Admission Procedure

The Application for admission can be submitted ONLINE only. However, a candidate desirous of submitting application shall require paying through a Credit / Debit Card using Payment Gateway at the time of submission of the form after the online application form has been duly filled with all mandatory fields. Alternatively, the candidate may purchase Admission Brochure, which contains a Scratch Card bearing a unique number coated with scratchable coating. The candidate shall be required to scratch the coating gently to expose the unique number, which may be entered in the appropriate box at the time of submission of Application Form.

Hard copy of the Admission Brochure containing Scratch Card may be obtained from the selected branches of Axis Bank given on the University website, MRIU Campus and Administrative Headquarters at Faridabad and various City Offices at Guwahati, Jammu, Kolkata, Ludhiana, Patna and Ranchi on payment of 1200/-

Candidates who have qualified for post graduate degree of Periyar University or any other University recognized by the syndicate as equivalent thereto shall be eligible to register for the Degree of Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) in their respective subject and undergo the prescribed course of study in an approved institution or department ofPeriyar University.

Candidates who have qualified their postgraduate degree on or after 1st January 1991 shall be required to have obtained a minimum of 55% of marks in their respective postgraduate degrees to become eligible to register for the Degree of Master of Philosophy and undego the prescribed course of study in an approved institution or department of Periyar University.

For purposes of admission to the Ph.D programme, a candidate should have obtained a Master’s Degree with not less than a Second Class or an Equivalent grade. In the case of examinations, where classification does not exist, a minimum of 50% marks is a needed in the qualifying examination.

A candidate will be registered as a Full-time, Part-time (internal) or Part-time (external) subject to the provisions of these regulations and subject to the following: “Research fellows / Research assistants / Technical assistants / Project assistants / Training officers in extension departments approved by the University, appointed in the research projects funded by recognized agencies / Government are also eligible to register for the Ph.D programme on a full-time basis in the same department provided they satisfy the eligibility criteria laid in”.

Eligible Candidates for Ph.D., Full-time:  The following candidates are eligible to register for the full-time Ph.D., programme:

(a)   A candidate who has qualified for the Master’s degree in the faculty of Commerce of this University or equivalent thereto.

(b)  50% or more marks in the aggregate in the qualifying degree examination.

Eligible Candidates for Ph.D., Part-time:

(a)   A Teacher working in the Department of the University or of an affiliated College of the University, Higher Secondary School or High School or Polytechnic within the territorial jurisdiction of Periyar University and with a qualifying degree

(b)  A candidate employed other than as a teacher in a permanent job, within the territorial jurisdiction of the University with a minimum of four years working experience put in continuously with the qualifying degree and satisfying the rules framed separately by the Syndicate from time to time.

(c)   Research Assistants / Technical Assistants appointed by the University are eligible to register for Ph.D degree on Part-time basis in the same department.
