National Institute Of Technology Silchar (NIT Silchar), an Institute of National Importance under the NIT Act was established in 1967 as a Regional Engineering College (REC), Silchar. A. The Candidate must hold a bachelor degree (Regular) with at least 55% marks or 6.0 CPI/CGPA on a 10 Point Scale in aggregate. C. The students who are appearing in their final semester examination may also apply. however, they must have obtained at least 55% marks or 6.0 CPI/CGPA on a 10 point scale till their last semester/year. also, they will have to submit an undertaking as per annexure-v of the application form duly ratified by their respective university/institutions. such candidates, if selected, will be admitted provisionally, on the condition that they will complete all the requirements for the qualifying degee with minimum marks or CPI/CGPA stipulated above (Point A), before the commencement of the programme and produce a provisional certificate of completion within 15th september 2020, failing which their admission will stand cancelled.

D. The Bachelor degree in distance mode recognised by DDE and IGNOU may be considered.

E. The department may specify additional requirements over and above these minimum requirements as stated above.

Admission Procedure:

The Admission to the MBA Programme 2020-22 will be based on the performance in CAT/MAT/CMAT, Group Discussion/Written ability test and personal Interview of the Candidate.

Admission Requirements:

1.    A candidate seeking admission to the course for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) shall have to obtain at least 55% marks in Master’s Degree OR equivalent Grade point.

2.    Relaxation upto 5% marks may be availed by the candidates belonging to the reserved categories.

3.    All applicants seeking admission to the Doctoral programme of the University [except foreign students applying for admission as provided for under clause 9] must clear the Dibrugarh University Research Admission Test (DURAT).

4.    The DURAT is to be conducted annually by the University. The mode of conducting the DURAT shall be decided by the Research Council time to time.

5.    The candidates who have qualified the UGC-NET (including JRF)/UGC-CSIR NET (including JRF)/SLET/GATE/GPAT teacher fellowship holder or have passed M.Phil programme (in regular mode and in the concerned subject) are exempted from appearing the DURAT.

6.    However, these candidates have to apply for admission as per the University Notification. These candidates have to appear a viva-voce/ interview for getting selection for admission.

7.    Not more than 50% of the seats in the subject concerned shall be filled up by the candidates, who are exempted from appearing the DURAT as per the provisions above.

8.    A candidate may also be enrolled if she/he has any other degree recognised as equivalent to the Master’s Degree in the subject in which the candidate wishes to pursue a course of research, provided the candidate fulfills the conditions at (i) above.

9.    Under special circumstances, a candidate may be allowed by the Research Council to undertake research in a subject other than one in which she/he has obtained Master’s Degree.

10.Before permitting the candidate to do so, the Council shall satisfy itself that the branches are inter-related and/or the candidate is competent to undertake research in the particular subject as evidenced by published/practical works.

11.A candidate with a B.E./B.Tech. Degree with a valid JRF-GATE score may also be considered for admission to the Ph.D. programme.

Reservation Policy:

·         Statutory Reservation Policy shall be followed as below:

·         Scheduled Caste (SC): 7%

·         Scheduled Tribes Plains (STP): 10%

·         Scheduled Tribes Hills (STH): 5%

·         OBC/MOBC (non creamy layer): 15%

Admission Procedure

·         The list of the candidates invited for Viva-Voce shall be notified by the University concerned in the website by 10th September 2019.

·         There will be a Viva Voce Examination for all the candidates as below:

There are two Groups (A and B) of admission under Ph.D. Program

GROUP A: Ph.D. Program - Regular Category who may receive fellowship from the MHRD / CSIR/UGC or any other recognized funding agency

Fellowship: As per MHRD / CSIR / UGC guidelines.

Research Fellowship is available to the scholars who are admitted to Ph.D. programmes in different departments subject to the availability as stipulated by Ministry of Human Resources Development. The award and renewal of the fellowship is as per the guidelines issued by MHRD, from time to time.

Eligibility for application in GROUP A:

1.    Students for admission into Ph.D. Programs in Engineering Departments must satisfy one of the following criteria:

i)M.E./M.Tech. or equivalent in an appropriate area with a minimum CPI of 6.5 (on a 10 point scale) or equivalent (60% of marks). For SC/ST candidates, a minimum CPI of 6.0 (on a 10 point scale) or equivalent (55% of marks). and

ii)B.E./B.Tech. with an excellent academic record with valid GATE score and with a CPI of at least 8.0 (on 10 point scale) or equivalent (75% of marks). For graduates from IITs/NITs, the minimum CPI requirement is 7.0 (on 10 point scale). For SC/ST candidates, there is a relaxation of 0.5 CPI or 5% of marks.

2.    Students for admission into the Ph.D. Programs in Science departments must have a Master degree in the relevant discipline ) with a valid GATE / UGC (JRF) / CSIR (JRF) / NBHM / NET (JRF) score for admission with a minimum CPI of 6.5 (on a 10 point scale) or equivalent (60% of marks). For SC/ST candidates, a minimum CPI of 6.0 (on a 10 point scale) or equivalent (55% of marks) ) with a valid GATE / UGC (JRF) / CSIR (JRF) / NBHM / NET (JRF) score for admission.

3.    Students for admission into the Ph.D. Programs in Management Studies departments must have a Master’s degree in Business Administration or Master’s degree in Engineering /Technology with a minimum CPI of 6.5 (on a 10 point scale) or equivalent (60% of marks) or Master degree in other disciplines with a minimum CPI of 6.5 (on a 10 point scale) or equivalent (60% of marks)For SC/ST candidates, a minimum CPI of 6.0 (on a 10 point scale) or equivalent (55% of marks) . A valid score in NET (JRF) / GATE/UGC (JRF) is required for all.

GROUP B: Ph.D. Program–No financial assistance or stipend by NIT Silchar will be provided for this GROUP.

Following students will be considered under this GROUP:

I)            REGULAR- The regular students are those who work full-time for their Ph.D. and self-financed.

II)         SPONSORED-who are employed in a Central/State Govt. Departments/PSUs/Reputed Educational Institutes/Research organizations/Reputed Industries for doing research in the Institute on a full-time basis. He / She should have at least two years of working experience in the respective field. The candidate must submit the filled-in sponsorship letter (FORM I) from the employer with the application for admission. He / She shall not be entitled to any financial support from the Institute.

III)       PART-TIME This category refers to the candidates who are professionally employed personnel. They have to stay in the Institute/around the Institute at least during the period of course work so that they can attend regular classes as per the Institute academic norm. The applicant must be an employee of a State/Central Govt. Departments/PSUs/ Reputed Educational Institutes/Research organizations/Reputed Industries at the time of admission having at least one year experience in the discipline in which admission is sought. No financial assistance shall be provided by the Institute to such students. A No Objection Certificate from the Head of the Institute/Organization, in which he/she is employed, must be enclosed with application in FORM II.

IV)        PROJECT STAFF This category refers to the candidates who work on sponsored projects in the Institute.

V)           SPONSORED (EXTERNAL REGISTRATION) - Candidates employed in R&D organizations / educational Institutes having adequate research facilities. Sponsorship certificate (FORM III) from the Head of the organization where the candidate is employed must be enclosed at the time of application.

About College:

Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, the sixth member of the IIT fraternity, was established in 1994. The academic programme of IIT Guwahati commenced in 1995. At present the Institute has eleven departments and three inter-disciplinary academic centres covering all the major engineering, science and humanities disciplines, offering BTech, BDes, MA, MDes, MTech, MSc and PhD programmes. Within a short period of time, IIT Guwahati has been able to build up world class infrastructure for carrying out advanced research and has been equipped with state-of-the-art scientific and engineering instruments. Ph.D. in Engineering

Eligibility

For admission to the PhD Programme in Engineering departments, a candidate must satisfy one of the following criteria:

1.    Master's degree in Engineering/Technology/Medical Sciences/Veterinary Sciences/Pharmacy in a relevant area with a minimum Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) of either 6.0 or 60% of marks.

2.    Four-year Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology/Medical Sciences or equivalent in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of either 7.0 or 70% of marks.

Or the candidate must satisfy the relevant specific criteria given below.

3.    A candidate having a Four-year Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology or equivalent in a relevant area, with a Postgraduate Degree in Management Science(Finance) or MBA with Finance specialization or equivalent, is also considered for admission in the area of specialization `Construction Management, of the Department of Civil Engineering. The candidate should have a minimum of either 6.0 CPI or 60% marks in Bachelor's level and either 6.0 CPI or 60% marks in the postgraduate degree.

4.    A candidate having MSc degree with Mathematics as a subject at bachelor's level is also considered for admission in the Department of Civil Engineering. The candidate should have a minimum of either 7.0 CPI or 70% marks in Master's level with consistent first class at other levels.

5.    A candidate having a Two-year Master's degree (after completion of 4-year Bachelor's degree) or three-year Master's degree (after completion of 3-year Bachelor's degree) in Engineering/ Technology/Science in a relevant area with minimum Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) of either 6.0 or 60% of marks is also considered for admission in to PhDProgramme in Biosciences and Bioengineering.

6.    A candidate with a Two-year MSc degree (after completion of 3-year Bachelor's degree) in a relevant area with minimum CPI of either 7.0 or 70% marks, is also considered for admission in to PhD Programme in Biosciences and Bioengineering.

7.    Postgraduates in Computer Science (ALCCS) from Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE), with a minimum Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) of either 6.0 or 60% of marks, are also eligible to apply for admission in to PhD programme in Computer Science and Engineering

8.    A regular student of IIT Guwahati who is continuing his/her MTech studies and having a minimum CPI of 8.0 at the end of second semester may be enrolled in the PhD programme of the Department in the beginning of his/her third semester of study. Such students can receive only PhD Degree.

9.    A student of IIT Guwahati who is continuing his/her BTech studies and having a minimum CPI of 7.0 at the end of sixth semester may be enrolled in the PhD programme of the Department in the beginning of his/her seventh semester of study. Such students can receive dual BTech and PhD Degree. Both the degrees will be awarded after completion of PhD degree.

Relaxation for SC/ST/PwD Candidates: Eligibility criteria will be relaxed by 5% marks or 0.5 CPI for SC/ST/PwD applicants.

Eligibility:

For admission to the PhD Programme in Design, a candidate must satisfy one of the following criteria:

1.    Candidates having MArch/ MDes degree or MTech/ ME degree in a relevant area, with a minimum CPI of either 6.0 or 60% of marks.

2.    Master's degree in Applied Arts/ Ergonomics/ Fine Arts/ Psychology/ Physiology/ Occupational Safety and Health/ Journalism/ Mass Media Communication with a minimum CPI of either 6.0 or 60% marks.

3.    Two-year Master's degree in Management (MBA or equivalent) with a minimum CPI of either 6.0 or 60% marks with relevant studies in Design field, and Bachelor's degree in any discipline.

4.    Four-year Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Design or Engineering/Technology or Five-year BArch degree or equivalent in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of either 7.0 or 70% of marks.

5.    Four-year Undergraduate Diploma in Design (NID or equivalent), with postgraduate qualification in relevant area with a minimum CPI of either 6.0 or 60% marks.

6.    A two-year Post-graduate Diploma in Design and relevant areas (NID/CEPT or equivalent) with first class at Bachelor's level.

7.    BFA (4-year professional programme, after 10+2)/ GD Art (5-year programme after 10th standard) with one-year professional experience, with a minimum CPI of either 7.0 or 70% of marks.

8.    Master of Computer Application(MCA) degree, with one year of professional experience, with a minimum CPI of either 6.0 or 60% of marks.

9.    A regular student of IIT Guwahati who is continuing his/her MDes studies and having a minimum CPI of 8.0 at the end of second semester may be enrolled in the PhD programme of the Department in the beginning of his/her third semester of study. Such students can receive only PhD Degree.

2.    Master of Science with a minimum CPI of either 6.0 or 60% of marks.

Note:
Requirements for Institute Assistantship/ External Fellowship (Only for Regular & Full Time Category Candidates)

The Institute Assistantships/ External Fellowships are available only for Indian Nationals who are admitted under Regular & Full Time Category into PhD programmes.

The present rates of Institute assistantships are: JRF: Rs.25,000/- per month for first two years of PhD programme and SRF: Rs.28,000/- per month for next three years of PhD programme (that is, assistantship is only for a maximum of 60 months from the date of admission into PhD programme).

REQUIREMENT OF VALID GATE/ CEED/ NET/ INSPIRE:

All Regular and Full Time Category Candidates must satisfy one of the following criteria in addition to Eligibility Criteria related to Qualifying Degree.

1.    B.E./ B.Tech./ B.Des. or equivalent with valid and qualifying GATE score (valid and qualifying CEED score for PhD in Design) above the prescribed cut-off level.

2.    M.Sc. or equivalent with valid and qualifying GATE score above the prescribed cut-off level.

3.    M.Sc. or equivalent with valid NET-JRF qualification.

4.    M.A. in Humanities and Social Sciences Subjects or equivalent with valid NET qualification.

5.    Qualified in any other National Level Examination for Research Fellowship for pursuing PhD and it should be valid for another 3 to 6 months from the Date of admission to PhD programme.

EXEMPTION FROM THE REQUIREMENT OF VALID GATE/ CEED/ NET/ INSPIRE:

A Regular and Full Time Category Candidates satisfying one of the following conditions is exempted from the requirement of valid GATE/ CEED/ NET/ INSPIRE, etc.:

1.     Having M.E. / M.Tech./ M.Des. Degree or equivalent

2.     Bachelors (B.Tech./ B.Des.) Degree from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) with a minimum CPI of 8.0

3.     Masters (M.Sc./ M.A.) Degree from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) with a minimum CPI of 8.0

IMPORTANT RULES:

1.    Assistantships/Fellowships from external funding organizations (e.g., CSIR/ UGC/ INSPIRE, etc) will be available as per terms and conditions of the concerned funding organizations.

2.    Students receiving assistantships from the Institute or fellowships from any other funding agencies, are required to perform academic duties as per prevailing norms.

3.    The continuation of the assistantship/ fellowship is subject to satisfactory performance of the assigned duties and satisfactory research progress of the student in the PhD Programme.

GROUP B: Ph.D. Program–No financial assistance or stipend by NIT Silchar will be provided for this GROUP.

Following students will be considered under this GROUP:

I)                  REGULAR- The regular students are those who work full-time for their Ph.D. and self-financed.

II)               SPONSORED-who are employed in a Central/State Govt. Departments/PSUs/Reputed Educational Institutes/Research organizations/Reputed Industries for doing research in the Institute on a full-time basis. He / She should have at least two years of working experience in the respective field. The candidate must submit the filled-in sponsorship letter (FORM I) from the employer with the application for admission. He / She shall not be entitled to any financial support from the Institute.

III)            PART-TIME This category refers to the candidates who are professionally employed personnel. They have to stay in the Institute/around the Institute at least during the period of course work so that they can attend regular classes as per the Institute academic norm. The applicant must be an employee of a State/Central Govt. Departments/PSUs/ Reputed Educational Institutes/Research organizations/Reputed Industries at the time of admission having at least one year experience in the discipline in which admission is sought. No financial assistance shall be provided by the Institute to such students. A No Objection Certificate from the Head of the Institute/Organization, in which he/she is employed, must be enclosed with application in FORM II.

IV)             PROJECT STAFF This category refers to the candidates who work on sponsored projects in the Institute.

V)                SPONSORED (EXTERNAL REGISTRATION) - Candidates employed in R&D organizations / educational Institutes having adequate research facilities. Sponsorship certificate (FORM III) from the Head of the organization where the candidate is employed must be enclosed at the time of application.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualifications: Candidates must have passed HSLC or equivalent with a minimum of 45% in the aggregate and 50% of marks for GEN/OBC (45% of marks for ST/SC/PH candidates) in Science, Mathematics (or Advanced Mathematics) and English taken together

Admission Procedure 
A candidate may be admitted into the Diploma program of CIT in two ways

The candidate has to clear the CITEE-2018 entrance examination followed by counseling at CIT, Kokrajhar. The second way is to appear in Polytechnic Admission Test (PAT) 2018 conducted by Director, State Council for Technical Education (SCTE), Guwahati, Assam

The candidates appearing in PAT are to attend counseling called by SCTE whereby their eligibility would be verified and their admission forwarded to CIT, Kokrajhar

Out of the total seats, 85% of seats shall be filled up by the candidates qualified by CITEE-2018 and remaining 15% of seats shall be filled up by the candidates through PAT-2018 conducted by SCTE, Assam

Reservation Policy 
In filling up of the available seats, the institute shall follow the following reservation policy

60% from BTAD (60% ST, 5% SC, 15% OBC and 20% General)

20% from North-East region excluding BTAD

17% from All India excluding North-East Region

03%for physically handicapped candidates irrespective of region

Entrance Exam Pattern

The Entrance Examination is conducted in three hours of duration with a total of 150 marks

The question paper consists of five (5) sections of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics and English.

Twenty five questions are set from each section carrying one mark each with the exception of Mathematics from which fifty questions are set.

The questions are of multiple choices with four options of answers.

The Entrance Examination is usually conducted in five different centres at Kokrajhar, Guwahati, Udalguri, Barama and Kajalgaon.

OFFLINE MODE

The application form should be properly filled in original and submitted to ‘The Member Secretary, Admission Committee, CIT, Kokrajhar, BTAD, ASSAM-783370”, by registered/speed/general post on or before 18th April, 2018

However, the duly filled application form may also be submitted to the Admission Cell, CIT, Kokrajhar by hand on or before the last date

Application forms received or submitted after the last date shall be rejected. Application form can be obtained from the selling centres by paying Rs 1000/- (Rupees one thousand only) for GEN/OBC candidates and Rs 500/- (Rupees five hundred only) for SC/ST/PWD

ONLINE MODE:

For Online Mode, candidates may fill the application form through our online portal by visiting the website: www.cit.ac.in. Candidates need to print and send a hard copy of the online application form to “THE MEMBER SECRETARY, ADMISSION COMMITTEE, CIT, KOKRAJHAR, BTAD, ASSAM-783370”, by registered/speed/general post on or before 25th April, 2018

The form should accompany with the entrance examination fees Rs 1000/- (Rupees one thousand only) for GEN/OBC candidates and Rs 500/- (Rupees five hundred only) for SC/ST/PWD) receipt paid through SBI, E-Collect

Admit Card

The admit card shall be issued online by the institute in the first week of May 2018
