Eligibility for Admission

(i)           To be admitted to the candidature for a Ph.D. Degree Programme an applicant shall have:

(a) Obtained a Master’s Degree in law (regular mode) from any recognized University including a foreign University securing not less than 55% marks or its equivalent.

or

(b) Obtained a Master’s Degree (regular mode) in any discipline from a recognized University including a foreign University with not less than 55% marks or its equivalent.

Provided that the candidate with qualifications in sciences, social sciences and humanities may pursue his / her research interfacing with public policy or law.

Provided further that the candidate whose final result of the qualifying examination is awaited, for any reason, shall be allowed to appear provisionally in the admission test. Such candidate shall have to produce the final result of the qualifying examination at the time of the final presentation of his / her Ph.D. proposal.

Provided further that the requirement of 55% marks or its equivalent at Master’s Degree is relaxed to 50% marks or its equivalent in case of candidate belonging to SC / ST / OBC (non- creamy layer) and Specially Abled Persons (SAP).

or

(c) A Judge who has served for minimum three years as a Judge of High Court in India or Judge of the Supreme Court of India.

(d) The candidate who has passed the Company Secretary examination conducted by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) and has been awarded the Associate Membership of the Institute (ACS) and having a Bachelor Degree in Law from a recognized University through regular stream shall be eligible for admission to the programme. Provided that the research he / she wishes to pursue interfaces with a special focus on public policy or law.

(e) The candidate who has passed the Charted Accountants examination conducted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, New Delhi and has been awarded Membership of the Institute and having a Bachelor Degree in Law from a recognized University through regular stream shall be eligible for admission to the programme. Provided that the research he / she wishes to pursue interfaces with a special focus on public policy or law.

(ii)          The Vice-Chancellor may permit a faculty member of the Maharashtra National Law University, Nagpur to take up Ph.D. Degree Programme along with his / her teaching assignment in the interest of faculty development, provided that his / her teaching assignment(s) and other responsibilities do not hamper in any way and fulfills the eligibility conditions prescribed in these Regulations.

Test Centre: The University has decided to conduct the All India Entrance Test (AIET) for Ph.D. Degree Programme 2019 at Nagpur only.

Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs) were created in 2006 through a proclamation of Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, to promote quality education and research in basic sciences. Established in 1984, the Institute of Microbial Technology (IMTECH) is one among the chain of 37 national laboratories, 6 units and 39 outreach centres of the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research. Set-up to be a fore-runner in the niche domain of microbial biotechnology, the Institute in its initial years functioned from a start-up laboratory that provided a truly world-class R&D ambience in an area of over 10,000 sq. ft. to its researchers. Eligibility:

Candidates with Master's Degree (M.Sc./M.Tech/M.Pharm) with minimum aggregate of 55% marks or equivalent in CGPA in any branch of Life sciences / Biotechnology / Physics / Chemistry / Computer Sciences or allied subject with special interest in Biology OR B.Tech (in Information Technology/Computer Sciences/ Biological Sciences or other branches with special interest in Biology) / B.Pharm / B.E. / MBBS candidates with at least 55 % (or equivalent in CGPA) may apply. B.Tech/B.Pharm/BE students who fulfill the condition for GATE-JRF fellowship (http://csirhrdg.res.in/jrfgate.pdf) are also eligible. The minimum aggregate of marks in case of SC/ST/Differently-abled candidates are 50%.

Candidates also need to have any of the valid research fellowships such as CSIR/UGC NET or DBT JRF examination (‘A’ Category) or DST INSPIRE Fellowship or ICMR JRF examination or other equivalent fellowship. Please note that valid proofs, of Fellowship examinations, and Masters’/ Bachelor’s degree or those awaiting for their final results, are mandatory for appearing in the interview. Those coming for interview must be prepared to be present in Chandigarh for two days, which is the approximate time required to finalize the admission.  No TA/DA or any other expenses will be paid for appearing in the interview. Candidates must also state their present occupation, if any, before the interview; any concealment may result in cancellation of admission at any stage.

Selection:

The eligible candidates will be called for interview at IMTECH, Chandigarh. The interview will be aimed at assessing the candidate’s knowledge, critical analysis, logical reasoning and aptitude for scientific research. The result of the selected candidates will be declared on AcSIR website. The fee for Ph.D. program is as per AcSIR fee structure. Currently, per semester fee is Rs. 7,000/- and thesis submission fees is Rs. 5,000/-.

Important to Note: In case of selection, admission of candidates shall be provisional subject to condition that they shall obtain fellowship for a period of five years from a funding agency. In case, candidates fail to receive fellowship, admission stands cancelled.

About College:

Established in 2011 as an ‘Institution of National Importance’ (interim operations started in June, 2010), the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR) has adopted the mandate to create and train some of the best of tomorrow’s Science & Technology leaders through a combination of innovative and novel curricula, pedagogy and evaluation. AcSIR’s focus will be on imparting instruction and providing research opportunities in such areas that are not routinely taught in regular academic universities in India.

1.    Sign-Up phase: In Sign-Up phase, once you successfully Sign-Up on AcSIR Online Admission Portal, you will be receiving auto email on your email-id with login credentials and link to be re-directed for further complete admission form fill-up process.

2.    Online Application Form Phase: On completion of AcSIR Online Application form, AcSIR Application Number (AAN) will be generated e.g. AcSIR12345. This AAN shall be used in future correspondence between applicant and AcSIR.

3.    Print Acknowledgement of Admission Receipt with AcSIR Application Number (AAN).

·         Candidates with MD/MS, DM/MCh degrees who are themselves acting as chief guides cannot apply

·         Post graduate degrees awarded by distance education will not be considered.

·         A JRF/SRF working in a project funded by the Institute or any other extramural funding agency and teaching faculty working on ad hoc basis or on daily wage / contract basis can apply for full time registration in a PhD programme. 3.    An undertaking that he/she will not claim any extension of the tenure of the post or any other benefit whatsoever, linking the claim to his/her registration and pursuance of PhD program (Form B)

Selection Procedure

The applications should be complete in all respects. Those applications which are incomplete shall be summarily rejected and the decision of the selection committee shall be final. The selection will be made by the committee based on written test and / or interview. The final selection list will be notified and will be communicated to the successful candidates. The selected candidates are required to deposit their fees and undergo medical examination before joining the course.
