The introduction of Correspondence Courses in the Mumbai University, in the year 1971-72,Was primarily for the benefit of students who. Would have otherwise been deprived of the access to higher education. The Annual Report of the University for the year 1970-71, submitted by the Syndicate to the Senate, states as follows.” Correspondence Courses

The Syndicate at their meeting held on 26th September, 1970, considered proposal made by Shri A. N. Namjoshi, a member of the Syndicate, that the possibility of introducing Correspondence Courses and External Degree Courses in the University for the benefit of a large number of Students who cannot avail themselves of the facilities of Morning/Evening classes, be explored. The suggestion was referred by the Syndicate to the Academic Council and the Council appointed a committee to consider it.

The Academic Council, at its meeting held on 24th March, 1971, approved the report of its Committee and recommended to the Syndicate, inter alia, as under:  

1.      that Correspondence Courses in the Faculties of Arts and Commerce, with English as  the medium of correspondence, instruction and examination, be started from June, 1971 for the  First Year Arts and Commerce examinations and progressively thereafter up to the graduate level; 

2.      that enrolment be restricted to persons residing within the University area viz. Greater  Bombay; 

3.      that eligibility requirements, the curricular content, the mode of examination and the Degree to be awarded be the same as for the regular day student of the University; 

The recommendation has been accepted by the Syndicate"

The Correspondence Courses were, then introduced in the University with a nomenclature as  "The Directorate of Correspondence Courses" for which correspondence instructions were to be given at the First Year Arts and First Year Commerce Examination to be held in the first half of the year 1972. Initially, it started with the meager registration of 845 students which has grown up to a staggering figure of about 69,792 students in the year 2008, 2009.

About College:

The Central Institute of Psychiatry, Ranchi is a Government of India institution and only of its nature in eastern India. The British established this hospital on 17th May 1918 with the name of Ranchi European Lunatic Asylum. It had then a capacity of 174 patients (92 male and 82 female). It catered to the needs of the European mental patients only and it was under the direct control and management of Government of Bihar. In 1922, it was put under the control of a Board of Trustees with various participating state governments represented in the Board and in the very same year its name was changed to European Mental Hospital. The year 1922 is also notable for the fact that the Institute was affiliated to the University of London for the Diploma in Psychological Medicine examination. It was a unique phenomenon since the postgraduate training in Psychiatry was nonexistent in India in those days.It may be worth noting that this Institute has been the most premier centre for mental health in the country and it has many firsts to its credit. For example, to mention only a few, the first Occupational Therapy Department in 1922, ECT in 1943, psychosurgery and neurosurgery in 1947, clinical psychology and Electroencephalography (EEG) departments in 1948, a full fledged neuropathology section in 1952, the first use of Lithium in 1952 and chlorpromazine in 1953. A very modern radiology department with facility for sophisticated cerebral angiography, pneumoencephalography, air ventriculography, myelography etc. was established in 1954. Few other landmarks are starting a child guidance clinic in 1950, rural mental health clinic at Mander in 1967, rehabilitation centre and sheltered workshop in 1967, and industrial psychiatry unit at HEC, Ranchi in 1973. It may also be noted that the Indian Psychiatric Society was established in 1948 because of the efforts of this Institute and it is registered in Patna. The first draft of the Bill that subsequently became the Mental Health Act of India (1987) was written at C.I.P, Ranchi in 1949 by Dr. R.B. Davis, the then Medical Superintendent, Dr. S.A. Hasib, from Indian Mental Hospital, Ranchi and Dr. J. Roy, from Mental Hospital, Gwaliar. The latter two too had worked at C.I.P., Ranchi at one time or other.

About College:

Located in Kurukshetra, the land of the Bhagwadgita  Kurukshetra University is a premier institute of higher learning in India. It is spread over 400 acres of land on the south bank of the holy Brahmsarovar. Its foundation stone was laid on 11 January 1957 by Bharatratna Dr.Rajendra Prasad, the first President of theIndian Republic. Since then it has aimed at pursuing excellence in teaching and research in science, technology, humanities, social sciences, performing arts and sports.

Eligibility:

   i.          Bachelor’s/ Master’s Degree from Kurukshetra University or a degree of other university recognized by Kurukshetra University as equivalent there to with at least 50% marks (45% for SC/ST candidates) in the aggregate.

OR

 ii.          Pass in the final examination conducted by either of the (a) Institute of Chartered Accountants of India or England, or (b) Institute of Cost and Works Accounts of India or England, and (c) Institute of Company Secretaries of India.

    iii.     5% relaxation in minimum eligibility condition will be given to blind/physically and visually handicapped candidates.

    iv.     There shall be no rounding of percentage of marks from 49.5% and above to 50% for the purpose of eligibility.

      v.     Candidates must have appeared for CAT 2016 examinations.

All the necessary certificates/documents/testimonials, in original and two sets of attested Photostat copies of all such certificates/documents/testimonials, will be required at the time of Group Discussion & Interview
