The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) was conceived as a ´Research Institute´ or ´University of Research´ by Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata, in the final years of the 19th century. A long period of almost thirteen years was to elapse from the initial conception in 1896 to the birth of the institute on May 27, 1909. The early history of the Institute is a fascinating chapter in the story of higher education and scientific research in India. *The GATE score should be valid as on January 1, 2020. Candidates securing the valid GATE score for the years 2017/2018/2019 may apply.

** NET JRF includes - CSIR-UGC NET for JRF; UGC-NET for JRF; DBT JRF; ICMR JRF; JEST; NBHM Screening test 2019; INSPIRE.

Short-listing is based either on performance in national entrance tests or on the academic performance in the qualifying degree examination as per the table above. The final selection is based on the performance in an interview (in some of the departments, a written test will precede the interview).

(Note that candidates who were called for the interview held in May 2019 in any one of the above mentioned departments are also eligible to apply again. And the cut-off remains the same as fixed for August 2019 admissions)

Reservation for OBC/EWS/SC/ST/Persons with disability (PwD) and Kashmiri-Migrant (KM) candidates: As per the Government of India regulations. Grade/class of qualifying examination is relaxed to a “pass class” for SC/ST candidates.

The saga of Indian coffee began on a humble note, with planting of ‘Seven seeds’ of ‘Mocha’ during 1600 AD by the legendary holy saint Baba Budan, in the courtyard of his hermitage on ‘Baba Budan Giris’ in Karnataka. For quite a considerable period, the plants remained as a garden curiosity and spread slowly as back yard plantings. It was during 18th century that the commercial plantations of coffee were started, thanks to the success of British entrepreneurs in conquering the hostile forest terrain in south India. Since then, Indian coffee industry has made rapid strides and earned a distinct identity in the coffee map of the world.
