Central Scientific Instruments Organisation (CSIO), a constituent unit of Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR), is a premier national laboratory dedicated to research, design and development of scientific and industrial instruments. It is a multi-disciplinary and multi-dimensional apex industrial research & development organisation in the country to stimulate growth of Instrument Industry in India covering wide range and applications.

PhD (Sciences)

Eligibility:

PhD (Sciences) Candidates with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering/ Technology, Medicine or Master's degree in Science with a keen sense of scientific enquiry for pursuing advanced research in frontier areas of Biological, Chemical, Physical and Mathematical & Information Sciences leading to a Ph.D. degree. The candidate should be having a valid National level fellowship (JRF/SRF of various funding agencies, e.g. CSIR, UGC, DBT, DST etc.), INSPIRE or other equivalent fellowships. Project Assistants, Senior Research Fellows and CSIR Scientists are also eligible to apply (as per AcSIR Ordinance No. 4(5)).

Direct PhD (Sciences)

Eligibility:

Direct PhD (Sciences) Undergraduate degree in Science or allied subjects with at least 8.5 and/or 1 st rank holder in University/ Institution. Possible funding sources for students are INSPIRE, CSIR-JRF, CSIR-UGC-NET or other equivalent national fellowships.

Sponsored PhD (Sciences)

Eligibility:

Sponsored PhD (Sciences) Regular: Master’s degree in Science* Direct: Undergraduate degree in Science or allied subjects with at least 8.5 and/or 1 st rank holder in University/ Institution*.

Applicants qualifying their degree in percentage shall use the formula, CGPA=(Percentage + 5) /10. Applicants with percentage ≥ 95%, shall fill 10 CGPA.

Course Name:

PhD (Engineering)

Eligibility:

I. A Master’s degree in Engineering or Technology following a four-year engineering/technology or 4/5 year science degree; or an integrated minimum-5-year M Tech degree; or equivalent and

II. At least one of the following

a) Awarded a national-level fellowship (such as NET JRF) tenable at CSIR institutes

b) Meeting all the conditions required for eligibility for the CSIR-SRF

c) Meeting all the conditions for award of the INSPIRE fellowship (typically awarded to students ranked first in the University)

d) Meeting all the conditions stipulated by AcSIR for Project Assistants to register for a PhD

e) Meeting all the conditions stipulated by AcSIR for industry-sponsored* students.

Course Name:

Integrated M.Tech-PhD Program

Eligibility:

I. A 4-year undergraduate degree in Engineering or Science (such as BE/B.Tech/BS), or a five year degree in Science (such as MSc), or equivalent. and

II. At least one of the following

a) Awarded a national-level fellowship (such as NET JRF) tenable at CSIR institutes

b) Meeting all the conditions required for eligibility for the CSIR-GATE-JRF

c) Meeting all the conditions for award of the INSPIRE fellowship (typically awarded to students ranked first in the University)

d) Meeting all the conditions stipulated by AcSIR for Project Assistants to register for a PhD

e) Meeting all the conditions stipulated by AcSIR for industry-sponsored* students.

* with endorsement from Industry, Academic or Research Institutes for required academic leave and financial support during program.

These are only minimum quality yardsticks of eligibility for consideration for admission and bear no relationship with financial assistance or scholarship. Any stipend, scholarship or financial source for study would be the sole responsibility of the student. AcSIR itself does not provide any such scholarship or have any rule in these matters.
