About College:

Institute of Nano Science and Technology (INST), Mohali (Punjab), an autonomous institution of Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, has been established under the umbrella of NANO MISSION, initiated by DST to boost research and development in the field of Nano science and Nanotechnology in India. INST started its activities on 3rd January 2013, the date on which its first Director was appointed. The institute is currently operating from its transit campus at Habitat Centre, Sector-64, Phase-X, Mohali, Punjab. Eligibility:
A three-year bachelor's degree (10+2+3) or equivalent in any discipline from a recognized university with at least 50% aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA. 

Candidates appearing in the final year of the Bachelor's Degree can also apply provided they furnish the proof of having met the minimum eligibility criteria by September 20, 2019. They should have appeared in all the examinations of their graduation by the time of commencement of the programme. The candidates failing to meet the minimum eligibility criteria will be asked to withdraw from the programme. The tuition fee paid by such candidates will be forfeited unless such vacant seats are filled by other candidates.

Application Procedure: Application and Entrance Test (Common Admission Test)

Entrance Test: Applicants are required to appear for the Common Admission Test [CAT 2018] conducted by Indian Institute of Management (IIM). The CAT examination conducted at different centres all over the country on 25th November 2018 [refer CAT Bulletin for further details at https://iimcat.ac.in/ The candidates aspiring for admissions at the Institute of Management, Nirma University are required to apply to the Institute separately. The Institute will receive the test scores from IIM for those candidates applied to the Institute. 

IIM, have no role either in the selection process or in the conduct of the programme.
Foreign students/NRI/Person of Indian origin/Gulf Countries and South Est Asia candidates can be considered for admission on the basis of their GMAT scores also [not taken before July 2017].

However, NRI sponsored candidates will be considered for admission only on the basis of CAT-2018 scores. GMAT scores will not be considered for NRI sponsored categories.

Online Application Form: Applicants should complete the online application form through visit the college website with non-refundable admission processing fee of Rs. 1500/- or US $35. The payment should be made online by credit card/debit card/net banking.

Candidates applying under categories such  NRI/NRI Sponsored/Foreign students/Person of Indian origin holding foreign passport/Gulf Countries and South East Asia candidates should make non-refundable admission processing fee of Rs. 6000/- or US $135. 

A candidate who has applied for admission under general category can convert the application to any other category in which she or he is eligible. ·         The candidate must have minimum 3 year’s Bachelor’s Degree, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA in any discipline from any University incorporated by an Act of the Central or State legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India. The Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent qualification obtained by the candidate must entail a minimum of three years of education after completing higher secondary schooling (10+2) or equivalent. Candidates appearing for the final examination for the Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent examination) and completing all requirements for obtaining the Bachelor’s degree by 30th June, 2019 can also apply, subject to furnishing evidence to that effect latest by 1st October, 2019; otherwise they may be asked to withdraw from the programme.

Selection Process:

Candidates who have appeared for the CAT (2018) will be short listed on the basis of the details filled in the application form and their CAT scores. Only the shortlisted candidates will then be called for Group Discussion and Personal Interviews during February and March 2019 at one of the centres, viz. Bangalore, Gurgaon, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Chennai and Mumbai (centres other than Gurgaon are tentative).

Eligibility for PGPIM:

·         For PGP-IM, on successful completion of the programme requirements, student will be awarded a Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGP-IM) from MDI Gurgaon and MIM (Masters in Management) from ESCP Europe.

·         Candidates must have 50% marks or equivalent CGPA in both X and XII along with Masters or Bachelors (4 years minimum) with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA in any discipline from any University incorporated by an Act of the Central or State legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India and a minimum of 1 year (one-year) of work experience post-qualification (4-year's Bachelor's degree) on the last date of application.

The basis for computing the percentage obtained by the candidate would be based on the practice followed by the university/ institution/board from where the candidate has obtained the degree/certificate. In case of the candidates being awarded grades/CGPA instead of marks, the equivalence would be based on the equivalence certified by the university/ institution/board from where they have obtained bachelor’s degree/certificate. In case the university/ institution /board does not have any scheme for converting CGPA into equivalent marks, the equivalence would be established by MDI by dividing obtained CGPA with the maximum possible CGPA and multiplying fraction so obtained by 100.

However, the final selection may be based on a higher cut-off percentage depending on the total number of applicants for the program. About College:

The history of the IIT system dates back to 1946 when a committee was set up by Hon'ble Sir Jogendra Singh, Member of the Viceroy's Executive Council, Department of Education, Health and Agriculture to consider the setting up of Higher Technical Institutions for post war industrial development in India. The 22 member committee headed by Sri N.R.Sarkar, in its report, recommended the establishment of four Higher Technical Institutions in the Eastern, Western, Northern and Southern regions, possibly on the lines of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA, with a number of secondary institutions affiliated to it. The report also urged the speedy establishment of all the four institutions with the ones in the East and the West to be started immediately. The committee also felt that such institutes would not only produce undergraduates but they should be engaged in research, producing research workers and technical teachers as well. The standard of the graduates should be at par with those from first class institutions abroad. They felt that the proportion of undergraduates and postgraduate students should be 2:1. 
With the above recommendations of the Sarkar committee in view, the first Indian Institute of Technology was born in May 1950 in Hijli, Kharagpur, in the eastern part of India. Initially the IIT started functioning from 5, Esplanade East, Calcutta and very soon shifted to Hijli in Sept. 1950. The present name 'Indian Institute of Technology' was adopted before the formal inauguration of the Institute on August 18, 1951, by Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. IIT Kharagpur started its journey in the old Hijli Detention Camp where some of our great freedom fighters toiled and sacrificed their lives for the independence of our country. The history of IIT Kharagpur is thus intimately linked with the history of the Hijli Detention Camp. This is possibly one of the very few Institutions all over the world which started life in a prison house.

Eligibility:

1.1. All candidates seeking admission to the Ph.D. program under the categories mentioned below shall have to possess requisite marks/grades in the qualifying degree as shown below:

a)    Minimum 60% marks or a CGPA of 6.5 in 10 point scale in the qualifying examination (1.2.a and/or    1.2.b) in Engineering /Science /Commerce /Management/ Law and/or equivalent OR

b)    Minimum 55% marks or a CGPA of 6.0 in 10 point scale in the qualifying examination (1.2.a and/or  1.2.b) in Humanities/Social Science/MBBS degree and/or equivalent

Note: CGPA will not be converted into percentage marks if the degree awarding Institute provides marks in CGPA system. Their admission will be based on the CGPA awarded in the transcript.

1.2. a) Minimum qualifying degree required for seeking admission to the Ph.D. program 

a)    M.Tech (Master of Technology) / MS / ME (Master of Engineering)/ M.Sc.(Engg.,)

b)    M. Arch./ MCP (Master of City planning) /MRP (Master of Regional Planning)

c)    M. Phil. (2 years programme)

d)    MBA / PG Diploma in Management of 2-year duration (after completion of B.Tech/M.Sc/MA/M.Com)  

e)    LLM (2 years programme) after EITHER at least 5 years of integrated LLB degree after 10+2 examination OR 3 years LLB degree after 10+2+3 examination

f)    An equivalent of the aforesaid degree OR

1.2. b) Minimum qualifying degree required for seeking admission to the Ph.D. program.

a)    B.Tech. (Bachelor of Technology)/ BE (Bachelor of Engineering)/ B.Sc (Engg.)

b)    B.Arch. (Bachelor of Architecture)

c)    M.Sc. (Master of Science) / MA (Master of Arts) / M. Phil. (1 year program)

d)    MBA / PG Diploma in Management of 2-year duration (after completion of BA/B.Sc/B.Com)

e)    MBBS degree with compulsory one-year internship completed

f)    5 years (minimum) of integrated LLB degree after 10+2 examination OR 3 years LLB degree after 10+2+3 examination OR LLM (1 year programme) after LLB degree (minimum 5 years)

g)    A degree equivalent to any of the above.

Eligibility:

Detailed criteria set by individual departments for PhD admissions:

·         Department of Biological Sciences: The applicant should have M. Sc./ B. Tech/ MBBS/ M. Tech or equivalent degree and should have a valid GATE(Life Sciences/ Biotechnology/ Ecology and Evolution) / CSIR-UGC-NET/ ICMR/ DBT/ DST-Inspire fellowship.

·         Department of Chemical Sciences:  The applicant should have M. Sc./MS degree in Chemistry/ Physics or equivalent with at least 55% marks for General and OBC candidates, and 50% for SC/ST and persons with Disability (PwD), and should have a valid NET/ GATE/ DST-Inspire/equivalent national level fellowship.
Department of Mathematical Sciences:  The applicant must have qualified one of the following examinations GATE/CSIR-UGC-NET/NBHM-JRF with Mathematics as the primary subject. Applicants who have obtained the DST-INSPIRE fellowship must have taken Mathematics as their primary subject during their Master's programme.  Only applicants with an outstanding academic record and exceptional qualifications will be considered for admission.

·         Department of Physical Sciences: The applicant should have a Masters degree in Physics or a Bachelors/Masters degree in Engineering, and should have a valid GATE/ CSIR-UGC-NET-JRF/ JEST/ DST-Inspire fellowship in Physics. The student must have a good academic record in M.Sc. (minimum 55% for General and OBC category, minimum 50% for SC/ST/PD.)

·         Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences: The applicant should have M.Sc./ B.Tech/ M. Tech in Atmospheric Sciences/ Earth and Environmental Sciences/ Geology/Chemistry/ Physics/ Environmental Biotechnology/Microbiology/Biotechnology and should have a valid GATE/ CSIR-UGC-NET/ DST-Inspire fellowship.

·         Department of Humanities and Social Sciences: The PhD applicant should have M.A./M.Sc./M.Phil degree (minimum 55% for General and OBC category, minimum 50% for SC/ST/PD.) in one or more of the following subjects: Philosophy (Ethics, Indian Philosophy, Analytical Philosophy and Philosophy of Science)/ Sociology/Anthropology/ Palaeoanthropology/Archaeology / Ancient Indian History / Modern Indian History / Urban History / Political Economy / Gender Studies /Urban Studies / English Literature/Postmodernism/ Literary Theory/Science-in-theatre or related areas such as Development Studies, South Asian studies. Apart from applying online, the applicant SHOULD send a statement of proposed research (minimum 1500 words) to the following email address: hssiisermohali@gmail.com mentioning the broad subject area (History, Literature, Philosophy etc....) as the subject of the email, failing which the application may not be considered for shortlisting.
