Merit Reckoning and Selection Procedure

Written Test and Personal Interview: Merit for admissions will be based on the total marks obtained in the entrance exam. The candidate has to appear for all the three sections - Written Test: comprising of Aptitude test + creative writing, and Personal Interview to qualify for the Merit List.

·         Computer Science and Engineering: BE/BTech/MTech/ME in CS/EC/EE with 65% marks (60% for SC/ST/PD) or 6.5 (6.0 for SC/ST/PD) CPI/CGPA on the scale of 10 OR MSc in Mathematics/Physics/Bioinformatics or related areas with 1st class or 65% marks (60% for SC/ST/PD) or 6.5 (6.0 for SC/ST/PD) CPI/CGPA on the scale of 10 and strong interest in computer science and engineering.

·         Humanities and Social Sciences: 55% (50% for SC/ST) or 5.5 (5.0 for SC/ST/PD) CPI/CGPA on the scale of 10 in: MA or equivalent. OR 60% (55% for SC/ST/PD) or 6.0 (5.5 for SC/ST) CPI/CGPA on the scale of 10 in BTech/MTech/MSc or equivalent.

·         Earth Sciences: MSc (Geology, Earth Sciences, Geophysics, Environmental Sciences, Remote Sensing, Geography or related subjects) with 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PD) or a CPI/CGPA of 6.0 (5.5 for SC/ST/PD) out of 10. Must be CSIR-NET, INSPIRE fellowship or GATE qualified OR M.Tech./M.Phil. (Geology, Earth Sciences, Geophysics, Environmental Sciences, Remote Sensing/GIS/Geomatics, Hydrology or related subjects) with 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PD) / CPI/CGPA of 6.0 (5.5 for SC/ST/PD) out of 10.

·         Electrical Engineering: First Class or 65% marks (60% for SC/ST/PD) or 6.5(6.0 for SC/ST/PD) CPI/CGPA on the scale of 10 in: BE/BTech/ME/MTech or Equivalent degree in the broad area of Electrical and/or Electronics engineering, OR BE/BTech/ME/MTech or Equivalent degree in other branches of Engineering may be considered in areas consistent with the research areas of the discipline, OR MSc in disciplines consistent with the research areas of the discipline.

·         Mechanical Engineering: First Class or 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PD) or 6.0 (5.5 for SC/ST/PD) CPI/CGPA on the scale of 10 in: BTech/MTech or equivalent degree in Mechanical Engineering OR BTech/MTech degree or equivalent in Chemical Engineering / Electrical Engineering / Production Engineering / Industrial Engineering/ Aerospace Engineering OR BTech/ MTech Degree in other branches of Engineering / Technology with an outstanding academic record may also be considered for research areas consistent with their academic background and special interests of the discipline.

·         Materials Science and Engineering: First Class or 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PD) or 6.0 (5.5 for SC/ST/PD) CPI/CGPA on the scale of 10 in: BE/BTech/MTech/MS or equivalent degree in Materials Science/ Metallurgical/Mechanical/Manufacturing/Electrical/Electronics Engineering/Physics/ Chemistry/ Biotechnology.

·         Mathematics: M.A./M.Sc. in Mathematics with at least First Class or 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PD) or 6.0 (5.5 for SC/ST/PD) CPI/CGPA on the scale of 10 OR BE/BTech with at least 60% (55% for SC/ST/PD) or 6.0 (5.5 for SC/ST) CPI/CGPA will be considered.

·         Physics: MSc (in Physics, Applied Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Comp. Science) or MTech (in related areas of Physics) or BE/BTech in Engineering Physics with 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PD) or a CPI/CGPA of 6.0 out of 10.0 (5.5/10.0 for SC/ST/PD candidates). MA In Society and Culture

Eligibility:

Minimum Eligibility Requirements

The minimum criterion to apply is a bachelor’s degree in any discipline with a minimum of 55% marks (or equivalent CPI/GPA). Please note that meeting the minimum application criterion will not guarantee admission to the program. The students who are awaiting final semester/year results and those who would be completing Bachelor’s degree in the academic year 2018-2019 are also eligible to apply. Eligibility requirements for SC/ST/OBC candidates will be in accordance to the UGC/Supreme Court guidelines. The short-listing of the applications will be based on the overall credentials (marks in the qualifying examinations, academic achievements and aptitude for the study of society and culture, etc). The eligibility criteria mentioned above are minimum expectations and the committee may use higher cut-off levels for shortlisting.

Financial Support

Eligible candidates admitted to the M.A. program will receive a monthly scholarship of Rs. 5,000/-. The stipend support will be renewed per semester subject to a student’s continued satisfactory progress in the program.

MSc Cognitive Science

Minimum Eligibility Criteria

Students who have a Bachelor’s degree (e.g. B.A., B.Sc., B.Tech, BCom, MBBS) in any discipline with a minimum of 55% (5.5 CGPA for students with letter grades/CGPA) aggregate marks for General/OBC category candidates and at least 50% (5.0 CGPA for students with letter grades/CGPA) aggregate marks for SC, ST and PD category candidates in the qualifying degree, are eligible to apply for admission to the Master’s program in Cognitive Science.
