About College:

The Ministry of Human Resources Development, Govt. of India vide its order no. F. 23-13-2009-TS-III Dated 30th of Oct. 2009 and 3rd March 2010, had decided to set up ten new NITs. In view of the above NIT Mizoram was started in the year 2010 in the state of Mizoram with an objective to impart education, research & training leading to B.Tech, M.Tech & PhD. degrees. This institute has been declared as an Institute of National Importance by an Act of Parliament. Here the students are admitted through All India Entrance Exam- Joint Entrance Exam (JEE Main). NIT Mizoram is an Institute situated in the scenic beauty of Mizoram, wrapped between clouds and mountain rocks, which adds to its beauty. Being amongst the most educated states of our country with a literacy rate of 91%, it beholds a very peaceful and calm environment suitable for studies. The Institute, to cope with the present competitive needs, comprises of laboratories with the latest equipments and installed with best & latest softwares.

Course Name:

Ph.D Part time (Visvesvaraya Ph.D Scheme) [Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering]

Eligibility:

(i) M.Tech / M.E. degree in Microelectronics / VLSI or equivalent in an appropriate area with minimum 60 % marks or 6.5 CGPA.

(ii) B.Tech. /B.E. degree in Electronics & Communication Engineering/ Computer science & engineering with minimum 60 % marks or 6.5 CGPA.

Preference will be given to GATE qualified candidates.

***For SC/ST candidates, there is a relaxation of 0.5 CGPA or 5% of marks.

Incentive: One time incentive of ` 2.5 lakhs at the time of successful completion of PhD degree.

How to Apply:

Application form can be downloaded from Institute website. Self-attested copies of necessary supporting documents and a demand draft (of Rs. 200 for General/OBC, Rs. 100 for SC/ST); drawn in favour of “Director, NIT Mizoram” payable at SBI, Bawngkawn Branch, Aizawl should be attached with filled in application form. Application form complete in all respects should reach Dr. Chaitali Koley, Chief Investigator (SMDP-C2SD), NIT Mizoram, Chaltlang (Dawrkawn), Aizawl, Mizoram – 796012 by 19/06/2018 super-scribing “Application for admission into Visvesvaraya Ph.D program (Part-Time)” on the envelope. Institute will not be responsible for any postal/otherwise delay. Candidates are advised to mention their contact no. & e-mail id(s) in the application forms. Names of the short-listed candidates for attending test/interview shall be made available in the Institute’s website or may be intimated by e-mail. The academic session is likely to start from 2nd week of August, 2019. List of finally selected candidates shall be published on Institute website.

Course Name:

Ph.D. [Civil Engg., Computer Science & Engg., Electronics & Communication Engg. Electrical & Electronics Engg., Mechanical Engg., Basic Sciences & HSS, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English]

Eligibility:

Ph.D. in Engineering: Masters Degree in the area of Engineering/Technology from a recognized University/ Institute with a minimum CGPA of 6.5 in 10 point scale or 60 % of marks in the qualifying examinations.

OR

Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology in a relevant area with a minimum CGPA of 7.5 or 70% of marks and with a valid GATE score.

Ph.D. in Science (Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics): Masters Degree in the area of Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics from a recognized University/ Institute with a minimum CGPA of 6.5 in 10 point scale or 60 % of marks in the qualifying examinations and qualify the NET examination conducted by CSIR or with a valid GATE score.

Ph.D. in HSS (English): Masters Degree in the area of English from a recognized University/ Institute with a minimum CGPA of 6.0 in 10 point scale or 55 % of marks in the qualifying examinations and qualify the NET examination conducted by UGC.

*For SC/ST candidates, there is a relaxation of 0.5 CGPA or 5% of marks.

*Conversion from CGPA to percentage or vice-versa shall not be allowed.

CATEGORIES OF Ph.D. STUDENTS

The Institute admits Ph.D. students under the following categories:

REGULAR

A student in this category works full-time for his/her Ph.D. degree. He/she receives assistantship from the Institute or fellowship from any recognized funding agency depending on GATE/NET (UGC/CSIR)/other qualification.

SELF-FINANCED

A student in this category works full-time or part-time towards the Ph.D. Programme. The Institute does not provide any assistantship/fellowship to such a student.

PROJECT-STAFF

This category refers to a student who is working on a sponsored project in the Institute and is admitted to the Ph.D. Programme to work on a full-time basis. The remaining duration of the project at the time of admission should be at least one year. If the project gets completed before the student completes his/her Ph.D. Programme, his/her category will be converted to that of Self-Financed category.

PART-TIME

A student in this category is a professionally employed person, who pursues the Ph.D. Programme while continuing the duties of his/her service in NIT Mizoram or elsewhere. The Institute does not provide any assistantship/fellowship to such a student

·         Self-attested copies of necessary supporting documents and a demand draft (of Rs. 200/- for General/OBC OR Rs. 100/- for SC/ST); drawn in favour of “Registrar, NIT Mizoram” payable at SBI, Bawngkawn Branch, Aizawl should be attached with filled in application form. Payment of application fees can also be made online in favour of “Registrar, NIT Mizoram”. Transaction ID should be clearly mentioned in the Application Form.

·         Women candidates are exempted from the payment of application fee.

·         Candidates who were shortlisted against the Advt. No. NITMZ/ACAD(7)/Ph.D.(EVEN)/2018; dated 29th November 2018 are exempted from the payment of application fee.

·         The required document is to be furnished along with the application by candidates applying under Project Fellow and Part-time categories.

·         Form II: No objection certificate from the Institute (for Project Staff category).

·         Form III: No objection certificate from the employer (for Part-Time Category).

·         Form V: No objection certificate (for NIT Mizoram Employee – Part-Time Category).

·         Candidates should prepare the above forms (Form II/III/V) only in the prescribed format (provided in the PhD Regulations of the Institute). No other format will be accepted.

Closing Date:

Receipt of the soft copy of filled-in application form and the supporting documents by email: 6th June, 2019 up to 5:00 PM.

Submission of hard copy of application and the supporting documents, verification of the documents: 28th June, 2019, 9.00 AM onwards

Date of written test and Interview for eligible candidates: 28th June, 2019 (after verification of original documents)
