About College:

Sikkim Theatre Training Centre is the first outside Delhi centre of the National School of Drama. Situated in a lush green picturesque valley of Gangtok, the Centre imparts year-long extensive training in theatre. The first phase of the course is devoted to training & grooming of the participants in which Yoga, Movement, Martial Arts, Voice & Speech, Music, Western drama, Classical and Modern Indian Drama and various methods of Acting are covered. The Second Phase focuses on Technical training, Scenic Design, Lighting, Make-up and other aspects of theatre. Whereas in the third phase, the participants experience a series of professional tours in and around Sikkim and other places of India which provide them ample opportunities to open up and know different cultures, peoples & territories. In 2012, the Centre has started its Repertory Company in which students from the last year’s training programme were selected as artists.

Course Name:

Residential Certificate Course in Dramatic Arts

Duration: 1 Year

Eligibility:

Essential Qualifications:

1. Graduation from any recognized University.

2. Working knowledge of Hindi & English.

Age Limit: As on 1 July 2020 Minimum 18 years Maximum 30 years.

Selection: An Expert Committee constituted by the Centre will assess the aptitude and talent of the candidates & its decision will be final.

Medium of Instruction: Hindi & English.

Centre for TEST/ AUDITION: Interview/ Audition will be conducted at Sikkim and Guwahati. No TA/DA will be provided for the interview.

Financial Assistance: All selected students will be given scholarship of Rs.4, 500/-pm to meet their academic and other expenses.

Physical Fitness: The Students selected for admission will have to undergo a medical test for physical fitness at NSD, Sikkim, Gangtok. Their final selection is subject to clearance of the fitness test.

How to Apply:

Applicants need to send 10+2 mark sheet & pass certificate, graduation marks sheets & Degree, address proof, caste certificate, four recent passport size photographs non-refundable & experience certificate of theatre (if any, otherwise it is not mandatory) should be attached to the application form. Applicant will have to appear for interview on their own cost. The applicant needs to send Rs 150/- Demand Draft in favour of National School of Drama, Sikkim Centre, payable at Gangtok. Application forms can also be downloaded from the website. The duly filled up application form must be sent along with the Demand Draft of Rs 150/- to National School of Drama, Sikkim Centre. Application forms without DD/Pay order will not be entertained.

About College:

The National School of Drama is one of the foremost theatre training institutions in the world and the only one of its kind in India. It was set up by the Sangeet Natak Akademi as one of its constituent units in 1959. In 1975, it became an independent entity and was registered as an autonomous organization under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860, fully financed by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. Training in the School is highly intensive and is based on a thorough, comprehensive, carefully planned syllabus which covers every aspect of theatre and in which theory is related to practice. As a part of their training, students are required to produce plays which are then performed before the public. The syllabus takes into account the methods of great theatre personalities who have shaped contemporary theatre in all its variety. The systematic study and practical performing experience of Sanskrit drama, modern Indian drama, traditional Indian theatre forms, Asian drama and western dramatic protocols give the students a solid grounding and a wide perspective in the art of theatre.

Course Name:

Diploma in Dramatic Arts (DDA)

Duration: 3 Years

Eligibility:

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

1) Graduation in any subject from a recognized University in India or Abroad.

2) Participation in at least 6 different theatre productions with attached document proof of the theatre experience i.e. certificate of participation, brochure, leaflet, newspaper clips etc.

3) Working knowledge of Hindi / English.

4) Recommendation letter from at-least one Theatre Expert,

AGE LIMIT as on 1.7.2020 Minimum 18 years Maximum 30 years

The upper age limit is relaxable for reserved category candidates as per GOI rules (5 years for SC / ST).

Medium of instruction: Hindi / English

RESERVATION FOR SC/ST/OBC (Non Creamy Layer)/ PwD:

Out of 26 seats, 4 seats are reserved for candidates belonging to the scheduled castes; 2 seats are reserved for scheduled tribes; 7 seats are reserved for OBC (Non Creamy Layer as notified by the Government) and reservation for PwD and others as per Govt. of India rules.

SELECTION:

The selection is a two phase process. The candidate should appear for a preliminary examination and if selected then has to appear for a final examination workshop.

CENTRES FOR PRELIMINARY TEST/AUDITION AND FINAL WORKSHOP:

A preliminary test/audition will be conducted during May/June, 2020 in twelve centers i.e. Delhi, Jaipur, Lucknow, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Patna, Guwahati, Bhubaneshwar, Kolkata. The candidates will be intimated about date of the preliminary interview through email and it will be also available in NSD website during March/April, 2020.

Study Material and guidelines for preliminary test/ audition will be available in the website during March/April, 2020.

The candidates qualifying in this test will have to attend a workshop of 5 days in the School premises, New Delhi in June or July, 2020, for their final selection for which they will be paid D.A. and sleeper class train / bus fare from the place of their residence to Delhi & back by the shortest route, on submission of ticket / cash receipt and will also be provided accommodation on modest sharing basis.

An Expert Committee constituted by the School will assess the aptitude and talent of the candidates & its decision will be final. Any CANVASSING in this regard will be treated as a disqualification. The School reserves the right to shortlist number of candidates for audition/preliminary interview on the basis of its own evaluation of the candidates in theatre and allied arts.

FINANCIALASSISTANCE:

All selected students will be given a monthly scholarship of Rs. 8000/- p.m. to meet their academic and related expenses.

PHYSICALFITNESS:

The students selected for admission will be required to undergo a medical test for physical fitness at NSD Delhi. Their final selection is subject to clearance of the fitness test.

Application fee of Rs 50/- is to be paid online through Net Banking, Credit Card or Debit Card. Last date of submission of online application is 28/02/2020.

Option 2): To receive the application form and prospectus (in English & Hindi) by post, please write to The Dean Academics, National School of Drama, Bahawalpur House, Bhagwandas Road, New Delhi – 110001 along with a crossed Demand Draft/Pay Order, payable at Delhi, of Rs. 225/- (Rupees Two Hundred Twenty Five Only) including postal charges in favour of Director, National School of Drama, New Delhi. Request for receiving the application form by post must reach the School by 10/02/2020

Offline application forms duly filled in & complete in all respects must reach To Dean Academic, National School of Drama, Bahawalpur House, Bhagwandas Road, New Delhi – 110001 on or before 28/02/2020. No application form will be entertained after the last date in any circumstances.
