Criteria of year of Qualifying Examination

Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management (IITTM), an autonomous organization of the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, is one of the premier institutes in the country offering education, training, research and consultancy in sustainable management of tourism, travel and other allied sectors. West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board (WBJEEB) has announced the exam dates for Joint Entrance Examination (JEHOM-2016), which will be conducted in May 2016. The JEHOM 2016 will be held on Sunday, May 08, 2016. JEHOM is conducted for taking admission to Bachelor in Hotel Management and Catering Technology (BHMCT) program in the state of West Bengal for the session 2016.

Eligibility Criteria for JEHOM 2016:

·         The applicant must be a citizen of India.

·         Candidate should have passed, appeared in 10+2 level examination in regular mode from West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or from any other equivalent board.

·         Candidate must have obtained at least 45% marks (40% in case of candidate belonging to SC, ST, OBC-A, OBC-B category) at the qualifying examination.

·         Candidates can apply online.

·         The candidate has to take a print out of the e-challan for payment of fees of Rs. 510/- (application fee-Rs. 500/- and bank charges-Rs. 10/-). 

Paper Pattern for JEHOM 2016:

·         The test will be on 50 questions, each carrying 2 marks (full marks 100) to be completed in 1 hour. The paper contains following topics:

·         English Language-30marks–15 questions

·         General Knowledge-30marks–15 questions

·         Logical Reasoning-20marks–10 questions

·         Elementary Mathematics-20 marks–10 questions

·         All questions will be of Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) type.

·         Each question will have four answer options of which only one is correct. Each correct response will fetch 2 marks, each incorrect response will fetch (-1, 2) mark, whereas no response will fetch zero mark.

·         Multiple responses for any question will fetch (-1, 2) mark.

·         The questions will be in English language only.

SASTRA is located on the Thanjavur-Tiruchirapalli highway at a distance of 17 km from Thanjavur and 40 km from Tiruchirapalli. One of the most picturesque districts in the State, Thanjavur has the reputation of being the ‘Rice Bowl’ of Tamil Nadu. The town owns the pride of being the location of some of the most exquisite manifestations of the Chola architecture.

The Brahadeeshwara temple at Thanjavur - a UNESCO World heritage monument, is an architectural marvel and reflects the artistic skills of the imperial Cholas who ruled peninsular India in the early medieval period. Built by the Chola King Rajaraja-I in the 11th century, it is one of the tallest temples in the world. It was so designed that the Vimana never casts a shadow even at noon throughout the year. Thanjavur Palace and the Museum built by Nayaks and Marathas have an artistic elegance that speak of the town's heritage. The Palace houses an Art Gallery, a Library and a Hall of Music. The Art Gallery has an impressive collection of Chola bronze statues from the 9th and 12th centuries. The reputed Saraswathi Mahal Library houses over 30,000 Indian and European manus written on palm leaves & paper and are meticulously preserved for posterity.

Thanjavur is famous for its distinctive art style in painting, which is usually a combination of brazed and painted surfaces. These paintings have the figures and the background richly embellished with gold leaves and gems as ornaments. The town is well known for its historic traditions in art, music, dance and culture and also offers the right blend of modern entertainment. The Utkal University, established in the year 1943, is the seventeenth oldest University in India. Its present campus at Vani Vihar,BHUBANESWAR is located on a sprawling 399.9 Acre area in the heart of BHUBANESWAR, with the Sainik School to its north, National High way No.5 to its south, Regional Research Laboratory and Institute of Physics to its west and the South Eastern Railway line to its east. The Foundation stone of this Campus was laid by Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India on 1st January 1958 and the Campus was inaugurated by Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, the second President of India on 2nd January 1963. This is a teaching-cum-affiliating University. Master degree holders having secured at least 55% of marks in the above mentioned disciplines of Utkal University of Culture are eligible for Ph.D. Registration provided they qualify through an entrance test followed by an interview

Subject in which marks are not awarded equivalent grade point shall be taken as the qualifying grade/mark.

However, candidates belonging to SC/ST category and college teacher having 15-years of teaching experience shall be given relaxation of 5% marks at Master’s Degree level

Exemption from Entrance Test:

Candidates qualifying UGC-CSIR-NET-GET-ICAR-SLET-INSPIRE-RAJIV GANDHI NATIONAL FELLOW-FELLOWSHIP OF DST/ICHR/ICSSR/ICMR/DBT/Department of Culture, Govt. of  India and other National bodies/Awardees of Teachers Fellowship and such other fellowship as approved by the Vice-Chancellor from time to time are exempted from entrance test and interview

M.Phil Degree holders are also exempted from entrance test and interview provided they were admitted to the M.Phil programme through a written entrance test

Teachers of colleges/University/Institute of Higher Education and professionals with seven years teaching/professional experience shall be exempted from appearing the entrance test and interview

Netaji Subhas Open University is the premier State Open University in India. The year 1997 was the birth centenary year of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. The Chief Minister of West Bengal made an announcement at a State function that an Open University would be set up soon and dedicated to Netaji's hallowed memory. The Higher Education Minister, Govt. of West Bengal spearheaded the idea after his visit to the Open University in U.K. Under his instruction was set up a ten-member steering committee headed by late Dr. Bhaskar Ray Chowdhury, former Vice-Chancellor of Kolkata University.

Following this, a State Act (W.B. Act (XIX) of 1997 and Recognised by U.G.C.) was passed on the 20th August 1997 in favour of opening a University for imparting Distance Education. Netaji Subhas Open University was established by bifurcated Netaji Institute of Asian Studies (NIAS) and in terms of the Act of West Bengal State Legislative Assembly and is housed in Historic building of Sri Sarat Chandra Bose, elder brother of Netaji. The University started functioning with effect from July 1998 Semester, only with the Bachelor's Degree Programme in Arts & Commerce to provide an opportunity of higher education in the vernacular medium to various disadvantaged groups of aspiring learners. It is the tenth Open University of the country and the ninth State Open University.

Professor Radharaman Chakraborty, the then Director of NIAS was appointed as the first Vice Chancellor of NSOU. An Advisory body, consisting of eminent educationists and senior administrators was constituted to plan and oversee the activity of the newly opened University. They executed the preliminary set-up necessary for the functioning of the Open University and from July 1998, 31 Study Centres started functioning under Netaji Subhas Open University with a Bachelor Degree Programme (BDP) in Arts & Commerce. Since January 1999 semester further 5 study centres were opened with Arts & Commerce Courses under the BDP.

The University started Bachelor’s Degree Programme in Science subjects from January, 2000 session.

The Post Graduate Degree Programme in Science subject(Mathematics) and Arts Subjects (History and Social Work) were started in January, 2002 and January, 2004 session respectively.
