The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Berhampur, established in 2016 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India is a Center of Excellence dedicated to teaching and research in basic sciences. PhD in Biological Sciences

Eligibility:

1.    M.Sc./M.Tech. Degree in the relevant discipline with a minimum of 60% marks or CGPA/CPI of 7.0 on a 10 point scale. (Overall percentage/CGPA/CPI; not only in majoring subject)

2.    If the transcript/grade sheet issued by the Institute/University reports:

Only marks, percentage will be considered.

Only grades, CGPA/CPI will be considered. If CGPA/CPI is reported on any scale other than 10 (eg. 4 point/ 8 point scale), an equivalent CGPA/CPI will be calculated as per the following formula:

National Entrance Screening Test, NEST 2019

National Entrance Screening Test (NEST) is a compulsory test for students seeking admission to National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER) Bhubaneswar and University of Mumbai - Department of Atomic Energy Centre for Excellence in Basic Sciences (UM-DAE CEBS), Mumbai. Both NISER and UM-DAE CEBS were set up by Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India in 2007. Their mandate is to train scientific manpower for carrying out cutting edge scientific research and for providing input to scientific programmes of Department of Atomic Energy and other applied science institutions in the country. NEST 2019 will be conducted in around 91 cities [see list through the website] across India. The brochure gives the detailed procedure for applying for the test, syllabus of the test and various dead lines.

NISER, Bhubaneswar and UM-DAE CEBS, Mumbai are in compliance with the UGC and Govt. of India guidelines on anti-ragging. Ragging in any form is a punishable offense and hence is totally prohibited on these campuses. NISER established by the Department of Atomic Energy, strives to become a citadel for basic sciences and allied subjects in terms of teaching and research. Degrees at NISER will be awarded by the Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI), a deemed-to-be University within the Department of Atomic Energy.

There are 200+2 seats for 2019 batch, including reserved seats for SC/ST/OBC/PD candidates and two seats for candidates from the state of J&K as per Government norms. NEST 2019 examination will be a Computer-Based Test (CBT/online exam)

Eligibility:

Candidates must qualify all four eligibility criteria listed below:

·         Candidates in General and OBC category should be born on or after August 01, 1999. The age limit is relaxed by 5 years for SC/ ST/ Physically Disabled (PD) candidates.

·         Class XII qualifying examination should be passed in either 2017 or 2018. Candidates appearing in 2019 are also eligible. (Where only Letter Grade is given by the Board, a certificate from the Board specifying equivalent percentage marks will be required. In the absence of such a certificate the decision of the respective Admission Committees will be final.)

·         At least 60% marks in aggregate (or equivalent grade) in Class XII (or equivalent) examination from any recognized Board in India. For Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) candidates and for Persons with Disability (PD), the minimum requirement is 55%.

·         Candidate should secure a position in the NEST merit list.

How to Apply:

To apply for NEST 2019, candidates must fill–up the online application form through www.nestexam.in on or after January 07, 2019. Candidates are strongly advised to read through the detailed online application procedure available on the website (click on ‘How to Apply online’). Online application process closes on March 11, 2019. Application can be

Submitted only through NEST 2019 website. There is no other mode of application submission. Login credentials for logging into application submission and fee payment portals will be provided upon online registration.

Application Fee: The application fee for the male candidates of General and OBC categories is Rs. 1,200/–. The application fee for candidates in the SC/ST/PwD categories and for all female candidates is Rs. 600/–. Payments can be made using credit card/debit

card/net–banking through online payment gateway.

The Institute of Life Sciences (ILS) located in Bhubaneswar has been brought under the fold of the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India in August 2002.
