National Entrance Screening Test (NEST) is a compulsory test for students seeking admission to National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER) Bhubaneswar and University of Mumbai - Department of Atomic Energy Centre for Excellence in Basic Sciences (UM-DAE CEBS), Mumbai. Both NISER and UM-DAE CEBS were set up by Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India in 2007. Their mandate is to train scientific manpower for carrying out cutting edge scientific research and for providing input to scientific programmes of Department of Atomic Energy and other applied science institutions in the country. NEST 2020 will be conducted in around 90 cities [see list on the website] across India. The brochure gives the detailed procedure for applying for the test, syllabus of the test and various deadlines.

NISER, Bhubaneswar and UM-DAE CEBS, Mumbai are in compliance with the UGC and Govt. of India guidelines on anti-ragging. Ragging in any form is a punishable offense and hence is totally prohibited on these campuses. NISER, established by the Department of Atomic Energy, strives to become a citadel for basic sciences and allied subjects in terms of teaching and research. Its vision includes imparting high-quality science education in a vibrant academic ambience to the bright, motivated students, by a faculty of distinguished scientists and teachers. The curriculum is amply supported by a strong visitor's programme by accomplished scientists from India and abroad.

NISER offers a 5 year integrated M.Sc. programme in Biological, Chemical, Mathematical and Physical sciences. NISER functions from its own campus at Jatni. Degrees at NISER will be awarded by the Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI), a deemed-to-be University within the Department of Atomic Energy. There are 200 seats for 2020 batch, including reserved seats for SC/ST/OBC/Divyangjan candidates as per Government norms. If offered admission under the OBC-NCL category, candidate must produce the relevant certificate on the date of admission, valid on that date. “NEST 2020 examination will be a Computer-Based Test (CBT/online exam)”

Eligibility:

Candidates must qualify all four eligibility criteria listed below:

·         Candidates in General and OBC category should be born on or after August 01, 2000. The age limit is relaxed by 5 years for SC/ ST/ Divyangjan candidates.

·         Class XII qualifying examination should be passed in either 2018 or 2019. Candidates appearing in 2020 are also eligible. (Where only Letter Grade is given by the Board, a certificate from the Board specifying equivalent percentage marks will be required. In the absence of such a certificate the decision of the respective Admission Committees will be final.)

·         At least 60% marks in aggregate (or equivalent grade) in Class XII (or equivalent) examination from any recognized Board in India. For Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) candidates and for Divyangjan candidates, the minimum requirement is 55%.

·         Candidate should secure a position in the NEST merit list.

How to Apply:

To apply for NEST 2020, candidates must fill–up the online application form through www.nestexam.in on or after January 07, 2020. Candidates are strongly advised to read through the detailed online application procedure available on the website (click on ‘How to Apply online’). Online application process closes on April 3rd, 2020. Application can be

Submitted only through NEST 2020 website. There is no other mode of application submission. Login credentials for logging into application submission and fee payment portals will be provided upon online registration.

Application Fee: The application fee for the male candidates of General and OBC categories is Rs. 1,200/–. The application fee for candidates in the SC/ST/PwD categories and for all female candidates is Rs. 600/–. Payments can be made using credit card/debit

card/net–banking through online payment gateway. Please use Mastercard/Visa/RuPay cards only.

Candidates need not send any document to NEST office in the entire application process. Please refer to the instruction sheet (the ‘How to Apply Online’ tab on website) for details regarding application process.

Admit card: The admit card for NEST 2020 will be available for downloading from April 24, 2020. Admit cards will NOT be dispatched to any applicant. Applicants must download their admit cards from NEST website (after login). The download link will be available only till the day of examination.

SELECTION PROCEDURE:

Applicants satisfying minimum eligibility criteria will be called for Group Discussion and Personal Interview. If the number of applicants will be reasonably high, department may set a higher score in academic career as the minimum qualifying criteria to be called for interview. Final selection will be based on Group Discussion, Personal Interview conducted by the Institute, academic career and score of reputed national or international tests for admission to Business Schools as per following weightage:

Qualifying mark for merit list: 50% of total marks irrespective of category. 

NOTE: The candidates appearing B. Tech (final semester) examination may also apply for the above course. However, they have to produce their mark/grade sheet showing 60% marks or CGPA 6.5 (as the case may be) in aggregate latest by 30th September 2020 failing which their studentship will stand cancelled. Such students, at the time of admission, must produce a certificate signed by the Principal or Registrar of the College last attended stating that all examinations including practical necessary for award of the degree have been completed in order to be eligible for admission in the prescribed format [Annexure I], to be uploaded along with the selection list. OBC & PH category students are advised to submit the respective Annexures available in the application portal.

Applicants are required to send hard copy of the signed application form along with the Demand Draft to the Registrar, National Institute of Technology, Rourkela, Odisha, Pin - 769008. However, candidates who will be called for interview are required to submit signed copy of the application form and a set of Xerox copies of all certificates to the HOD on reporting day of the interview. ·         The admission application fee is as follows:

An applicant desirous of applying for the PGDM Programme at IMI Bhubaneswar only, will be required to pay a fee of Rs. 1000 (For International Student Application Fee will be USD 100).

An applicant desirous of applying to PGDM Programme at IMI Delhi and in any of the other campuses of IMI will be required to pay a common application fee of Rs.2200.

(For Example: A candidate wishing to apply to the PGDM Programme at IMI Bhubaneswar only will be required to pay Rs. 1000. However, a candidate applying to the PGDM Programme at IMI Delhi will be required to pay Rs. 2200. Institute of Life Sciences (ILS) was established in the year 1989 as an autonomous institute under the administrative control of Govt. of Odisha. Essential Qualification:

1.    Candidates should have passed their M.Sc./ M.Tech./ M.Pharm./ M.V.Sc. or equivalent qualification in life sciences and allied subjects (Biochemistry/ Biotechnology/ Bioinformatics/ Biophysics/ Chemistry/ Microbiology, etc.) with minimum of 60% marks (or equivalent grade point). Candidates awaiting final results may also apply, however, if shortlisted, they have to produce their final mark sheet on the date of the interview, failing which they will not be interviewed.

2.    Candidates should have also qualified in CSIR/UGC-JRF or DBT-JRF or DBT-BINC-JRF or UGC-RGNF or ICMR-JRF or DST-INSPIRE or GATE or GPAT. If the original certificate is not available, the candidate has to provide a photocopy of the original admit card and the particular result page highlighting their roll number, along with the application.

3.    The candidate should be below 28 years in age, as on 31st December, 2019. An age relaxation of five years in the case of SC/ST/women/PH candidates and three years in the case of OBC candidates will be given (as per Govt. of India rules).

Selection Procedure:

The selection will be made on the basis of scores of CAT/ XAT/ MAT/ C-MAT followed by G.D. & P.I, which will be conducted at Bhubaneswar, Kolkata, Jamshedpur, Guwahati, Ranchi, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Delhi and other parts of the country. The date for G.D. & P.I. will be declared later.

On 28th August 2006, the Prime Minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh announced for the establishment of the National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER) at Bhubaneswar, which will be operated under the umbrella of Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) of Govt. of India. He announced that theNISER will facilitate the synergy between research and higher education in science. He had stated categorically that NISER will be compared with the best institutions in the country in terms of facilities and faculty.The Atomic Energy Commission, in its 182nd meeting held on 16.03.2007 approved the proposal for establishment of NISER at Bhubaneswar. Till the permanent campus comes up, NISER will be functioning from the beautiful campus of the Institute of Physics (IOP), Bhubaneswar, a renowned Institute with state-of-art infrastructure that includes an excellent library, a large computer centre and a number of outstanding research laboratories. Dr. Viyogi, the director of Institute of Physics was given the official charge of NISER.

Biological Sciences:

60% or equivalent GPA in Masters or M.Tech in any branches of Biology, Life Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, Veterinary Sciences, Computer Sciences, Bioinformatics and Biotechnology. Students with Master’s degree in Physics, Chemistry or Mathematics having interest in pursuing a career in Biology are also encouraged to apply.

Candidates should have qualified at least one of these National Level Written Examinations i.e. CSIR-UGC-NET/GATE/GPAT/DBT/ICMR/JEST/JGEEBILS/ICSSR or any other national level written examinations valid for the academic year 2019-2020. Chemical Sciences:

60% or equivalent GPA in Masters in Chemistry or allied Chemistry fields. Physical Sciences:

Candidates should have qualified at least one of these National Level Written Examinations i.e. CSIR-UGC-NET/GATE/GPAT/DBT/ICMR/JEST/JGEEBILS/ICSSR or any other national level written examinations valid for the academic year 2019-2020. Until 1936, when Odisha was made into a separate province, all its colleges were under the jurisdiction of either Patna University or Andhra University. Subsequently, the government of Odisha, headed by Shri Biswanath Dash, the then Prime Minister; appointed a committee on 2nd March 1938 with Pandit Nilakantha Das as its Chairman to examine the possibility of establishing a separate university in Odisha. Then, during the premiership of Maharaja Krushna Chandra Gajapati, who played a pioneering role in the establishment of the University, the recommendations of this committee were made available. Pandit Godavarish Mishra, the then Minister of Education, introduced the Utkal University Bill, which was passed by the Odisha Legislative Assembly on 30th June 1943. On receiving the Governor's assent on 2nd August 1943, the Utkal University Act, 1943 came into force, clearing the way for the foundation of Utkal University on 27th November 1943. The University started functioning from this date in room no. 15 of Ravenshaw College, Cuttack.

The Regional Medical Research Centre (ICMR), Bhubaneswar is a permanent research centre of Indian Council of Medical Research. The foundation stone of the centre was laid by the then prime minister of India Late Mrs. Indira Gandhi on 29th March 1981.Initially the Center started in a small rental accommodation in 1982 and shifted to the Centre’s own building in year 1990 after completion. Candidates holding M.Sc. in a subject allied to Life Sciences/Bio-Medical Sciences (Other than M.Sc. Nursing) M.Tech. The degree will be eligible for the Non-Medical Qualification Category. Candidate having eligibility under non-medical category should have at least 55% marks in the last eligibility examination qualified (50 % in case of SC/ST/OBC/OPH candidates).

Candidate possessing a Master’s Degree through distant learning course shall not be eligible. The non-medical candidates should have qualified in any one of the following national entrance tests in the last 2 years (Valid Fellowship):

·         Joint CSIR-UGC NET for JRF

·         ICMR – JRF

·         DBT – JRF

·         NBHM screening test

·         Graduate aptitude test (GATE)

·         INSPIRE fellowship

·         UGC – JRF

·         CSIR – JRF

·         Any other Fellowship for the PhD. Program

§  Candidates working under Central Govt./Semi Govt./Autonomous organization should submit their applications through proper channel i.e. employer. They will be required to submit a ‘No Objection Certificate” from their employer before they are allowed to join the PhD Course.

§  The candidates who are likely to complete requisite qualification and degree by 15th September 2019 may also apply.

§  A candidate who is employed as a Research Fellow in extramural research projects in this Institute provided, he/she possesses the required educational qualifications**.

§  A teacher of the Institute holding a substantive post who is relieved on study leave with salary for a period of not less than two years for pursuing a Ph.D. program.

How to Apply:

Application form available at the AIIMS Bhubaneswar website should be duly filled and the filled application form should be forwarded through Speed Post to the Assistant Controller of Examinations, Examination Cell, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, At-Sijua, Post-Dumuduma Patrapada, Bhubaneswar -751019 to reach on or before 16.09.2019 at 5:00pm. The envelope should be marked as “AIIMS BBSR PhD 2019”. Incomplete applications and applications received after the closing date will be disqualified.
