About College:

The genesis of the National Archives of India may be traced back to the year 1860 when Sandeman, the Civil Auditor, in his report stressed the need of relieving the offices of congestion by destruction of the papers of routine nature and transfer of all valuable records to a ‘Grand Central Archive’. However, things took a concrete shape in 1889, when Professor G.W. Forrest of Elphinstone College, Bombay was entrusted the job of examining the records of the Foreign Department of the Government of India. Earlier, he had earned reputation as an Archivist for his work in the Bombay Records Office. In his report, he made a strong plea for transferring all records of the administration of East India Company to a Central Repository. As a result, Imperial Records Department (IRD) came into existence on 11 March 1891 which was located in Imperial Secretariat Building at Calcutta (Kolkata). Professor G.W Forrest was made its Officer in Charge. His main task was to examine, transfer, arrange and catalogue records of all the Departments and to organise a Central Library in place of various Departmental Libraries. After G.W. Forrest, the work at Imperial Records Department (IRD) progressed well under S.C. Hill (1900), C.R. Wilson (1902), N.L. Hallward (1904), E. Denison Ross (1905), A.F. Scholfield (1915), R.A. Blaker (1919), J.M. Mitra (1920) and Rai Bahadur A.F.M. Abdul Ali (1922-1938) who were scholars as well as Records Keepers in their own right.

About College:

Indian Institute of Technology Tirupati is the first among the 3rd phase of IITs, announced in 2014, to have its foundation stone laid in March 2015. It started functioning with the support of it’s mentoring institute, IIT Madras from the academic year of 2015-16. The academic program was launched in August 2015 by admitting students in the B.Tech programme in the fields of Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. The curriculum has emphasis on theoretical knowledge and practice oriented laboratories. Courses are planned to nurture innovation, creativity, quality, teamwork, communication skills, ethics and societal interaction. MS and PhD programmes will be started from academic year 2017-18.

Presently, IIT Tirupati is operating from the temporary campus on Tirupati – Renigunta Road and also the transit campus at Yerpedu. The transit campus was formally inaugurated by the Director Prof. K.N Satyanarayana on 6th August 2018 and the orientation program for first year students was organized on 7th August 2018. Two boys hostels are now operational for first year students and the third hostel is almost ready for occupation by senior students. 120 and 60 seater classrooms are also ready for conducting classes for the first year students. With these arrangements, transit campus operations have started from August 2018.

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) [Research Areas: Engineering, Sciences and Humanities and Social Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences]

Eligibility:

Ph.D. in Engineering:

(a)  Candidates with a Master’s degree in Engineering/Technology or a Master’s degree by Research in Engineering/Technology with a good academic record.

(b)  Candidates with Master’s degree in Sciences with a good academic record and of exceptional merit are eligible for the relevant Engineering discipline. They should have a valid GATE score or UGC/CSIR-NET/NBHM or equivalent qualification in the relevant area tenable for the year of registration.

(c)  Candidates who have qualified for the award of Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology from a Centrally Funded Technical Institute (CFTI) with an exceptionally good academic record in an eligible discipline will be considered for direct admission to Ph.D. provided he/she has a minimum CGPA of 8/10.

Ph.D. in Sciences:

(a)  Master’s degree in Sciences with a good academic record and having a valid GATE score or UGC/CSIR-NET/NBHM/INSPIRE/JEST or equivalent qualification tenable for the current year in the relevant area. Master’s degree holders in Engineering/Technology are also eligible.

(b)  ME/M.Tech or MS by Research in Engineering or 2 year M.Sc from IITs (entry through JAM) with CGPA 8.0 and above/ BS+MS (5 year integrated) from CFTI

(c)  Candidates who have qualified for the award of Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology from a Centrally Funded Technical Institute (CFTI) with an exceptionally good academic record in an eligible discipline will be considered for direct admission to Ph.D. in Sciences provided he/she has a minimum CGPA of 8/10.

Ph.D in Humanities and Social Sciences:

Master's degree in an eligible discipline with a good academic record or equivalent and having a valid GATE score or UGC/CSIR- NET/NBHM or equivalent qualification tenable for the current year in the relevant area.

M.S. Research [Research Areas: Engineering]

Eligibility:

The minimum educational qualifications for admission to the M.S. by research degree for full time scholars are as follows:

(a)  Candidates with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology in the relevant departments with valid GATE score.

(b)  Candidates having Associate Membership of the following professional bodies are also eligible for admission to the M.S. programme of their parent discipline provided they have a valid GATE score and have passed both part A and part B of the Membership examinations with a good academic record: The Institution of Engineers (India) (Civil/Mechanical/Electrical and Electronics/Electronics and communications), The Institute of Electronics and Tele-Communication Engineering.

(c)  Engineering graduates from IITs and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTI) with a CGPA of at least 8/10 are eligible for seeking admission, without GATE score, to the MS Programme and they can be offered HTRA, if selected.

(d)  Candidates under External Registration should have the same qualification as in (a) however, valid GATE score is not required.

About College:

The history of the IIT system dates back to 1946 when a committee was set up by Hon'ble Sir Jogendra Singh, Member of the Viceroy's Executive Council, Department of Education, Health and Agriculture to consider the setting up of Higher Technical Institutions for post war industrial development in India. The 22 member committee headed by Sri N.R.Sarkar, in its report, recommended the establishment of four Higher Technical Institutions in the Eastern, Western, Northern and Southern regions, possibly on the lines of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA, with a number of secondary institutions affiliated to it. The report also urged the speedy establishment of all the four institutions with the ones in the East and the West to be started immediately. The committee also felt that such institutes would not only produce undergraduates but they should be engaged in research, producing research workers and technical teachers as well. The standard of the graduates should be at par with those from first class institutions abroad. They felt that the proportion of undergraduates and postgraduate students should be 2:1. 
With the above recommendations of the Sarkar committee in view, the first Indian Institute of Technology was born in May 1950 in Hijli, Kharagpur, in the eastern part of India. Initially the IIT started functioning from 5, Esplanade East, Calcutta and very soon shifted to Hijli in Sept. 1950.

Eligibility:

3.1. All candidates seeking admission to the Ph.D. program under the categories mentioned below shall have to possess requisite marks/grades in the qualifying degree as shown below:

a) Minimum 60% marks or a CGPA of 6.5 in 10 point scale in the qualifying examination (3.2.a and/or 3.2.b) in Engineering /Science /Commerce /Management/ Law and/or equivalent.

PhD Program for Working Professionals with Minimum Residential Requirements

Eligibility:

1) Primary Eligibility Criteria

a) Reputation of the company or organization where the candidate is working.

      The companies (private/government), research organizations, Ministries of Central and State Governments wherein the candidate is presently employed should have well established reputation & image and possibly known to the faculty members of the department in which the candidate is desirous of seeking PhD admission.

      If this is an enterprise or company, it is expected that it should have a listing in the premier stock exchanges and should have an annual turnover of at least 20 crore rupees.

      List of the reputed companies/ organizations/ firms should be updated regularly at the departmental level to verify the credentials.

      In case the department is not sure about the company/organization, the decision will be taken by a committee consisting of the Dean PGS&R, Dean UGS, Head of the Department/Centre/School and the Chairman CDC.

b) Defence or other ministries of the Government of India or any other government organizations;

c) Established industrial research and development organizations;

d) Autonomous bodies and public undertakings excluding academic institutions

2) Requisite Qualifications

a) The candidate must meet the following criteria to be shortlisted for interview and test. She/he should be having (at least) BTech/BE/MBBS/MSc degree (or equivalent degrees) from a reputed educational institution with a minimum CGPA of 8.0 in a 10 point scale or 75 percentage of marks in their Bachelor’s as well as Masters’ degree (if applicable). However, any conversion of CGPA to marks (or vice versa) to meet this criterion will not be permitted.

B) Experience: Two years of post qualification experience (experience may include stints at multiple organizations) for candidates holding Bachelor/Master degree in relevant disciplines.

3) Selection of the Candidate

a) Candidates who meet the above requirements should look out for prospective faculty members in the department where he/she is interested to register for his/her PhD degree.

b) A research proposal approved by the prospective supervisor must be submitted by the candidate at the time of the application.

c) The candidates fulfilling the above will have to appear for interview/test along with other regular candidates appearing for PhD admissions.

Established in 1984, the Institute of Microbial Technology (IMTECH) is one among the chain of 37 national laboratories, 6 units and 39 outreach centres of the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research. Eligibility:

Candidates with Master's Degree (M.Sc./M.Tech/M.Pharm) with minimum aggregate of 55% marks or equivalent in CGPA in any branch of Life sciences / Biotechnology / Physics / Chemistry / Computer Sciences or allied subject with special interest in Biology OR B.Tech (in Information Technology/Computer Sciences/ Biological Sciences or other branches with special interest in Biology) / B.Pharm / B.E. / MBBS candidates with at least 55 % (or equivalent in CGPA) may apply. B.Tech/B.Pharm/BE students who fulfill the condition for GATE-JRF fellowship (http://csirhrdg.res.in/jrfgate.pdf) are also eligible. The minimum aggregate of marks in case of SC/ST/Differently-abled candidates are 50%.

Candidates also need to have any of the valid research fellowships such as CSIR/UGC NET or DBT JRF examination (‘A’ Category) or DST INSPIRE Fellowship or ICMR JRF examination or other equivalent fellowship. Please note that valid proofs, of Fellowship examinations, and Masters’/ Bachelor’s degree or those awaiting for their final results, are mandatory for appearing in the interview. Those coming for interview must be prepared to be present in Chandigarh for two days, which is the approximate time required to finalize the admission.  No TA/DA or any other expenses will be paid for appearing in the interview. Candidates must also state their present occupation, if any, before the interview; any concealment may result in cancellation of admission at any stage.

Selection:

The eligible candidates will be called for interview at IMTECH, Chandigarh. The interview will be aimed at assessing the candidate’s knowledge, critical analysis, logical reasoning and aptitude for scientific research. The result of the selected candidates will be declared on AcSIR website. The fee for Ph.D. program is as per AcSIR fee structure. Currently, per semester fee is Rs. 7,000/- and thesis submission fees is Rs. 5,000/-.

2.    Online Application Form Phase: On completion of AcSIR Online Application form, AcSIR Application Number (AAN) will be generated e.g. AcSIR12345. This AAN shall be used in future correspondence between applicant and AcSIR.

3.    Print Acknowledgement of Admission Receipt with AcSIR Application Number (AAN).
