR, DAE, DoS, DIT, DST, DBT, ICMR, ICAR, NGRI, GSI, Wadia Institute labs)

2.1.2 or companies in the private sector including financial institutions like banks

2.1.3 or Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs)

2.2 Experience and Educational Qualification Requirements

As per Sub-section 1.2

2.3 Candidates should be engaged in professional work related to the area of research discipline applied for in part-time PhD

2.4 Fulfillment of GATE requirement may be waived for such candidates depending on prior academic performance and employment experience. However, they may be asked to take a written test.

2.5 Candidates will be asked to appear for an interview before a selection committee.

2.6 The candidate should submit at the time of application, a Sponsor’s Letter from the organization in which he / she is employed. The sponsoring organization will give an undertaking:

2.6.1 that the candidate will be paid full salary during the PhD program AND would be allowed to fulfill the coursework requirement and qualifier examination

2.6.2 that leave would be granted for the same and the candidate will be allowed to attend the lectures, labs etc. as per the academic schedule of IIT Goa. Where leave is granted, it would typically be required for two semesters to fulfill coursework requirement. IIT Goa will provide the format for Sponsor’s Letter (Appendix B)

2.7 A co-supervisor (must hold PhD degree) at the employing organization needs to be identified. Meetings between co-supervisor and supervisor at IIT Goa should be held at least once in a year.

2.8 Appropriate facilities should exist to carry out the planned research work at the employing organization.

2.    For New Registration Click on New User Registration.

3.    Fill valid email ID.

4.    Fill the branch applying for (Seperate application for different branch).

5.    Please click on SUBMIT, you will be redirected to login page.

6.    Please login to the Portal.

7.    Candidates are required to fill details as given in the form and save the form.

8.    Candidate is required to upload recent Photograph (Maximum 12KB), scanned copy of Signature (Maximum 12KB), detailed CV and Marksheets as per eligibility (Maximum 400KB).

9.    In CV mention the projects done (bachelors and masters) and awards/recognition you have received.

10.The system will not allow submitting the application without filling payment details.

11.Please fill proper Payment Details carefully; once filled cannot be edited.

12.After filling all details, please Preview and Submit your application form. After Final Submit, the system will not allow any further editing.
