About College:

The University of Delhi is the premier university of the country and is known for its high  standards in teaching and research and attracts  eminent scholars to  its faculty. It  was  established in  1922 as a unitary, teaching and residential  university by an Act of the then Central Legislative  Assembly.

The President of India is the Visitor,  the Vice  President is  the Chancellor and  the  Chief Justice  of the Supreme Court of India is the Pro-Chancellor of the University.Ever since its  inception, a strong  commitment to  excellence in  teaching and research has  made the University of Delhi a role-model and path-setter for other universities in the country. When the  University  took birth, only  three  colleges  existed  in Delhi then:  St.  Stephen’s   College founded  in 1881,  Hindu College founded in 1899 andRamjas College  founded  in  1917, which were subsequently affiliated to it. The University thus had a modest beginning with just three colleges, two faculties (Arts and Science) and about 750 students. In October 1933, the University   offices and the Library shifted to the Viceregal Lodge Estate, and till today this site houses the offices of the main functionaries of the University. The University has grown into one of the largest universities in India. At present, there are 16 faculties, 86 academic departments, 77   colleges  and 5  other  recognised   institutes  spread all over the city, with 132435 regular  students   (UG: 114494,PG:17941) and 261169 students (UG:258831,PG:2338) in non-formal education programme.

The Osmania University, established in 1918, is the seventh oldest in the country, third oldest in South India and the first to be established in the princely State of Hyderabad.  Though the need for a university for the Hyderabad State was felt, both by the intelligentsia and the people for a long time, the initiative came from a civil servant, Sir Akbar Hydari, who was then the Home Secretary to the State Government.  Sir Akbar, in a Memorandum to the Education Minister in early 1917, emphasized the need to establish a University for Hyderabad with ‘Urdu’ as the medium of instruction “as it is the language of the widest currency in India, official language of the State, and it is a language which is understood by a vast majority of the population of the State.”  He believed that higher education must have its foundations deep in the national consciousness.

Karnataka Exams Authority (KEA) has announced the exam dates for Post Graduate Common Entrance Test (PGCET-2016), which will be conducted in July 2016. The PGCET will be held on Saturday, July 02, 2016 and Sunday, July 03, 2016. KEA PGCET is conducted for taking admission to 1st year, 1st semester of Masters of Engineering (M.E), Masters of Technology (M.Tech), Master of Computer Application (MCA), lateral entry to MCA, Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Masters in Architecture (M.Arch) programs for the session 2016.

Eligibility Criteria for KEA PGCET 2016:

For MCA Program: A candidate who has passed any recognized under graduate examination or equivalent examination with Mathematics or Statistics or Computer Science or Computer Applications or Computer Programming or Business Mathematics or Business Statistics as one of the optional subjects and obtained an aggregate minimum of 50% marks taken together in all the subjects in all the years of the degree examination is eligible for admission to MCA program.

For M.E, M.Tech, M.Arch Programs: A candidate who has passed qualifying examination or equivalent examination as prescribed by the Competent Authority and obtained an aggregate minimum of 50% marks taken together in all the subjects of all the years , semesters of the degree examination is eligible for admission to M.E. ,M.Tech , M.Arch programs.

Candidates can apply online from Tuesday, May 24, 2016 from 4pm.

Jamia Millia Islamia, an institution originally established at Aligarh in United Provinces, India in 1920 became a Central University by an act of the Indian Parliament in 1988. In Urdu language, Jamia means ‘University’, and Millia means ‘National’.

The story of its growth from a small institution in the pre-independence India to a central university located in New Delhi—offering integrated education from nursery to research in specialized areas—is a saga of dedication, conviction and vision of a people who worked against all odds and saw it growing step by step. They “built up the Jamia Millia stone by stone and sacrifice by sacrifice,” said Sarojini Naidu, the nightingale of India.

Conception

Under the colonial British rule, two dominant trends joined hands and contributed towards in the birth of Jamia. One was the anti-colonial Islamic activism and the other was the pro-independence aspiration of the politically radical section of western educated Indian Muslim intelligentsia. In the political climate of 1920, the two trends gravitated together with Mahatma Gandhi as a catalyst. The anti-colonial activism signified by the Khilafat and the pro-independence aspirations symbolised by the non-cooperation movement of the Indian National Congress helped to harness creative energies and the subsequent making of Jamia Millia Islamia. Rabindranath Tagore called it “one of the most progressive educational institutions of India”.

Responding to Gandhiji’s call to boycott all educational institutions supported or run by the colonial regime, a group of nationalist teachers and students quitAligarh Muslim University, protesting against its pro-British inclinations. The prominent members of this movement were Maulana Mehmud Hasan, Maulana Mohamed Ali, Hakim Ajmal Khan, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad Ansari, and Abdul Majid Khwaja.

About College:

Lady Hardinge Medical College (LHMC), New Delhi was established in 1914. The college and hospital was formally opened by Lord Hardinge the then viceroy of India on in 1916. Since 1950, the college has been affiliated to University of Delhi. In view of considerable demand for post-graduate students, post-graduate courses were started in 1954 in affiliation with Punjab University and later on with University of Delhi in 1956. To start with only female post-graduate students were admitted, but since 1970 both males and female students are being enrolled for various postgraduate courses.

Presently LHMC is admitting 92 PG candidates. Post Graduate admission will be increased in the coming years to implement OBC reservation. Starting in 1916 with only 80 beds for the departments of Medicine, Obstetrics and gynecology, LHMC has now bed strength of 877 beds in Smt. S.K. Hospital and 370 beds in KalawatiSaran Children Hospital. A separate outpatient block was started in 1958 to cater to the needs of ever increasing population of Delhi.
