IIM Shillong has been set up with a vision of providing good quality management education and research in the North Eastern region of India. Second Joint Indo-American Team (1960) headed by Dr. N.S. Randhawa recommended specifically the establishment of Farm Universities and spelt out the basic objectives of these Universities asInstitutional Autonomy ,Inclusion of Agriculture, Veterinary / Animal Husbandry and Home Science and Integration of Teaching, Research and Extension .Later, the report of the Second National Education Commission (1964-66), headed by Dr. D.S. Kothari stressed the need for establishing at least one Agricultural University in each Indian State. As a result, the Andhra Pradesh Agricultural University (APAU) was established on June 12, 1964 at Hyderabad. Sri O. PullaReddi, I.C.S. (Retired) was the first Vice-Chancellor of the University.

In accordance with the provisions of the Andhra Pradesh Agricultural University Act, 1963, some of the Colleges of Agriculture and Veterinary Science were transferred from the Universities to which they had been affiliated to the Andhra Pradesh Agricultural University during June, 1964. These were: College of Agriculture and Veterinary Science, Hyderabad (established in 1961, affiliated to Osmania University), Agricultural College, Bapatla(established in 1945, affiliated to Andhra University), Sri Venkateswara Agricultural College, Tirupati (established in 1961, affiliated to Sri Venkateswara University) and Andhra Veterinary College, Tirupati (established in 1961, also affiliated to Sri Venkateswara University). Eligibility:

The applicant must have passed 12th standard (English Medium) from an Indian Board or an equivalent Board outside the country securing 50 per cent marks in each of the subjects of Biological Sciences and Physical Sciences. A good knowledge of English is compulsory. A certificate of the candidate’s proficiency in English issued by the respective Indian Mission

abroad or recognized agencies should accompany their applications for admission. The students seeking admission under the quota are not required to appear for any Entrance test(s).

Criteria for selection:

The selection of candidates shall be based on the merit list prepared on the basis of the marks secured in Intermediate (10+2) or its equivalent. In case of a tie, the marks in the optional subjects viz., Botany, Zoology, Physics and Chemistry shall be taken into consideration and in case of further tie, the age of the candidate shall be taken into consideration and the older candidates shall be given preference. 

Age limit:

The applicant should have completed 17 years of age as on 31st December of the year of admission with an upper age limit of 22 years.

About College:

Bangalore University, Bangalore was established in 1964 as an off shoot of University of Mysore, primarily to include institutions of higher learning located in the metropolitan city and the districts of Bangalore, Kolar and Tumkur which eventually became a separate university. Initially, the two premier colleges of the city, the Central College and the University Visvesvaraya College of engineering formed the nucleus of Bangalore University. The University was first accredited in 2002 by NAAC with five stars status and was re-accredited in 2008 with A Grade. According to India Today-Nielsen survey, Bangalore University ranks 13th in the list of 50 top Universities in the Country. Academically, the University is structured into six faculties- Arts, Science, Commerce & Management, Education, Law and Engineering.

Course Name:

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)

Eligibility:

·         A candidate shall work for Ph.D. degree in a subject studied at the Master’s Degree or related subject under a recognized research supervisor. However, a candidate may be allowed to conduct research in a subject other than one chosen for the Master’s Degree, provided it is of an inter-disciplinary nature, with the approval of the concerned Board of Studies.

·         If the research topic is of an inter-disciplinary nature, the research supervisor may opt for a co-supervisor (not be from the same department) who shall be a recognized research supervisor of the University. However the candidate shall finalize and submit the thesis through the main research supervisor.

·         There shall be two types of research candidates: full-time and part-time candidates. Full-time Ph.D candidates undertake research on a full-time basis. The Part-time Ph.D. programme is for working persons in the University and outside such as teachers/ scientists/ professionals / librarians/ physical education personnel and those employed in various institutions/ industries/ corporations/ organizations.

·         Those in employment and wish to take up the Ph.D. programme on a full-time basis shall produce a certificate from their employer of having been sanctioned study leave. Other candidates who take up the Ph.D. programme on a full-time basis shall give an undertaking to the effect that they will not take up any job during the period of research. If the candidate takes up a job, then the full-time registration may be converted into part-time on conditions similar to part-time research.

·         The Ph.D scholar shall not be permitted to join any other course whether in regular and/or distance mode. They shall not appear for any other examination conducted by the University or any other University during the period of registration, except the Ph.D course work end examination. Any candidate who violates this provision, the registration will stand cancelled. 

·         If any candidate doing Ph.D. on a full-time basis is found to be doing a full-time job, his/ her Ph.D registration will stand cancelled.

Submission of Application:

·         The eligible candidates shall submit the application in the prescribed format given on the website (APPLICATION – A) to the Registrar (Evaluation)/ Officer designated for the purpose in response to the notification of the University.

·         If any Ph.D. candidate is found to have submitted fake records while securing admission to the Ph.D. course, his/ her registration shall stand cancelled without any notice and may also be liable for criminal action.

·         Final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy.

·         Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Institute of Open School in with a minimum of five subjects.

·         Any Public School, Board or University examination in India or in a foreign country recognized as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

·         H.S.C. vocational examination.

·         A Diploma recognized by the All India Council for Technical Education (www.aicte-india.org) or a State Board of Technical Education of at least 3 years duration.

·         General Certificate Education (GCE) examination (London, Cambridge or Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level.

·         High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva.

The Annamalai University is a unitary, teaching, and residential university. It was founded by the munificence of the farsighted and noble hearted philanthropist and patron of letters the late Hon’ble Dr. Rajah Sir Annamalai Chettiar of Chettinad, Kt, LL.D., D.Litt. ·         Teachers of Annamalai University who have put in two years of service are eligible to register for M.Phil. (Part-time) degree as per eligibility norms. Such applicants should send completed applications to the Registrar through proper channel.

Note: While granting admission to M.Phil. Programmes, due attention shall be paid to the State Reservation Policy.

Admission to Foreign Students

Students who have obtained their Master’s Degree or equivalent outside the Indian Universities system are eligible for admission to M.Phil. Programme.

·         Foreign Students selected under various scholarship schemes, either by the Ministry of Education and Culture or the Ministry of External Affairs, will be given admission on the recommendations/sponsorship of the respective Ministry

·         Preference will be given to candidates who have passed the UGC JRF / NET / SET (SLET) / Lecturership / GATE / CSIR / ICAR / ICSSR or other fellowship related examinations.
