Patron Founder

Shri Ram Sharma Acharya, a pioneer of spiritual renaissance, was born on 20th September 1911, at Awalkheda, in Agra District. Since his childhood, he had such a keen and unswerving inclination towards spirituality that was very uncommon for the children his age. He scrupulously carried out the biddings of his guru, a great Himalayan Yogi, who appeared to him in his prayer cell, when he was 15 years of age. He predicted the golden future for mankind and gave an optimistic vision to his disciples. In the long, slow, tedious and meandering march of evolution of human consciousness, culture and civilizations over the millennium, it has been only on rare turning points that an ‘Avatar’- like multifaceted genius with superhuman attributes has appeared on the human scene to raise human consciousness to a higher nobler plane.

He endeavored 24 Mahapurushcharans of Gayatri Mahamantra; took part in the non- violent struggle for India’s independence as a volunteer; went to jail a number of times as part of the freedom struggle, and embarked upon the task of social and moral upliftment through spiritual means with the blessings of Mahatama Gandhi. The Saint-Scholar-Philosopher Pandit Shri Ram Sharma Acharya, undoubtedly, belongs to this small rare group of divine vibhutis.

Adorable Mata Bhagwati Devi, revered to be an incarnation of the Shakti of Mother Goddess Durga by the Gayatri Pariwar, has been the foremost collaborator and discipline of Gurudev Acharyashri (known as Gurudev by the disciples). She contributed the most in giving concrete shape to the ideas and dreams of her Soul-mate.

A sage, a visionary, a social reformer, Pt. Shri Ram Sharma Acharya propounded 100 points of Yug Nirman Yojna for social, intellectual and spiritual evolution. He lived a simple and disciplined life, full of devout austerity. He visited the Himalayas several times and attained spiritual eminence.

He translated the entire Vedic Vangmaya in lucid Hindi with eloquent comprehensive introductions and accomplished a feat of writing more than 3,200 enlightening books in Hindi on aall aspects of life. His writings encompass far reaching, sagacious and feasible solutions to the innumerable problems of today. The Gayatri Pariwar fraternity, Shantikunj Ashram (the headquarters of Gayatri Pariwar), an academy of moral and spiritual awakening; Brahmvarchas Research Institute which strives to synthesize science with spirituality, Akhand Jyoti Sansthan, Mathura, Gayatri Tapobhoomi, Mathura and Thousands of social reform and sadhna centers (shakti peeths) around the globe are other grand contributions of Pt. Shri Ram Sharma Acharya to the modern world.

About College:

A research institute in the frontline areas of biology and biotechnology of microorganisms, with state of the art facilities.

Introduction to the Lab

Established in 1984, the Institute of Microbial Technology (IMTECH) is one among the chain of 37 national laboratories, 6 units and 39 outreach centres of the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research. Set-up to be a fore-runner in the niche domain of microbial biotechnology, the Institute in its initial years functioned from a start-up laboratory that provided a truly world-class R&D ambience in an area of over 10,000 sq. ft. to its researchers. In September, 1989, upon completion of the permanent campus, the Institute shifted to occupy an area of about 47 acres, of which the labs covered 22 acres and the residential campus 25 acres. The Institute covering a built up area of about 3.60 lakh sq. ft., is spread over four main buildings, namely, Main R&D block, Fermentation block, Animal House, Workshop, Stores and Services area, several service building including a guest house and Cafeteria. Recently another block of almost 50000 sq. ft. area (the G.N. Ramachandran Protein Centre) has been added, to cater to R&D in all aspects of Protein science and engineering. The Institute provides laboratories which are functionally modular  and offer large, air-conditioned, clean research areas to all the scientists.

The Institute's primary asset is a team of more than 55 highly motivated scientists, with a majority of them having several years of training in world renowned laboratories. Supported by more than 300 well trained technical staff and graduate students, these scientists have built strong peer credibility both in basic and application-oriented broad thematic areas of Molecular biology and microbial genetics, Cell biology and immunology, Protein science and engineering, and Fermentation technology and applied microbiology.  These overarching focus areas required enabling research facilities, structures and practices which IMTECH has created over the years, recognized nationally to be the best, and globally at par with the best.  This required a visionary approach and objectives with a long term mandate of scientific relevance.
IMTECH’s team of scientists having cutting edge R&D expertise in the areas of: Cloning & expression of recombinant / engineered proteins & their scale-up, Understanding / manipulating proteins and their engineering, Protein structure determination through X-ray crystallography, Molecular microbiology of pathogens especially with respect to drug resistance & vaccine development, Immunology of infectious diseases, Yeast Genetics, Screening of microorganisms for novel enzymatic activities and strain improvement, Bioinformatics & high end computational biology, Microbial taxonomy and metagenomics, and allied areas like technology and business management and intellectual property protection.
That IMTECH could attract and gather a highly motivated and creative team of scientists speaks volumes of the ambience, achievements and a defined focus which are associated with it.

About College:

The urgent need to initiate advanced studies in the areas of History of Art, Conservation, and Museology has been discussed for years and the first step was taken in 1983, when diploma and post graduate diploma courses in History of International and Modern Art and their Sources and Restoration of Oil paintings were initiated in National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi. In the year 1985, the programme was shifted to National Museum and its scope was expanded to include teaching of History of Art, covering both Ancient and Modern, Eastern and Western. The programme of Restoration of Oil paintings was also widened to include the restoration of other works of art of organic and inorganic material.

With a view that the students can benefit and make a career out of these advanced studies, and because of the fact that mere diplomas may not make them eligible to apply and compete for various posts in the museums, galleries and universities, it was considered appropriate to set up an Institute that could award its own M.A. and Ph.D. degrees. Thus the Society of the National Museum Institute of the History of Art, Conservation and Museology, Delhi was formed and registered on January 27, 1989 under the Societies Registration Act, 1860. Based on the recommendation of the University Grants Commission, the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India accorded the status of 'Deemed to be University' on April 29, 1989 to the National Museum Institute of History of Art, Conservation and Museology, to be administered by the above Society.
