About College:

Desh Bhagat University, Mandi Gobindgarh came into existence under Punjab Govt’s Desh Bhagat University Act. The university derives its spirit of foundation from freedom fighter Sr. Lal Singh Ji; who fought for the independence of India and in 1972 his efforts of social work & his services in the freedom struggle were recognized by awarding him with “Tamra Patra” by Govt. of India, hence the name Desh Bhagat was contemplated. DBU has been established with the mission of pursuing excellence in higher education as envisioned by Sr. Lal Singh Ji. 

Desh Bhagat United has its campuses at Mandi Gobindgarh, Shri Muktsar Sahib, Moga, Chandigarh and Kenya. Candidates must have a master’s degree in the concerned subject from a recognized university with minimum 55% marks. B+ grade at Master's Degree (SC/ST and physically challenged/disabled candidates will get 5% relaxation in Post-Graduation marks).

Candidates who have appeared in the qualifying examination but their Results are still awaited, can appear in the entrance test but they will have to submit the original certificates of the qualifying examination before the commencement of the program.

Conditions for exemption from the Entrance Test:

Candidates who have qualified UGC-NET/CSIR (JRF) Examination/SLET/GATE or are Teacher fellowship holders or DST (INSPIRE/ICMR/any other National Agency Fellow or have Ph.D. Degree in any other subject from a recognized University, are exempted from appearing in the entrance test.

Candidates who have obtained M.Phil degree with minimum B+ grade or equivalent from Desh Bhagat University, Mandi Gobindgarh or any other recognized University as a regular student and whose admission at the M.Phil level has been through an entrance test.

Each physically handicapped student shall be required to submit a certificate from a Civil Surgeon indicating the extent of visual/physical disability and also the extent to which the disability hampers the student in pursuing his/her studies. Agra has been renowned at the national and international levels as a centre for educational excellence, and industrial developments apart from tourist attraction. The city not only attracts foreign visitors for site-seeing but the industries like Leather, Foundry and Handicrafts also made it very popular across the globe.

Although the Footwear manufacturing in this area had started centuries before Indian independence, but the sector was not fully developed, as the basic infrastructure was not available at that time. It was actually beginning of sixties when the leather producers and other entrepreneurs thought of value addition to leather by converting it into footwear and other leather goods as the basic raw material i.e. leather was available in abundance. Although, the skilled workforce was available in plenty in some parts of the country, but there was acute shortage of managerial and the supervisory staff with technical qualifications. This was a severe problem and was acting as a major hindrance in the development of the footwear industry in the country. To overcome this problem, Government of India established "Central Footwear Training Centre, Agra" in July 1963, under Small Industries Development Organization, Ministry of Industry with financial assistance from Ford Foundation. The erstwhile Centre was well equipped with latest imported machines. The prime objective of the Centre was to provide young and technically sound personnel to the footwear industry and to upgrade the knowledge and skill of the existing staff.

Additions and necessary changes have been made in the infrastructure and management of the Centre from time to time. But with the rapid growth of the footwear industry in the country and with the introduction of modern machines in the industry, great need was felt by the centre to modernize its infrastructure. To cater the requirements of the industry, complete modern plant of the footwear manufacture was imported in the Year 1993, with financial assistance from United Nations Industrial Development Organization under National Leather Development Programme.

The Central Institute of Psychiatry, Ranchi is a Government of India institution and only of its nature in eastern India. The British established this hospital on 17th May 1918 with the name of Ranchi European Lunatic Asylum. It had then a capacity of 174 patients (92 male and 82 female). It catered to the needs of the European mental patients only and it was under the direct control and management of Government of Bihar. In 1922, it was put under the control of a Board of Trustees with various participating state governments represented in the Board and in the very same year its name was changed to European Mental Hospital. The year 1922 is also notable for the fact that the Institute was affiliated to the University of London for the Diploma in Psychological Medicine examination. It was a unique phenomenon since the postgraduate training in Psychiatry was nonexistent in India in those days.It may be worth noting that this Institute has been the most premier centre for mental health in the country and it has many firsts to its credit. For example, to mention only a few, the first Occupational Therapy Department in 1922, ECT in 1943, psychosurgery and neurosurgery in 1947, clinical psychology and Electroencephalography (EEG) departments in 1948, a full fledged neuropathology section in 1952, the first use of Lithium in 1952 and chlorpromazine in 1953. A very modern radiology department with facility for sophisticated cerebral angiography, pneumoencephalography, air ventriculography, myelography etc. was established in 1954. Few other landmarks are starting a child guidance clinic in 1950, rural mental health clinic at Mander in 1967, rehabilitation centre and sheltered workshop in 1967, and industrial psychiatry unit at HEC, Ranchi in 1973. It may also be noted that the Indian Psychiatric Society was established in 1948 because of the efforts of this Institute and it is registered in Patna. The first draft of the Bill that subsequently became the Mental Health Act of India (1987) was written at C.I.P, Ranchi in 1949 by Dr. R.B. Davis, the then Medical Superintendent, Dr. S.A. Hasib, from Indian Mental Hospital, Ranchi and Dr. J. Roy, from Mental Hospital, Gwaliar. The latter two too had worked at C.I.P., Ranchi at one time or other.
