The JGEEBILS test is a shared entrance test for graduate programmes in Biology and interdisciplinary life sciences. The test originated from the TIFR annual entrance test for Biology, which was used by DBS/TIFR as well as NCBS/TIFR. The motivation for this shared test is to reduce the difficulties that students faced with multiple entrance tests, and to reduce the duplication of effort by many institutions in conducting such examinations. JGEEBILS is intended to serve as a common point for students from any science discipline or engineering to start the process to apply for biology graduate programmes around India. Participating institutions contribute questions and logistical support for conducting the examination. This year the examination will be on 8th December 2019.

Each participating institution has its own admission process and eligibility criteria. The JGEEBILS test is only one step in this. In general, applicants must apply separately to each participating institution that they are interested in. Please visit the institutional websites for details of these different entrance processes.

Fee waivers: a waiver of application fee on grounds of financial distress may be requested by a letter from the principal or the head of the Department justifying the request. Students may apply online and send the waiver letter/request from the principal/HOD (On their letter head duly signed and stamped) by post to "The Asstt. Students may take the online test in multiple subjects provided the timings do not clash. Please submit separate application for each subject.

Minimum qualification for admission to the PGDM program at the Institute is three / four years bachelor’s degree with minimum 55% marks in aggregate (50% for SC/ST) in any discipline recognized by Association of Indian Universities. A candidate desirous of seeking admission in Xavier Institute of Social Service, Ranchi will have to appear in an all India level management admission test. Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT 2019) conducted by XLRI, Jamshedpur (exam date: 6th January 2019), Common Admission Test (CAT 2018) conducted by IIM Lucknow, (exam date: 25th November, 2018) and (CMAT 2019) conducted by AICTE, New Delhi are the only approved examinations through which a candidate can apply to XISS Ranchi. Step II:

Once the admission office receives the form, the admission office will send mail/courier the prospectus to the student.

Scholarship and Rewards*

The institute has the provision for awarding the following scholarship and rewards to the deserving performers.

Merit scholarship:

Rs. 1, 00,000 per year for 2 applicants having a securing at least 80 percentile in CAT/XAT.

Rs. 50,000 per year for 5 applicants having a securing at least 75 percentile in CAT/XAT.

Rs. 25,000 per year for 10 applicants having a securing at least 70 percentile in CAT/XAT.

Eligibility:

a. Educational qualifications and fellowship requirements:

The candidate must fulfill one of the following criteria:

Group A:

·         Should have a Master’s degree in any branch of biomedical/life sciences (including veterinary science, public health, pharmaceutical sciences), bioinformatics, chemistry, computer science or mathematics or a B Tech in Biotechnology from a recognized university with at least 55% marks or its equivalent (e.g.: grade B in the UGC 7-point scale).

·         Must have qualified in the JRF examination of CSIR, UGC, ICMR, DBT (category I only) or NBHM, which provides fellowship for their PhD program.

Or

·         Should have SRF fellowship from ICMR, CSIR.

Group B: (THSTI fellowships equivalent to the CSIR-UGC Fellowship amount)

a.    Should have MBBS/MDS/MPH from a recognized university/institute with at least 55% marks or its equivalent

Or

b.    BE/B Tech (computer science/biotechnology/biomedical engineering/mechanical/ electronics/electrical engineering)/B. Pharma or post-graduate degree in life sciences (all disciplines in life sciences), pharmacy, medicinal chemistry, chemistry, physics, mathematics or bioinformatics from a recognized university/institute with at least 55% marks or its equivalent along with NETLS/DBT-II category or a valid GPAT/GATE qualification.

Candidates appearing in the final qualifying examination may also apply. However, they will be required to fulfill the above academic/ fellowship requirements at the time of joining the Ph D program by 15th of January 2020.

A relaxation in marks/ grade during Master’s Degree for those belonging to SC/ ST/ OBC (non-creamy layer)/ differently-abled and any other categories will be applicable as per the UGC notification, 5th May 2016 or subsequent notification in effect of at the time of interview.

Selection procedure: Names of shortlisted candidates will be announced on our website on 20th November 2019. Shortlisted candidates will have to appear for an admission test at THSTI on 9th December at 9:30 am. Applicants who clear the admission test will be interviewed on 9th and 10th December 2019. Final selection will be made based on the applicant’s performance in the interview and the list of selected candidates will be published on the THSTI website within one working week after the interview.

Fellowship: Students from group A, selected for admission to the PhD program and holding fellowship from any of the above agencies have to activate their own fellowship. Students selected from Group B will be awarded THSTI fellowships equivalent to the CSIR-UGC Fellowship amount.

No. of seats: A maximum of 25 candidates may be selected this session.

Reservations: 27% seats for OBC (non-creamy layer), 15% seats for SC, 7.5% seats for ST and 3% seats for differently-abled person are reserved for candidates belonging to these categories.
