Indian Maritime University - Visakhapatnam Campus was previously known as NSDRC. The IMU Visakhapatnam Campus emerges from the confluence of the centrally established Indian Maritime University at Chennai, and India's premier ship design and maritime research institution, the National Ship Design and Research Centre. 10+2 or equivalent (PCM - 60% average and minimum of 50% marks in English subject in 10th / 12th Examination.)

Note: In case of SC/ST candidates there will be a 5% relaxation in eligibility marks; however, it will not apply to English marks.

For Admissions to 2nd Year of B. Tech (Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering)

(a) Candidates with 60% marks overall in 4-year Diploma in Ship Building Engineering from the Institute of Ship Building Technology, Goa [OR] 3-year Diploma in Naval Architecture and Offshore Engineering from the AMET University, Chennai [OR] 3-year Diploma in Mechanical Engineering/Civil Engineering from any Institute approved by AICTE, will be eligible for admissions by Lateral Entry into the second year against the available vacant seats at the beginning of the second year.

(b) The admissions will be made in the order of merit based on aggregate percentage of marks.

(c) The candidate should have completed the diploma within its stipulated duration of 4 years or 3 years as the case may be.

(d) Age limit – 18 to 26 years.

For Admissions to 3rd Year of B. Tech (Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering)

(a) Candidates with B.Sc (Ship Building & Repair), who have at least 60% marks overall and have completed the degree within the stipulated period of 3 years, will be eligible for admissions by Lateral Entry into the third year. The number of seats for this lateral entry are ‘20’ and available only in IMU Visakhapatnam Campus.

(b) The admissions will be made in the order of merit based on aggregate percentage of marks.

(c) Age limit – 19 to 27 years.

How to Apply:

Online Registration of Applicants with facility to upload photograph, scanned signature, scanned copy of the 10th Std Mark sheet as proof of Date of Birth, scanned copy of 12th Std/ Degree Certificate (wherever applicable), scanned copy of the SC/ST/OBC(NCL)/General-EWS certificate (wherever applicable) and other relevant certificates (wherever applicable). The candidates will be able to make payment for the Registration Fees Online, and download and print the filled-in application in standard formats. Eligibility:

a) The candidate shall be an Indian National

b) The candidate should have passed the B.Tech course or equivalent from an institution approved by the All India Council for Technical Education.

c) Candidates should have a minimum of 60% aggregate marks in the engineering degree examination. For SC/ST candidates, a pass in the engineering degree course is sufficient. For SEBC/PWD candidates, a minimum of 54% (aggregate) marks in the Engineering Degree examination is mandatory.

d) Admission shall normally be restricted to those candidates who have a valid GATE Score.

e) The eligible branches of engineering for each M.Tech are given under the respective program.

f) However Non GATE candidates can also apply. They will be considered against the vacancies due to lack of candidates with valid GATE score. These unfilled GATE seats will be first filled with NON GATE candidates from Kerala State based on nativity certificate. They have to produce nativity certificate. If seats are still remaining vacant, candidates from other states will be considered for admission.

g) Candidates who have passed AMIE/AMIETE Examination in Electronics and satisfying the following conditions are also eligible for admission.

I.             They must have a valid GATE score

II.           A Minimum marks of 55% in section B in AMIE/AMIETE Examination

III.          Minimum 2 years of professional experience in the field of specialization after acquiring the qualifying degree.

h) Candidates who have appeared for the final semester examination may also apply provided he / she has passed all the subjects up to and including the 6th semester. Those who are having valid GATE score and who are waiting for the result of the supplementary examinations of the above or previous semesters can also apply. Confirmation of admission of such candidates shall be subject to the production of qualifying degree -satisfying clauses (a) to (d) as applicable on or before September 2, 2019. Such candidates may be considered for provisional admission. 1.2.2 have a minimum of four (4) years of work experience at the time of application for parttime Ph.D., if they do not possess a master’s degree: Condition on preceding degree: B.Tech. or equivalent for Engineering with minimum first class or 60% marks or CGPA/CPI of 6.0 on a scale of 10 or equivalent of 6.0 on a different scale (minimum 55% for SC/ST/PWD or CGPA/CPI of 5.5 on a scale of 10 or equivalent of 5.5 on a different scale).

1.2.3 have a minimum of one (1) year of work experience at the time of application for parttime Ph.D., if their last degree (whether B.Tech. or M.Tech. or M.Sc. or MS by Research) is from an IIT/IISER/IIIT/IISc/NIT: In case of B.Tech. or M.Sc., with minimum 80% marks or CGPA/CPI of 8.0 on a scale of 10 (minimum 75% for SC/ST/PWD or CGPA of 7.5 on a scale of 10)

1.2.4 have a minimum of one (1) year of work experience if employed as per Sub-Section 1.1.1 and have minimum first class or 60% marks or CGPA/CPI of 6.0 on a scale of 10 or equivalent of 6.0 on a different scale (minimum 55% for SC/ST/PWD or CGPA/CPI of 5.5 on a scale of 10 or equivalent of 5.5 on a different scale) in M.Tech degree in Engineering;

1.3 Fulfillment of GATE requirement may be waived for such candidates depending on prior academic performance and employment experience. However, they may be asked to take a written test.

1.4 Candidates will be asked to appear for an interview before a selection committee.

1.5 At the time of application, the candidate should submit a Sponsorship Certificate from the organization in which the candidate is employed giving an undertaking

1.5.1 that the candidate would be allowed to fulfill the coursework requirement and qualifier examination

2.6.1 that the candidate will be paid full salary during the Ph.D. program AND would be allowed to fulfill the coursework requirement and qualifier examination

2.6.2 that leave would be granted for the same and the candidate will be allowed to attend the lectures, labs etc. as per the academic schedule of IIT Goa. Where leave is granted, it would typically be required for two semesters to fulfill coursework requirement. IIT Goa will provide the format for Sponsor’s Letter (Appendix B)

2.7 A co-supervisor (must hold Ph.D. degree) at the employing organization needs to be identified and the organization should be recognized by IIT Goa. Meetings between co-supervisor and supervisor at IIT Goa should be held at least once in a year.

2.8 Appropriate facilities should exist to carry out the planned research work at the employing organization.

About College:

The history of the IIT system dates back to 1946 when a committee was set up by Hon'ble Sir Jogendra Singh, Member of the Viceroy's Executive Council, Department of Education, Health and Agriculture to consider the setting up of Higher Technical Institutions for post war industrial development in India. The 22 member committee headed by Sri N.R.Sarkar, in its report, recommended the establishment of four Higher Technical Institutions in the Eastern, Western, Northern and Southern regions, possibly on the lines of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA, with a number of secondary institutions affiliated to it. The report also urged the speedy establishment of all the four institutions with the ones in the East and the West to be started immediately. The committee also felt that such institutes would not only produce undergraduates but they should be engaged in research, producing research workers and technical teachers as well. The standard of the graduates should be at par with those from first class institutions abroad. They felt that the proportion of undergraduates and postgraduate students should be 2:1. 
With the above recommendations of the Sarkar committee in view, the first Indian Institute of Technology was born in May 1950 in Hijli, Kharagpur, in the eastern part of India. Initially the IIT started functioning from 5, Esplanade East, Calcutta and very soon shifted to Hijli in Sept. 1950.

Eligibility:

For seeking admission in part time course, Candidate must have at least 02 (two) years of experience in the relevant field after passing the qualifying examination. Experience should be from recognized institute i.e; Central/State Govt. Department, public or private sector, Undertakings located in M.P. and engaged in production/Maintenance/Construction in engineering field. In case of contractors they must be at least class 'A' Contractor.
