About College:

National Power Training Institute, Southern Region is one of the 9(Nine) Institutes under National Power Training Institute, a Registered Society functioning with the grant-in-aid from Ministry of Power, Government of India. National Power Training Institute, Southern Region, Neyveli is the very first Power Training Institute in the country. It was started in 1965 as Steam Power Station Personnel Training Institute later renamed as Thermal Power Station Personnel Training Institute under the erstwhile Central Water Power Commission. The objective of setting-up of this Training Institute was to provide a centralized facility for training the engineers of Thermal Power Stations which were coming up in the country during that time. Neyveli was chosen for setting up this Institute as six Thermal units of 300 MW were commissioned and units for another 300MW were under construction at that time at Neyveli as a turn-key project by Russians.

Course Name:

Post-Diploma Course in Power Plant Engineering (PDPPE) 20^th Batch

Eligibility:

Should have passed a Diploma in Mechanical /Electrical/ Electrical & Electronics / Electronics & Communication/ Control & Instrumentation/Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering from a recognized Polytechnic/Board.

SELECTION CRITERIA FOR ADMISSION: Merit based on Diploma marks. No age limit. Reservation for SC/ST/OBC/PH is applicable as per Govt. norms.

TOTAL SEATS: 77 (Seventy seven seats). 25% seats for Sponsored candidates. For admissions under sponsored category, candidate has to provide sponsorship letter. Vacant seats in sponsored category shall be filled by non-sponsored candidates. Sponsored candidates will not be considered for campus placement.

PLACEMENT: To provide career opportunities in the Indian Power Sector, NPTI maintains close linkages with Power Utilities and reputed companies for employment of these trained Diploma engineers. Students of previous batches were placed in reputed Power companies. However NPTI does not guarantee placement.

About College:

The Annamalai University is a unitary, teaching, and residential university. It was founded by the munificence of the farsighted and noble hearted philanthropist and patron of letters the late Hon’ble Dr. Rajah Sir Annamalai Chettiar of Chettinad, Kt, LL.D., D.Litt. He started several colleges, and ultimately, the University in 1929. Since its inception, it has progressively tried to realize the aims of the noble Founder Pro-Chancellor. After him, his illustrious son, Padma Bhushan Dr. Rajah Sir Muthiah Chettiar of Chettinad, was the Pro-Chancellor from 1948 to 1984, and he sedulously nurtured the growth and development of the University. The University has had the unique good fortune of having a succession of eminent Vice-Chancellors to guide its destinies. During the last eighty two years the University has grown rapidly and has consolidated its position as a unitary and residential University with forty-nine Departments of Study and over 3240 members on its teaching staff. Annamalainagar is already a busy and full-fledged University town, east of Chidambaram, the abode of Lord Nataraja. Eligibility:

General Eligibility

For admission to the M.Phil.programme, a candidate has to fulfill the following minimum qualifications:

Note: For all the Candidates who have passed Master’s Degree through Open University system are not eligible to apply; however, candidates who have secured their Master’s Degree under (11 + 1) or (10 + 2) +3 +2, and (10 + 2) + 5 pattern of courses of study are eligible

·         A relaxation of 5% of marks from 55% to 50% or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer) / differently Abled or for those who had obtained their master’s degree prior to 16th September, 1991. The eligibility marks of 55% (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) and the relaxation of 5% to the categories mentioned above are permissible based only on the qualifying marks without including the grace mark procedures.

·         Teachers of Annamalai University who have put in two years of service are eligible to register for M.Phil. (Part-time) degree as per eligibility norms. Such applicants should send completed applications to the Registrar through proper channel.

Note: While granting admission to M.Phil. Programmes, due attention shall be paid to the State Reservation Policy.

Admission to Foreign Students

Students who have obtained their Master’s Degree or equivalent outside the Indian Universities system are eligible for admission to M.Phil. Programme.

·         Foreign Students selected under various scholarship schemes, either by the Ministry of Education and Culture or the Ministry of External Affairs, will be given admission on the recommendations/sponsorship of the respective Ministry

·         Self-supporting foreign students seeking admission should possess a Research VISAissued by the Indian Embassies abroad and produce a No Objection Certificate from the Ministry of Education, Government of India, after clearance from the Ministry of External Affairs.

Course Name:

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) [Full time/Part time-internal/external (on Campus)]

Eligibility:

For admission to the Ph.D. programme, a candidate has to fulfill the following minimum qualifications:

Faculties of Arts, Science, Marine Sciences, Indian Languages, Engineering &  Technology, Education, Fine Arts, Medicine (Nursing & Physiotherapy only)

A pass in Master’s Degree with a minimum of 55% of marks or equivalent Grade Point Average (GPA) or in an examination recognized as equivalent thereto.

Faculties of Medicine and Dentistry (except Nursing & Physiotherapy)

A Pass in Master’s Degree with 50% of marks in the concerned subject.

·         Candidates who have passed Master’s Degree through Open University system are not eligible to apply; however, candidates who have secured their Master’s Degree under (11+1) or (10+2) + 3 + 2 / (10+2)+4+2 / (10+3)+3+2 / (10+2) + 5 pattern of programmes of study are eligible.

Degree programme shall be eligible to proceed to do research work leading to the Ph.D. Degree in the same Institution in an integrated programme. A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for these belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/differently abled and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time. 

·         Preference will be given to candidates who have passed the UGC JRF / NET / SET (SLET) / Lecturership / GATE / CSIR / ICAR / ICSSR or other fellowship related examinations. 

·         While granting admission to Ph.D. Programmes, due attention shall be paid to the State Reservation Policy.
