About College:

The genesis of the National Archives of India may be traced back to the year 1860 when Sandeman, the Civil Auditor, in his report stressed the need of relieving the offices of congestion by destruction of the papers of routine nature and transfer of all valuable records to a ‘Grand Central Archive’. However, things took a concrete shape in 1889, when Professor G.W. Forrest of Elphinstone College, Bombay was entrusted the job of examining the records of the Foreign Department of the Government of India. Earlier, he had earned reputation as an Archivist for his work in the Bombay Records Office. In his report, he made a strong plea for transferring all records of the administration of East India Company to a Central Repository. As a result, Imperial Records Department (IRD) came into existence on 11 March 1891 which was located in Imperial Secretariat Building at Calcutta (Kolkata). Professor G.W Forrest was made its Officer in Charge. His main task was to examine, transfer, arrange and catalogue records of all the Departments and to organise a Central Library in place of various Departmental Libraries. After G.W. Forrest, the work at Imperial Records Department (IRD) progressed well under S.C. Hill (1900), C.R. Wilson (1902), N.L. Hallward (1904), E. Denison Ross (1905), A.F. Scholfield (1915), R.A. Blaker (1919), J.M. Mitra (1920) and Rai Bahadur A.F.M. Abdul Ali (1922-1938) who were scholars as well as Records Keepers in their own right.

Reasons Why Commerce Students Should Pursue a Specialized Course

You pushed yourself hard for that B. Com admission and put in full dedication for those three years. Moreover, now, you have got your B. Com degree all framed and hanged on your bedroom wall. Well, congratulations! You know what job profiles you can explore with that degree. However, do you know how well you can establish yourself financially after pursuing a specialization?

There are many benefits of pursuing a specialization after B. Com admission and degree but choosing the right specialization is one of the most difficult parts. Why? Because the specialization you choose will decide the career path and even the money that you will make. For example, you want to be a part of the finance department of any of the MNCs, a specialization in taxation will open doors of various organizations for you.

Not just this, specialization in taxation will make you entitled to work with various firms & companies, government departments, banks, agencies, educational institutions and many other types of organizations in their Taxation and Finance department.

Now let’s have a look at why specialization in any field holds importance in the corporate culture.

Industry Oriented Curriculum

Many colleges and universities offer an industry-oriented curriculum that makes the students thoroughly prepared to step in the corporate world. The entire curriculum is based on the on-going demands of the industry and hence imparts the exact knowledge that the students require.

In-Depth Knowledge of One Field

It is always a great step to gain in-depth knowledge about one industry or domain and further take measures to make a mark in that field. Even MNCs and corporate look for candidates who have in-depth knowledge about the domain. For example, if two candidates, one with B. Com degree and the other with B. Com (Hons.) Taxation degree apply for the same position in the company, weightage will be given to the one with specialization.

Recognition from the Corporate World

As stated above, companies consider those candidates with higher qualification and better domain knowledge. Whether you apply for the position of Tax Policy Analyst, Risk Analyst, Tax Examiner or Financial Analyst, your specialization will help you bag the role. Furthermore, you will receive recognition in the industry as well.

Polished Skillset

You might be good with numbers and great at what you do. However, there isn’t any harm in working towards polishing the skillset that you have. When you pursue a specialized course after your commerce degree, your skillset is further polished and starts getting noticed by industry experts. So, it’s not just your B. Com admission and degree that counts, but the specialization as well.

Final Words!

To climb the ladder of success, you must leave no stone unturned. From getting the right degree to further having a specialization in it, you should do it all. Another thing to consider is the college or university to pursue the specialization. Trust us, it makes a lot of difference. Universities like UPES follow an industry-aligned approach to make all their students ready to take on the role from day one. So, if you want to make it big, go for a specialization after you have completed your B. Com admission and degree.
