About College:

Until 1936, when Odisha was made into a separate province, all its colleges were under the jurisdiction of either Patna University or Andhra University. Subsequently, the government of Odisha, headed by Shri Biswanath Dash, the then Prime Minister; appointed a committee on 2nd March 1938 with Pandit Nilakantha Das as its Chairman to examine the possibility of establishing a separate university in Odisha. Then, during the premiership of Maharaja Krushna Chandra Gajapati, who played a pioneering role in the establishment of the University, the recommendations of this committee were made available. Pandit Godavarish Mishra, the then Minister of Education, introduced the Utkal University Bill, which was passed by the Odisha Legislative Assembly on 30th June 1943. On receiving the Governor's assent on 2nd August 1943, the Utkal University Act, 1943 came into force, clearing the way for the foundation of Utkal University on 27th November 1943. The University started functioning from this date in room no. 15 of Ravenshaw College, Cuttack.

·         In case of OTP code not came to your Mobile no , Click on the Resend OTP option.

Payment Procedure:

1.    After successful payment through Net Banking or Credit/Debit Card using SBI E-Pay, you will get an e-Receipt generated immediately from the System containing a reference number. The reference number starts with followed by 8 digits which you will have to provide while submitting the Online Application Form.

2.    The reference number starts with 19 followed by 8 digits which you will have to provide while submitting the Online Application Form.

3.    After making a successful payment you will receive Login ID & password on your Mobile Phone and email ID immediately within 10 minutes.

If the same is not received within 10-15 minutes, please drop a mail mentioning your application ID and payment details to Helpdesk.

Submission of Hard Copy:

1.    Login with your Application ID and Password.

2.    Submit the filled in print out of the application form with your signature along with all the relevant documents (Certificate/Marksheets) to the concerned Department of the University at the time of Admission.

The Institute of Life Sciences (ILS) located in Bhubaneswar has been brought under the fold of the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India in August 2002. The institute was earlier under the administrative and financial control of Department of Science and Technology, Government of Orissa. Prime minister of India dedicated the institute to the nation on July 15, 2003 with a declaration to develop as a "National Centre for Excellence". 1.    Candidates should have passed their M.Sc./ M.Tech./ M.Pharm./ M.V.Sc. or equivalent qualification in life sciences and allied subjects (Biochemistry/ Biotechnology/ Bioinformatics/ Biophysics/ Chemistry/ Microbiology, etc.) with minimum of 60% marks (or equivalent grade point). Eligibility:

·         Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Architecture/Planning or Master’s degree in Geography/Economics/Sociology with at least 55% marks in aggregate from a recognized University can apply. ·         Candidates from any other disciplines with at least 60% marks in aggregate and with a demonstrable experience and interest in Urban and Regional Planning may also apply.

Selection Process

The short-listed candidates will be called for Writing Ability Test, Group Discussion and Personal Interview, which will be held in Bangalore, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Mumbai Candidates will have to meet their own travel expenses for appearing in the Interview session. The final selection will be made on the basis of the candidate’s performance in the Writing Ability Test, Group Discussion and Personal Interview (which factors in the past academic record and relevant work experience). Fill up the Personal Details, Academic Details, Professional Details, choose the program/s you want to apply for and the respective test option/s, upload your photo & signature and Submit. (You may keep ready the scanned/digital images of your photo/signature in JPEG format, in advance. The dimensions of photo may be of about 200×250 pixels, and the signature may be of about 250×125 pixels, both images within 50 kb each in size).

On 28th August 2006, the Prime Minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh announced for the establishment of the National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER) at Bhubaneswar, which will be operated under the umbrella of Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) of Govt. of India. He announced that theNISER will facilitate the synergy between research and higher education in science. He had stated categorically that NISER will be compared with the best institutions in the country in terms of facilities and faculty.The Atomic Energy Commission, in its 182nd meeting held on 16.03.2007 approved the proposal for establishment of NISER at Bhubaneswar. Eligibility:

Biological Sciences:

60% or equivalent GPA in Masters or M.Tech in any branches of Biology, Life Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, Veterinary Sciences, Computer Sciences, Bioinformatics and Biotechnology. Students with Master’s degree in Physics, Chemistry or Mathematics having interest in pursuing a career in Biology are also encouraged to apply.

Candidates applying for admission in School of Biological Sciences should have qualified at least one National Level Exam with fellowship (CSIR-NET, DST INSPIRE, DBT, ICMR or any other equivalent) and must have valid fellowship certificate for the year 2019 at the time of application. Fellowship certificate/award letter must be submitted at the time of application.

Chemical Sciences:

60% or equivalent GPA in Masters in Chemistry or allied fields. Student with Master’s degree in any branches of Basic Sciences or M.Tech in Applied Chemistry or Computer Sciences with interest in pursuing career in Chemistry are also encouraged to apply.

Candidates applying for admission in School of Chemical Sciences, Humanities & Social Sciences and Computer Sciences should have qualified at least one of these national level examinations i.e. CSIR-UGC NET/GATE/JEST/INSPIRE (Doctoral fellowship under AORC Scheme with fellowship) or any other equivalent national level examination, valid for the current year in the relevant area of research.

Physical Sciences:

60% or equivalent GPA in Master’s degree cumulatively till the last year/semester examination appeared in M.Sc majoring in Physics or M.E./M.Tech in Applied Physics.

Candidates applying for admission in School of Physical Sciences should have qualified at least one National Level Exam i.e CSIR-UGC NET/GATE/JEST or any other equivalent national level examination valid for the current year.

Humanities and Social Sciences:

55% or equivalent GPA in Masters in Social Sciences and allied disciplines.

# Candidates with GPA need to produce the conversion note (in case it is not mentioned in their mark sheet) from their institution towards calculation of percentage.

Computer Sciences:

60% or equivalent GPA in Masters in Computer Science, Electrical, Electronics Engineering or related fields, or Mathematics.

How to apply:

·         The application form has to be filled up online on the website and candidates should follow stepwise instructions mentioned to complete the application submission process. At the time of application, along with this online form, the candidate should upload soft copy of the supporting documents as per the eligibility criteria.

·         Candidates intending to apply for more than one school should fill up online application forms for each school and submit separate forms with appropriate supporting documents.

About College:

Until 1936, when Odisha was made into a separate province, all its colleges were under the jurisdiction of either Patna University or Andhra University. Subsequently, the government of Odisha, headed by Shri Biswanath Dash, the then Prime Minister; appointed a committee on 2nd March 1938 with Pandit Nilakantha Das as its Chairman to examine the possibility of establishing a separate university in Odisha. Then, during the premiership of Maharaja Krushna Chandra Gajapati, who played a pioneering role in the establishment of the University, the recommendations of this committee were made available. Pandit Godavarish Mishra, the then Minister of Education, introduced the Utkal University Bill, which was passed by the Odisha Legislative Assembly on 30th June 1943. On receiving the Governor's assent on 2nd August 1943, the Utkal University Act, 1943 came into force, clearing the way for the foundation of Utkal University on 27th November 1943. The University started functioning from this date in room no. 15 of Ravenshaw College, Cuttack. The Utkal University Act, 1943 did not specify clearly the territorial jurisdiction of the University. However, its jurisdiction was extended to include the princely states of Odisha by an agreement between the rulers of these princely states and the Government of Odisha. According to the agreement, adequate representation of the princely states in the administrative and academic bodies of the University was ensured. The Utkal University Act, 1943 was amended in 1947 defining the territorial jurisdiction of the University, which was subsequently extended to the whole state of Odisha in 1950. Dr. Pranakrushna Parija, the then Principal of Ravenshaw College, Cuttack was the first Vice-Chancellor of the University, and Mr. V. V. John, the then Assistant Professor of English, Ravenshaw College was its first Registrar.
