About College:

THE FOUNDER Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, one of the architects of modern India was born on October 17, 1817 in Delhi and started his career as a civil servant. The 1857 revolt was one of the turning points in Syed Ahmed's life. He clearly foresaw the imperative need for the Muslims to acquire proficiency in the English language and modern sciences, if the community were to maintain its social and political clout, particularly in Northern India. He was one of those early pioneers who recognized the critical role of education in the empowerment of the poor and backward Muslim community. In more than one ways, Sir Syed was one of the greatest social reformers and a great national builder of modern India. He began to prepare the road map for the formation of a Muslim University by starting various schools. He instituted Scientific Society in 1863 to instill a scientific temperament into the Muslims and to make the Western knowledge available to Indians in their own language.

About College:

The International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS) serves as a regional Institute for Training and Research in Population Studies for the ESCAP region. It was established in Mumbai in July 1956, till July 1970 it was known as the Demographic Training and Research Centre (DTRC) and till 1985 it was known as the International Institute for Population Studies (IIPS). The Institute was re-designated to its present title in 1985 to facilitate the expansion of its academic activities and was declared as a 'Deemed University' in August 19, 1985 under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. The recognition has facilitated the award of recognized degrees by the Institute itself and paved the way for further expansion of the Institute as an academic institution.

Master of Population Studies (MPS)

Duration: 1 Year

Eligibility:

Candidates having M.A./M.Sc. degree from a recognized university in India or abroad with a minimum of 55% (50% for reserved candidates) of aggregate marks/equivalent grade in the subjects. Anthropology, Bio-statistics, Development Studies, Economics, Geography, Health Statistics, Mathematics, Population Studies, Political Science, Population Education, Psychology, Rural Development, Social Work, Sociology, and Statistics will be eligible for admission. Candidates having Master degree, other than subjects specified above and having at least two years of experience in Population and Health related field are also eligible to apply. Eligible foreign candidates can also apply for admission provided if they secure financial support from any outside agency.

Candidates who have already passed the qualifying degree examinations and those who have already appeared/ shall be appearing in the final qualifying examinations are eligible to apply. However, the admission of the candidate will be cancelled, if s/he fails to furnish final result by September 30, 2020.

The upper age limit of application is 28 years as on June 30, 2020. Marks and age will be relaxed for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/PWD/EWS reserved categories and female candidates as per Government of India rules only.

Selection Criteria for MPS Course

The admission to M.P.S. course is through a two-stage process: (i) Online Test, (ii) a Personal Interview. The Online Entrance Test will comprise objective type questions of multiple choices. The syllabus of Entrance Test will consist of Basic General Knowledge, Logical Reasoning, English Grammar, Basic Mathematics, Population, Health and Social Science issues. The test venue will be notified in the Admit Card. Based on the performance in the Online Test, shortlisted candidates will be called for personal interview at IIPS. Final selection will be based on the weighted average of scores of Online Test and personal interview.

Shortlisted candidates appearing for admission test are entitled to claim sleeper class train fare by the shortest route on production of original tickets and in case of road journey normal fare will be paid only for travel by public transport run by a Government body.

Students who have qualified UGC/CSIR-JRF or any other national level fellowship are encouraged to apply for this programme. Eligible foreign candidate can also apply for admission, provided they secure financial support from any outside agency/government. Candidate who have already passed the qualifying examination and those who have already appeared/ shall be appearing in the final qualifying examinations are eligible to apply. However, admission of the candidate will be cancelled if s/he fails to furnish the final examination result by September 30, 2020.

Fellowship: Government of India Fellowships @ Rs. 25,000/- per month for 1st and 2nd years and Rs. 28,000/- per month for 3rd and 4th years available for the Indian students who have qualified NET for Lectureship in Population Studies or its inter-disciplinary subjects conducted by the UGC. Such Ph.D. fellowship also carries a contingency grant of Rs. 10,000/- per year for the first two years and Rs. 20,500/- for the third year. However the candidates without NET qualification shall be awarded fellowship @ Rs. 12,000/- per month for the 1st and 2nd years, and Rs. 14,000/- per month for the 3rd and 4th years, with a contingency grant of Rs. 10,000/- per year. In addition, UGC-JRF and other fellowship holders will also be considered for admission.

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Part-Time

Eligibility:

The part-time Ph.D programme shall be open to candidates with Master’s degree and at least five years of work experience after Master’s Degree in the field of Population Studies/Demography/Public Health in academic institutions/central and state governments/research and development organizations, who are unable to pursue the doctoral programme in full-time mode. The applicants for part-time Ph.D programme shall be exempted from appearing for the online entrance test. The Pre-Ph.D course work (six months duration) shall be compulsory for the candidates admitted to the Ph.D programme under part-time mode. Total duration of part-time Ph.D programme shall be for a minimum of four years (including coursework) and maximum of six years.

No Age Limit.

Selection Criteria: Candidates should apply online. However, they are required to send a hard copy of research proposal to the Institute. Selection will be selected based on off-line written test and personal interview conducted by the Ph.D Admission Committee of the Institute. Foreign students are exempted from personal interview. Eligibility:

Candidates having Ph.D. degree in Population Studies or subjects related with Population, Health, Gender, Development and Social Sciences are eligible to apply. Eligible foreign candidates can also apply for admission, provided they secure financial support from any outside agency. Female candidates are encouraged to apply for the P.D.F. Desirable: Publications in peer reviewed journals/edited books. The upper age limit is 40 years as on June 30, 2020.

Fellowship: The selected Indian candidates will be awarded Government of India fellowship @Rs. 50,000/- per month for one year.

Selection Criteria: Selection will be based on the research proposal presentation and personal Interview. Foreign students are exempted from personal interview. The Institute shall not bear travel expense of the candidates called for the presentation and interview. All selected candidates shall be paid to-and-fro economy class air-fare expenses at the time of joining and completing the programme. M.A. Population Studies (Through Distance Mode of Education)

Eligibility:

Admission to this course is open to all those with a Bachelor’s degree in any social science subject/Health/Maths/ Stats or any similar degree recognized by Indian/Foreign universities with 50 percentage marks for general candidates and 45 percentage marks for the candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC and PWD category. Candidates having master’s degree and also those who are having work experience will be given due weightage. The cut off percentage can further be reduced by the admission committee for candidates with any additional qualifications. Reservation criteria will be followed as per the Government of India norms. About College:

The genesis of the National Archives of India may be traced back to the year 1860 when Sandeman, the Civil Auditor, in his report stressed the need of relieving the offices of congestion by destruction of the papers of routine nature and transfer of all valuable records to a ‘Grand Central Archive’. However, things took a concrete shape in 1889, when Professor G.W. Forrest of Elphinstone College, Bombay was entrusted the job of examining the records of the Foreign Department of the Government of India. Earlier, he had earned reputation as an Archivist for his work in the Bombay Records Office. In his report, he made a strong plea for transferring all records of the administration of East India Company to a Central Repository. As a result, Imperial Records Department (IRD) came into existence on 11 March 1891 which was located in Imperial Secretariat Building at Calcutta (Kolkata). Professor G.W Forrest was made its Officer in Charge. His main task was to examine, transfer, arrange and catalogue records of all the Departments and to organise a Central Library in place of various Departmental Libraries. After G.W. Forrest, the work at Imperial Records Department (IRD) progressed well under S.C. Hill (1900), C.R. Wilson (1902), N.L. Hallward (1904), E. Denison Ross (1905), A.F. Scholfield (1915), R.A. Blaker (1919), J.M. Mitra (1920) and Rai Bahadur A.F.M. Abdul Ali (1922-1938) who were scholars as well as Records Keepers in their own right.

To trace the history of Jadavpur University is to trace a part of India’s freedom movement, at least from the Swadeshi Movement onwards. It was 1905 -1906. Bengal stood divided. The times were feverish. The hegemony of the British establishment had to be challenged. Education had to play a new role in this changed scenario. The foundation of the NCE was made possible by the munificence - scholarly as well as monetary - of the likes of Raja Subodh Chandra Mallik , Brajendra Kishore Roychowdhury of Gouripur as well as Sir Rash Behari Ghosh (first President of NCE), poet Rabindranath Tagore and Sri Aurobindo Ghosh. In 1910 the Society for the Promotion of Technical Education in Bengal which looked after Bengal Technical Institute (which later became College of Engineering and Technology, Bengal) was amalgamated to NCE. NCE henceforth looked after the College of Engineering and Technology, Bengal which by 1940 was virtually functioning as a University. After Independence, the Government of West Bengal, with the concurrence of the Govt. of India, enacted the necessary legislation to establish Jadavpur University on the 24th of December 1955.

The National School of Drama is one of the foremost theatre training institutions in the world and the only one of its kind in India. It was set up by the Sangeet Natak Akademi as one of its constituent units in 1959. National Entrance Screening Test (NEST) is a compulsory test for students seeking admission to National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER) Bhubaneswar and University of Mumbai - Department of Atomic Energy Centre for Excellence in Basic Sciences (UM-DAE CEBS), Mumbai. Both NISER and UM-DAE CEBS were set up by Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India in 2007. WEST BENGAL UNIVERSITY OF HEALTH SCIENCES (WBUHS) For the purposes of affiliating, teaching and ensuring proper and systematic instruction, training and research in Modern System of Medicine, Homoeopathic System of Medicine, Ayurvedic System of Medicine, Unani System of Medicine, Nursing Education, Pharmacy Education, Dental Education, Education on Laboratory Technology, Physiotherapy, Speech Therapy and Education on other paramedical courses ‘THE WEST BENGAL UNIVERSITY OF HEALTH SCIENCES ACT – 2002’ was passed by the West Bengal Legislature and ‘The West Bengal University of Health Sciences’ came into existence on 1st January, 2003 at DD-36, Sector-1, Salt Lake, Kolkata-700 064. From 2003 the University took up the responsibility of Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Post-doctoral courses including the Ph. D programme in Modern System of Medicine, Homoeopathic System of Medicine, Ayurvedic System of Medicine, Unani System of Medicine, Nursing Education, Pharmacy Education, Dental Education, Physiotherapy, Speech Therapy and Education on other paramedical courses like Occupational Therapy and Prosthetics-Orthotics in the state of West Bengal.

Eligibility:

·         B. Sc. MLT / BMLT from any recognized University with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate of all subjects in the different years.

·         B. Sc. in any Biological Science with DMLT from State Medical Faculty or its equivalent.

·         B. Sc. (Honours) in Microbiology for M. Sc. Medical Laboratory Technology in Microbiology.

·         B. Sc. (Honours) in Biochemistry for M. Sc. Medical Laboratory Technology in Biochemistry

·         Candidates will have to fill in the proforma annexed at the end of this notice and submit it to the office of Controller of Examinations. An examination fee of Rupees Three thousand (Rs. 3000/-) will have to be paid through a demand draft drawn in favour of “The West Bengal University of Health Sciences” payable at Kolkata at the time of submission of the application form.

·         The last date of submission of the form at the University is 7th February 2020. However applications sent by post will be accepted till 11th February, 2020 provided the date of purchase of the demand draft is before 7th February 2020.

·         All candidates are instructed to have a photocopy of the application form with them which will be used as the proof of submission of the application form.
