Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU), formerly known as Andhra Pradesh Open University, is located in the city of Hyderabad. AIIMS was created in 1956 to serve as a nucleus for nurturing excellence in all aspects of health care Creating a country imbued with a scientific culture was Jawaharlal Nehru's dream, and immediately after independence he prepared a grand design to achieve it. Among the temples of modern India which he designed, was a centre of excellence in the medical sciences. Nehru's dream was that such a centre would set the pace for medical education and research in Southeast Asia, and in this he had the wholehearted support of his Health Minister, Rajkumari Amrit  Kaur.

The health survey and development committee ,chaired by Sir Joseph Bhore, an   Indian Civil Servant ,had in 1946 already recommended the establishment of a national medical centre which would concentrate on meeting the need for highly qualified manpower to look after the nation's expanding health care activities . The dreams of Nehru and Amrit Kaur and the recommendations of the Bhore Committee converged to create  a proposal which found favor with the government of New Zealand. A generous grant from New Zealand under the Colombo Plan made it possible to lay the foundation stone of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in 1952.The AIIMS was finally created in 1956, as an autonomous institution through an Act of Parliament, to serve as a nucleus for nurturing excellence in all aspect of health care.

Agra has been renowned at the national and international levels as a centre for educational excellence, and industrial developments apart from tourist attraction. The city not only attracts foreign visitors for site-seeing but the industries like Leather, Foundry and Handicrafts also made it very popular across the globe.

Although the Footwear manufacturing in this area had started centuries before Indian independence, but the sector was not fully developed, as the basic infrastructure was not available at that time. It was actually beginning of sixties when the leather producers and other entrepreneurs thought of value addition to leather by converting it into footwear and other leather goods as the basic raw material i.e. leather was available in abundance. Although, the skilled workforce was available in plenty in some parts of the country, but there was acute shortage of managerial and the supervisory staff with technical qualifications. This was a severe problem and was acting as a major hindrance in the development of the footwear industry in the country. To overcome this problem, Government of India established "Central Footwear Training Centre, Agra" in July 1963, under Small Industries Development Organization, Ministry of Industry with financial assistance from Ford Foundation. The erstwhile Centre was well equipped with latest imported machines. The prime objective of the Centre was to provide young and technically sound personnel to the footwear industry and to upgrade the knowledge and skill of the existing staff.

Additions and necessary changes have been made in the infrastructure and management of the Centre from time to time. But with the rapid growth of the footwear industry in the country and with the introduction of modern machines in the industry, great need was felt by the centre to modernize its infrastructure. To cater the requirements of the industry, complete modern plant of the footwear manufacture was imported in the Year 1993, with financial assistance from United Nations Industrial Development Organization under National Leather Development Programme.

Prospectus cost: Counter Sale Rs. 600/. Through post on sending of DD of Rs. 650/- in facour of Director, CFTI payable at Agra.

Reservation: As per Govt. of India rules of SC/ST candidate. The course is not suitable for persons with disability viz Blindness or Orthopadically handicapped/Locomotor Disability/cerebral paisy with one Arm or one Leg affected as the trainees have to operate Heavy Footwear Machinery during the training.
