About College:

The PGIMER owes its inception to the vision of late Sardar Partap Singh Kairon, the then Chief Minister of Punjab and the distinguished medical educationists of the then combined state of Punjab, supported by the first Prime Minister of India Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru who considered the institutions of scientific knowledge as temples of learning and the places of pilgrimage. The institute started in 1962 and Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru inaugurated the hospital now named “Nehru Hospital” on 7th July 1963. The Institute was originally under the Government of undivided Punjab. After the reorganization of the state, the administrative control of the institute passed on to the Union Territory of Chandigarh in November 1966.  The Institute became an autonomous body under the Act of Parliament in 1967 functioning under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, with the following mandate. 

Provide high quality patient care. 

Attain self-sufficiency in postgraduate medical education and to meet the country’s need for highly qualified medical teachers in all medical and surgical fields.

Provide educational facilities for the training of personnel in all-important branches of health activity.

Undertake basic community based research.

The founders of this Institute Prof. Tulsi Das, Prof. Santokh Singh Anand, Prof. PN Chuttani, Prof. BN Aikat, Prof. Sant Ram Dhall and Prof. Bala Krishna laid the path of excellence for the Institute.

Qualifying Examination

No candidate shall be allowed to be admitted to the First Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) course until he/she has passed a qualifying examinations as under:

The Higher Secondary Examination or the Indian School Certificate examination which is equivalent to 10+2 Higher Secondary Examination after a period of 12 Years of study, the last two years of study comprising of Physics, Chemistry and Biology with English at a level not less than the core course for English prescribed by the National Council for Educational Research and Training after the introduction of the 10+2+3 years educational structure as recommended by the National Committee on education;

(Note: Where the course content is not as prescribed for 10+2 education structure of the National Committee, the candidates will have to undergo a period of one year pre-professional training before admission to the Medical Colleges)

The Intermediate examination in science of an Indian University/Board or other recognized examining body with Physics, Chemistry and Biology which shall include a practical test in these subjects and also English as a compulsory subject.

The pre-professional/pre-medical examination with Physics Chemistry and Biology, after passing either the higher secondary school examination or the pre-University or an equivalent examination. About College:

The origin of the dispensary which the Cuttack general hospital replaced, is lost in antiquity. It is believed to have ex56isted since the days of Indian Rule in Orissa and was established primarily for the benefit of the pilgrims proceedings to Puri (otherwise called Jagannath). It was originally maintained from the proceeds of an endowment made by Marahatta Government.

In 1874 it was raised to the status of a General Hospital, accommodation being provided for the treatment of sick European and European servants, of Government at Cuttack. The institution was principally supported by the ‘Annachhatra Find’ and annual assignment made by the British Government. In 1925 the hospital was provincialised and since then it has been maintained by the provincial Government.

The establishment of the present hospital was almost synchronous with the foundation of the Orissa Medical School during the Lieutenant Governorship of Sir Richard Temple and the commissionership of Mr. T.E. Ravenshaw, Since then the hospital is supplying clinical materials for the practical training of the medical students. The hospital is now named as the

“Sriram Chandra Bhanja Medical College Hospital, Cuttack vide G.O. No. 9620 L.S.G. dateded 20.10.49.

Accommodation: 
With the gradual popularity of the Institution and growing needs of the people, the bed strength of the hospital was raised from time to time. The bed strength of the hospital was 215 in 1933, 227 in 1938, 246 in 1946, 335 in 1951, 535 in 1952, 747 in 1959, 756 in 1962, 892 in 1964, 954 in 1965, 1040 in 1966 and 1080 since May’68 and now 1107 (with 12 beds under post partum of Accidental service unit of 10 beds.

BLDE University is amongst the reputed universities in Karnataka providing education in various medical courses. After the BLDE UGET 2016 has been conducted a selection panel comes up with a merit list based on the marks secured by the candidates in BLDE UGET 2016, the merit list is published on the official website of the conducting authority and candidates are called upon for seat allocation and counseling.

Exam Pattern:

BLDE UGET 2016 will be a 3 hour exam consisting of 180 questions with each question carrying 1 mark. 60 questions each will be asked from Physics, Chemistry and Biology There will be no Negative marking for a wrong response.

Exam Syllabus:

BLDE UGET 2016 will be based on the standard 1st and 2nd PUC syllabus for Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.

The PGIMER owes its inception to the vision of late Sardar Partap Singh Kairon, the then Chief Minister of Punjab and the distinguished medical educationists of the then combined state of Punjab, supported by the first Prime Minister of India Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru who considered the institutions of scientific knowledge as temples of learning and the places of pilgrimage. About College:

Lady Hardinge Medical College (LHMC), New Delhi was established in 1914. The college and hospital was formally opened by Lord Hardinge the then viceroy of India on in 1916. Since 1950, the college has been affiliated to University of Delhi. In view of considerable demand for post-graduate students, post-graduate courses were started in 1954 in affiliation with Punjab University and later on with University of Delhi in 1956.
