Way back in 1946, an idea grew in visionary leaders of the country, of creating of Higher Technical Institutes for post-war industrial development in India. A Committee, headed by Nalini Ranjan Sarkar, recommended the establishment of these institutes in various parts of India. The first Indian Institute of Technology was founded in May 1950 at Kharagpur. Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India, at the First Convocation of IIT Kharagpur in 1956, clarified in his Address that these institutes of technology will help meet the technological challenges of the Nation. During 1959-1960 four IITs were established at Bombay, Delhi, Kanpur and Madras. Subsequently, on 15 September 1956, the Parliament of India passed an act known as the Institutes of Technology (Kharagpur) Act, 1961 declaring IIT Kharagpur as an Institute of national importance. Also, IIT Kharagpur was given the status of an autonomous University. Thereupon, IIT Guwahati started in 1992, and also the then University of Roorkee was given the status of an IIT (and now called IIT Roorkee) in 2001.

Establishment of eight more IITs across the country began with a decision of the Cabinet, which was announced by the Minister of Human Resource Development on 28 March 2008. IIT Bhubaneswar, IIT Gandhinagar, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Jodhpur (earlier called IIT Rajasthan), IIT Patna and IIT Ropar began functioning from 2008, and two others, IIT at Indore and IIT Mandi commenced their sessions from 2009. During the past decades since 1956, IITs became hallmark of quality technology undergraduate education internationally, attributed largely to ambience for quality academics. The National Institute of Technology (formerly known as Regional Engineering College) Tiruchirappalli, situated in the heart of Tamil Nadu on the banks of river Cauvery, was started as a joint and co-operative venture of the Government of India and the Government of Tamil Nadu in 1964 with a view to catering to the needs of man-power in technology for the country. 1.    You will go to the registration page and Click 'New registration' option to register yourself.

2.    a. You can fill the form with CAT Registration ID as your login ID. Here you have to give the same email that you used for your CAT2018.

b. Give your first name and last name along with the password that you choose.

c. Click SUBMIT and once you are registered you will get an email in your registered mail id asking to remit the application fee through SB Collect.

3. Now you can login ' Exisiting User' using your CAT Registration ID and chosen password. After successful login you will be directed to page where you are asked to upload the screenshot of completed transaction. Then wait for the confirmation mail in your registered mail id. It may take around 3-4 working days.

To complete the application submission process:

1.    After recieving the confirmation mail,Login through 'Existing User' .

2.    Fill all the required fields in order.

3.    Enter the date, month and year of your birth as per English Calendar and as recorded in your High School Certificate.

4.    Choice of GD/PI centre (Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Tiruchirappalli,Mumbai). Give two choices according to your priority and convenience.

5.    Institute reserves the right to finalize the GD/PI centre. In the event of any such change, you will be intimated through email.

6.    After filling the form correctly, submit it online. On successful submission of online registration an auto-generated print version of the Registration Form will appear. Before taking the print out, save the print version of application form for future reference.

7.    After taking the print, send the form along with the CAT Score Card and CGPA/Percentage Certificate copy. Before printing the application form, save the form for your future reference.

8.    Short listed candidates will be called for Group Discussion and interview for final selection.

9.    Candidates who apply under OBC (Non creamy Layer) quota will have to submit the non creamy layer certificate at the time of interview.

10.Candidates who apply under OC-EWS (Economically Weaker Section) quota will have to submit the EWS certificate at the time of interview.

11.The conversion of CGPA to percentage is not allowed

SELECTION PROCEDURE:

Applicants satisfying minimum eligibility criteria will be called for Group Discussion and Personal Interview. If the number of applicants will be reasonably high, department may set a higher score in academic career as the minimum qualifying criteria to be called for interview. Final selection will be based on Group Discussion, Personal Interview conducted by the Institute, academic career and score of reputed national or international tests for admission to Business Schools as per following weightage:

Qualifying mark for merit list: 50% of total marks irrespective of category. 

NOTE: The candidates appearing B. Tech (final semester) examination may also apply for the above course. However, they have to produce their mark/grade sheet showing 60% marks or CGPA 6.5 (as the case may be) in aggregate latest by 30th September 2020 failing which their studentship will stand cancelled. Such students, at the time of admission, must produce a certificate signed by the Principal or Registrar of the College last attended stating that all examinations including practical necessary for award of the degree have been completed in order to be eligible for admission in the prescribed format [Annexure I], to be uploaded along with the selection list.
