Eligibility for Master Programme:

a)    Candidate shall possess a Bachelor degree in the respective subject from recognized University / institute on or before the due date mentioned.

b)    Candidate shall have 6.00/10 or equivalent OGPA/equivalent percentage of marks for general category and 5.50/10 or equivalent OGPA/equivalent percentage of marks for SC/ST/Cat-I candidates at bachelor degree level.

c)    A candidate for master degree programme should be a citizen of India and must have studied in any educational institution in Karnataka State for a period of seven academic years at any time up to the Bachelor degree as on 1st July of the admission year. Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)

Eligibility:

·         A candidate shall work for Ph.D. degree in a subject studied at the Master’s Degree or related subject under a recognized research supervisor. However, a candidate may be allowed to conduct research in a subject other than one chosen for the Master’s Degree, provided it is of an inter-disciplinary nature, with the approval of the concerned Board of Studies.

·         If the research topic is of an inter-disciplinary nature, the research supervisor may opt for a co-supervisor (not be from the same department) who shall be a recognized research supervisor of the University. However the candidate shall finalize and submit the thesis through the main research supervisor.

·         There shall be two types of research candidates: full-time and part-time candidates. Full-time Ph.D candidates undertake research on a full-time basis. The Part-time Ph.D. programme is for working persons in the University and outside such as teachers/ scientists/ professionals / librarians/ physical education personnel and those employed in various institutions/ industries/ corporations/ organizations.

·         Those in employment and wish to take up the Ph.D. programme on a full-time basis shall produce a certificate from their employer of having been sanctioned study leave. Other candidates who take up the Ph.D. programme on a full-time basis shall give an undertaking to the effect that they will not take up any job during the period of research. If the candidate takes up a job, then the full-time registration may be converted into part-time on conditions similar to part-time research.

·         The Ph.D scholar shall not be permitted to join any other course whether in regular and/or distance mode. They shall not appear for any other examination conducted by the University or any other University during the period of registration, except the Ph.D course work end examination. Any candidate who violates this provision, the registration will stand cancelled. 

·         If any candidate doing Ph.D. on a full-time basis is found to be doing a full-time job, his/ her Ph.D registration will stand cancelled.

(Honours) Economics was admitted in June-July 2017, through an All India Entrance test conducted by Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA), Government of Karnataka, Bengaluru and the classes for this pioneer batch began from 28th August 2017, at the Department of Visual Arts, Bangalore University, Jnana Bharathi campus, Bengaluru. The Academic session of the B.A.S.E was inaugurated at Dr.B.R. Ambedkar Bhavan by Honourable former Prime Minister of India Dr Manmohan Singh, world reknowned Economist on 4t October 2017. The programme was chaired by the Hon. Chief Minister of Karnataka Shri Siddaramaiahji and Hon. Minister for Higher Education Shri Basavaraj Rayareddy was the Guest of Honour. The programme was attended by a galaxy of Ministers of the Government of Karnataka and many dignitaries from Bangalore. Dr. Manmohan Singh gave some very important advice to the students. and the Key Note Speaker of this occasion was Dr. C Rangarajan, former Governor of Reserve Bank of India and the Chairperson of the Prime Minister’s Advisory Council. He spoke about the current economic situation and the future of Indian economy.

Integrated M.Sc. (Honours) with an option of exit policy after 3 years in Economics course

Duration: 5 years

Eligibility:

An all India level examination will be conducted for selecting the students to five years integrated M. Sc. (Honours) in Economics course with an option to exit after three years in B.A.S.E. For admission to five years integrated M.Sc (Honours) in Economics course, the candidate should have passed in 2nd PUC / Equivalent Exam with English as one of the Languages and Mathematics as a core subject and obtained a minimum of 65% marks in aggregate (60% for SC and ST).

Reservation of seats: 60% seats are reserved for students of Karnataka and remaining 40% seats are reserved for students of all States of the country including Karnataka. Of the 60% seats reserved for students of Karnataka, 20% is reserved for Scheduled Caste and 10% for Scheduled Tribe students. As regards other reservations, the policy adopted by the Government of Karnataka will be followed. Of the 40% seats reserved for students of all States of the country including Karnataka, 20% is reserved for Scheduled Caste and 10% for Scheduled Tribe students as per Government of India reservation notification The candidates are required to appear for the common entrance test conducted by the Central University Common Entrance Test (CUCET) 2018-19 and the marks obtained by them will be considered for admission. Education
