About College:

National Power Training Institute, Southern Region is one of the 9(Nine) Institutes under National Power Training Institute, a Registered Society functioning with the grant-in-aid from Ministry of Power, Government of India.

National Power Training Institute, Southern Region, Neyveli is the very first Power Training Institute in the country. It was started in 1965 as Steam Power Station Personnel Training Institute later renamed as Thermal Power Station Personnel Training Institute under the erstwhile Central Water Power Commission.

The objective of setting-up of this Training Institute was to provide a centralized facility for training the engineers of Thermal Power Stations which were coming up in the country during that time. Neyveli was chosen for setting up this Institute as six Thermal units of 300 MW were commissioned and units for another 300MW were under construction at that time at Neyveli as a turn-key project by Russians.

Since consultancy for Neyveli Thermal Power Station was provided by Central Water Power Commission the Commission set up this training Institute at Neyveli for utilizing the expertise of M/s Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited Engineers in O&M of Thermal Power Stations to train the Engineers of other Electricity Boards which were also establishing large Thermal Generating units that time.

The Institute has undergone many changes since 1965 and had continuous growth. With the bifurcation of Central Water Power Commission into Central Electricity Authority and Central Water Commission in seventies, the Institute came under Central Electricity Authority. In late 1970s the Raj Dekshya Committee set up by Government of India to improve Power Sector of the country, recommended among many things formal training for the personnel employed in the Power Industry. Accordingly the Indian Electricity Rule was amended and under Rule No.3, a clause has been brought in to make training mandatory for the personnel employed in the generating stations and associated sub stations.

With this the Thermal Power Station Personnel training Institutes including the TPSPTI Neyveli under Central Electricity Authority were carved out and formed into a separate autonomous body under Ministry of Power as Power Engineers Training Society in 1980 to give more importance for Power Training and to have a accelerated growth of the Institutes. P.E.T.S was later renamed as National Power Training Institute (NPTI) in 1993.

SELECTION CRITERIA FOR ADMISSION: Merit based on Diploma marks. No age limit. Reservation for SC/ST/OBC/PH is applicable as per Govt. norms.

TOTAL SEATS: 77 (Seventy seven seats). 25% seats for Sponsored candidates. For admissions under sponsored category, candidate has to provide sponsorship letter. Vacant seats in sponsored category shall be filled by nonsponsored candidates. Sponsored candidates will not be considered for campus placement.

PLACEMENT: To provide career opportunities in the Indian Power Sector, NPTI maintains close linkages with Power Utilities and reputed companies for employment of these trained Diploma engineers. About College:

The Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) had its genesis from establishment of an Agricultural School at Saidapet, Madras, Tamil Nadu, as early as 1868 and it was later relocated at Coimbatore. In 1920 it was affiliated to Madras University. TNAU assumed full responsibilities of Agricultural Education and Research and supported the State Agricultural Department by delivering research products. Till 1946, the Agricultural College and Research Institute, Coimbatore, was the only Institute for Agricultural Education for the whole of South India. In 1958, it was recognized as a Post-graduate Centre leading to Masters and Doctoral degrees. The Agricultural College and Research Institute, Madurai was established in 1965. These two colleges formed the nucleus of the Tamil NaduAgricultural University while it was established in 1971. 

In 1972, separate degree programmes of B.Sc. (Horticulture) and B.E.(Agriculture) were started. In 1979, a separate Faculty of Horticulture was established. In 1980, B.Sc.(Home Science) programme was started at Madurai campus. The third Agricultural College was started at Killikulam in 1984 and the fourth at Kumulur (Trichy) in 1989 and later shifted to Navalur Kuttappattu (Trichy) in 1992 which is named as Anbil Dharmalingam Agricultural College and Research Institute. During 1985, B.Sc.(Forestry) programme was started at Coimbatore. Presently the B.Sc.(Horticulture) degree programme is being offered at Horticultural Collegeand Research Institute, Periyakulam and B.Sc.(Forestry) degree programme at Forest College and Research Institute, Mettupalayam. In line with technological changes the B.E.(Agriculture) hither to offered is offered as B.Tech.(Agricultural Engineering) from the Academic year 2002-2003 at Agricultural EngineeringCollege and Research Institute, Kumulur, Trichy. B.Sc.(Home Science) degree program is being offered at Home Science College and Research Institute, Agricultural College Campus, Madurai. The Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru College of Agriculture and Research Institute, Karaikal, governed by Government of Pondichery, is an affiliated institute of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University where B.Sc.(Agriculture) course is being offered. Apart from these academic institutes, the University now has research programs at more than 32 stations, spread over in Tamil Nadu with more than 1200 scientists and teaching faculty. 

The global technological developments has lead to introduction of new courses. Introduction of B.Tech.(Food Process Engineering) from the academic year 1998-99, B.Tech.(Agricultural Biotechnology) and B.Tech.(Horticulture) from the academic year 2002-2003 as self supporting program has created avenues for bugetary independence. A new degree program B.Tech.(Energy and Environmental Engineering) was started during 2004 and B.Tech.(Bioinformatics) during 2006. B.Tech.(Agricultural Information Technology) and B.S.(Agribusiness Management) were started in 2007.

Vellore, a district capital in Tamil Nadu, has long been known for its stately fort and temple, renowned hospital and medical college, Parry's factories and the vast government industrial estate in nearby Ranipet. Vellore's history records several dynasties and powers. The Pallavas, Cholas, Pandyas, Hoysalas, Sambhurvarayars, Chalukyas, Vijayanagar, Bijapur Sultans, Mughals, Marathas, French and the British have all ruled the area at one point of time or the other. There are scores of other temples and shrines in the area. Among these, the ancient rock-cut Jain cave temples attract heritage enthusiasts from all over the world for their rich art and beautiful sculpture. Not far away, the remains of the Arcot Fort and the magnificent entrance that Robert Clive named the Delhi Gate are reminders of Clive's successful defence of Arcot in 1751 and his uncanny prediction that, with this victory would begin the march from this gate to Delhi.
